In rice (Oryza sativa L.) roots two glutamine synthetase (GS) isozymes, GSra and GSrb, were identified recently in the author's experiments, but the homology of both GSra and GSrb as well as their localization in the rice roots are unclear. In the present study, the purified GSra and GSrb from rice roots were used to immunize rabbits to obtain the respective antibodies. The immunodiffusion and immunoblotting experiments showed that the antibody against GSra or GSrb was specific for GS and its isozymes. The immunoprecipitation test indicated that the antibody of GSra or GSrb not only recognized its respective antigen, but also well recognized each other's antigen. GSra or GSrb antibody recognized also better cytosolic GS1 of rice leaves, but the recognization for chloroplast GS2 from rice or spinach (Spinacia oleracea Mill.) leaves was weaker. Our results indicate that GSra and GSrb from rice roots are quite similar in antigenicity and are extremely similar proteins and that both GSra and GSrb may also be a form of cytosolic GS just as the cytosolic GS1 of rice leaves. 展开更多

In this article, a multiobjective optimization strategy for an industrial naphtha continuous catalytic reform-ing process that aims to obtain aromatic products is proposed. The process model is based on a 20-lumped kinetics re-action network and has been proved to be quite effective in terms of industrial application. The primary objectives in-clude maximization of yield of the aromatics and minimization of the yield of heavy aromatics. Four reactor inlet tem-peratures, reaction pressure, and hydrogen-to-oil molar ratio are selected as the decision variables. A genetic algorithm, which is proposed by the authors and named as the neighborhood and archived genetic algorithm (NAGA), is applied to solve this multiobjective optimization problem. The relations between each decision variable and the two objectives are also proposed and used for choosing a suitable solution from the obtained Pareto set. 展开更多

In this paper, we review the current state- of-the-art techniques used for understanding the inner workings of the brain at a systems level. The neural activity that governs our everyday lives involves an intricate coordination of many processes that can be attributed to a variety of brain regions. On the surface, many of these functions can appear to be controlled by specific anatomical structures; however, in reality, numerous dynamic networks within the brain contribute to its function through an interconnected web of neuronal and synaptic pathways. The brain, in its healthy or pathological state, can therefore be best understood by taking a systems-level approach. While numerous neuroengineering technologies exist, we focus here on three major thrusts in the field of systems neuroengineering: neuroimaging, neural interfacing, and neuromodulation. Neuroimaging enables us to delineate the structural and functional organization of the brain, which is key in understanding how the neural system functions in both normal and disease states. Based on such knowledge, devices can be used either to communicate with the neural system, as in neural interface systems, or to modulate brain activity, as in neuromodulation systems. The consideration of these three fields is key to the development and application of neuro-devices. Feedback-based neuro-devices require the ability to sense neural activity (via a neuroimaging modality) through a neural interface (invasive or noninvasive) and ultimately to select a set of stimulation parameters in order to alter neural function via a neuromodulation modality. Systems neuroengineering refers to the use of engineering tools and technologies to image, decode, and modulate the brain in order to comprehend its functions and to repair its dysfunction. Interactions between these fields will help to shape the future of systems neuroengineering--to develop neurotechniques for enhancing the understanding of whole- brain function and dysfunction, and the management of neurological and mental disorders. 展开更多

Data available to ventilation technicians and engineers is typically limited to the quantity of air moving through any given heading. Because computer-aided modelling, simulation, and ventilation system design tools have improved, it is now important to ensure that developed models have the most accurate information possible. This paper presents a new technique for estimating underground drift friction factors that works by processing 3 D point cloud data obtained by using a mobile Li DAR. Presented are field results that compare the proposed approach with previously published algorithms, as well as with manually acquired measurements. 展开更多

