Methods: Patients with cerebral infarction were randomly allocated into a group of electroacupuncture nerve trunk and a group of routine electroacupuncture in ratio of 2:1, which were treated with electroacupuncture at the nerve trunk or routine acupoints, respectively, once a day, for 14 d. Results: Electroacupuncture at nerve trunk had better effects than at routine acupoints. The short-term improvement of electroencephalogram had significant differences (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Electroacupuncture at the nerve trunk could improve the neurologic impairment and brain function, and it has a better result than routine electroacupuncture.展开更多

Methods: A total of 154 cases with post-stroke insomnia were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group by the random digital table, 77 cases in each group. The control group was treated by auricular acupoint sticking, while the observation group was treated by auricular acupoint sticking plus music therapy, to compare the clinical effects at the end of the treatment and three months after the treatment between the two groups. Results: At the end of treatment, the total effective rate was 98.7% in the observation group, remarkably higher than 89.6% in the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P〈0.05). Three months after the end of the treatment, the total effective rate was 90.9% in the observation group, remarkably higher than 80.5% in the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Auricular acupoint sticking plus music therapy was affirmative in the clinical effects for post-stroke insomnia, providing a new idea to design a best nursing and rehabilitative plan for the patients with post-stroke insomnia.展开更多

Methods: Seventy-two cases with pseudobulbar palsy after cerebral infarction were randomly allocated into an observation group and a control group, 36 cases in each group. The treatment neurological therapies, once a day, with one day rest group was treated with acupuncture based upon routine after continuous treatment for six days, and therapeutic effects were assessed after six courses of the treatments. The control group was treated with routine neurological therapies, with the therapeutic effects observed after the treatment for 42 d. Results: The total effective rate was 80.6% in the observation group and 58.3% in the control group, with statistical significance in comparison of difference between the two groups (P〈0.05), and with statistical significance in comparison of the score of deglutition disorder between the observation group and control group (P〈0.01). Conclusion: Nape acupuncture can obviously improve the clinical symptoms and signs for the patients with pseudobulbar palsy, with affirmative therapeutic effects, and is worthy of popularization.展开更多

Methods: Eighty patients with thalamic pain syndrome were randomly allocated into two groups, with 40 cases in the treatment group receiving combined scalp and body acupuncture treatment and 40 cases in the control group receiving single body acupuncture treatment. The intervention was given for 28 d in total, and the effects were evaluated after 14-day and 28-day treatments. Results: The inner-group comparison of McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) showed significant differences after the treatment d 14 in both of the two groups (P〈0.05), and after the treatment d 28, the differences were even more significant (P〈0.01). After 28-day treatment, compared with pre-treatment, the Transcranial Doppler (TCD) test detected significant changes in the two groups (P〈0.05). The total effective rate was 72.5% in the treatment group versus 47.5% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.05). The 3-month follow-up study found the relapse rate was 0 in the treatment group and 15.8% in the control group, and the difference was significant (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture is effective in treating thalamic pain syndrome and combined scalp and body acupuncture can achieve even better results.展开更多

Methods: A total of 60 eligible cases were randomly allocated into an observation group and a control group, 30 in each group. Based on routine medication, cases in the control group were treated with conventional needling manipulation, whereas cases in the observation group were treated with balancing yin-yang manipulation. After the courses of treatment were completed, the therapeutic efficacies were evaluated using modified Ashworth scale and clinical spasticity index(CSI), coupled with the integrated electromyography(IEMG) and root mean square(RMS) value of biceps in passive flexion of the elbow joint during isokinetic testing recorded with the surface EMG. Results: The total effective rate in the observation group was 86.7%, versus 53.3% in the control group, showing a statistical significance(P < 0.05). After treatment, there was between-group statistical significance in severity of elbow spasticity(P<0.05); there were intragroup(P<0.01, P<0.05) and inter-group(P<0.05) statistical significances in CSI index; and there were intra-group(P<0.01, P<0.05) and inter-group(P<0.01, P<0.05) statistical significances in IEMG and RMS values. Conclusion: Balancing yin-yang and conventional needling manipulations can both improve upper limb spasm and reduce CSI as well as IEMG and RMS values in stroke patients; however, balancing yin-yang manipulation is better than conventional manipulation in clinical effect.展开更多