Ethylene production by the thermal cracking of naphtha is an energy-intensive process (up to 40 GJ heat per tonne ethylene), leading to significant formation of coke and nitrogen oxide (NOx), along with 1,8- 2 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission per kilogram of ethylene produced, We propose an alternative pro- cess for the redox oxy-cracking (ROC) of naphtha, In this two-step process, hydrogen (H2) from naphtha cracking is selectively comhusted by a redox catalyst with its lattice oxygen first, The redox catalyst is subsequently re-oxidized by air and releases heat, which is used to satisfy the heat requirement for the cracking reactions, This intensified process reduces parasitic energy consumption and CO2 and NOx emissions, Moreover, the formation of ethylene and propylene can he enhanced due to the selective com-bustion of H2, In this study, the ROC process is simulated with ASPEN Plus^R based on experimental data from recently developed redox catalysts, Compared with traditional naphtha cracking, the ROC process can provide up to 52% reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions, The upstream section of the process consumes approximately 67% less energy while producing 28% more ethylene and propylene for every kilogram of naphtha feedstock, 展开更多

The development history and major technological innovations of the ultra-low pressure naphtha reforming technology with continuous catalyst regeneration in China were introduced.This technology had been adopted by the 1.0 Mt/a CCR unit at the Guangzhou Company.The appropriate catalyst was selected to meet the demand of the unit capacity,the feedstock,and the product slate.The design parameters,including the reaction pressure,the octane number of C5+liquid product,the reaction temperature,the space velocity,the hydrogen/oil molar ratio,and the catalyst circulating rate,were chosen based on the study of process conditions and parameters.The commercial test results showed that the research octane number of C5+product reached 104 when the capacity of the CCR unit was 100%and 115%of the design value.The other technical targets attained or exceeded the expected value. 展开更多

By means of molecular scale management, the technology of separating normal paraffins from naphtha through adsorption using 5A molecular sieves was studied with the purpose of optimizing the utilization of naphtha. The raw materials used in steam cracking and catalytic reforming processes could be allocated properly. During the adsorption process, the separation efficiency of the normal paraffins was above 99.9% with the purity of normal paraffins in the desorption oil exceeding 98.2%. With the use of the desorption oil as the feedstock of steam cracking, the ethylene yield increased from 29.7%-35.0% to 41.4%- 49.2% compared to that of the naphtha in the existing plant under similar operation conditions. The potential aromatic content of the raffinate oil rose from 30.6% to 43.5% compared to that in naphtha. The research octane number of the raffinate oil reached more than 85 with an increase of 20 units compared to that of naphtha, so the raffinate oil is more suitable for use as a blending component for high-octane clean gasoline. 展开更多

The authors also show the efficiency, effectiveness of students' grasping the engineering drawing concepts in depth. The authors have conducted a survey on students and their instructors for teaching the course. Whether the course should be taught with manual handling and then computerized or starting with computer aid and finishing the content of the course, the authors shall also go in detail of syllabus how the drawing rooms and aid tools will be. This part of study shall look into the ergonomics, safety and conditions of classrooms. Responses of 300 students will be shared in this presentation. Statistical analysis will detect the effects of different factors involved in the questionnaire. 展开更多

A first principles-based dynamic model for a continuous catalyst regeneration (CCR) platforming process, the UOP commercial naphtha catalytic reforming process, is developed in this paper. The lumping details of the naphtha feed and reaction scheme of the reaction model are given. The process model is composed of the reforming reaction model with catalyst deactivation, the furnace model and the separator model, which is capable of capturing the major dynamics that occurs in this process system. Dynamic simulations are performed based on Gear numerical algorithm and method of lines (MOL), a numerical technique dealing with partial differential equations (PDEs). The results of simulation are also presented. Dynamic responses caused by disturbances in the process system can be correctly predicted through simulations. 展开更多

The stronglink with muhi-try function based on MEMS technology and the PC startup in authentication system have been designed and fabricated. The generation principle and structure of UQS code are introduced, which consists of two groups of metal counter-meshing gears, two pawl/ratchet mechanisms, two driving micromotors and two resetting micromotors. The energy-coupling element is a photoelectric sensor with a circular and notched plate. It is fabricated using the UV-LiGA process and precision mechanical engineering. The PC startup authentication system is controlled by BIOS program, which is written into the chip according with special format. The program in BIOS output signals controls the running of stronglink to finish the process of authentication. The device can run more than 10000 times before a stop. The driving voltage is 12 V, and the normal decoding time is 3 s. 展开更多

The commercial testresults indicate that the olefin content of catalyti-cally cracked gasoline can be significantlyreduced to less than 20 v%, while sulfur content reduced by 15%-25% and RON increased by 0.5―2units in a RFCC unit. Objective: To investigate the effect of acupuncture plus mild hypothermia on neurological function impairment score, cerebral infarct size and apoptosis-related factors in cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury(CIRI) rats. Methods: Sixty healthy male Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were routinely reared for 1 week. Ten rats were randomly selected as the sham operation group and 10 rats as the blank control group, while the remaining 40 rats were subjected to preparing the middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) model by modified filament occlusion method. The 40 MCAO rats were further randomly divided into a model group, an acupuncture group, a mild hypothermia group and an acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group, with 10 rats in each group. Rats in the sham operation group, the blank control group and the model group did not accept treatment except binding; rats in the acupuncture group received acupuncture treatment; rats in the mild hypothermia group received mild hypothermia treatment; rats in the acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group received acupuncture and mild hypothermia treatment. 72 h after the treatment, neurological function impairment score was performed; the infarct area ratio was determined by 2,3,5-tripheyl tetrazolium chloride(TTC) staining; apoptosis of brain cells was observed by TUNEL method; the expressions of Bcl-2, Bax and Caspase-3 were detected by immunohistochemistry.Results: Compared with the blank control group and the sham operation group, the neurological function impairment score, cerebral infarct area ratio, apoptosis, and the expressions of Bax and Caspase-3 in the model group were significantly increased, while the expression of Bcl-2 was significantly decreased, and there were significant between-group differences(all P〈0.05). After the treatment, there were statistically significant differences among the treatment groups in the neurological function impairment score, cerebral infarct area ratio and apoptosis in the ischemic side of rats, as well as the expressions of Bcl-2, Bax and Caspase-3(all P〈0.05), and from the figures, tables and statistical analysis, it was found that a better tendency in the acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group than the acupuncture group or mild hypothermia group. Conclusion: Acupuncture plus mild hypothermia can protect the brain cells by improving neurological function impairment, decreasing cerebral infarct area ratio, reducing the number of apoptotic cells in the ischemic area and regulating the expressions of apoptosis related proteins to inhibit apoptosis. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the protective mechanism of acupuncture plus mild hypothermia for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury(CIRI)by observing the effects of acupuncture plus mild hypothermia on miRNA-204 and its target gene expressions in CIRI rat brain tissues.Methods:Sixty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a blank control group,a sham operation group,a model group,an acupuncture group,a mild hypothermia group and an acup un cture plus mild hypothermia group accordi ng to the random nu mbertable method(n=10).Except for the blank c on trol group an dthe sham operati on group,rats in the other 4 groups received CIRI modeling.After the model was successfully established,rats in the blank control group were bred routinely for 72 h without any interventions;rats in the sham operation group and the model group were bred routinely for 72 h,and only received bin ding without other interve ntions after surgery;rats in the acup un cture group were bred routinely for 72 h,and received acupuncture at Dazhui(GV 14),Baihui(GV 20)and Shuigou(GV 26)after binding;rats in the mild hypothermia group were bred routinely for 72 h,and received mild hypothermia intervention for 72 h after binding;rats in the acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group were bred routinely for 72 h,followed by receiving acupuncture as in the acup uncture group and mild hypothermia therapy as in the mild hypothermia group after bin ding.The n eurological impairme nt score,cerebral infarcti on area ratio,the expressions of miRNA-204 and its target genes in eluding Map3k8,Ntrk2 and Ppp3rl in the ischemic hippocampus of each group were observed after 72 h of intervention.Results:Before intervention,compared with the bgnk control group and the sham operation group,the neurological impairment scores and the infarction area ratios of the modelled rats were statistically significa ntly increased(all P<Q.Ql)f indicating that the model was successful.After intervention,compared with the model group,the neurological impairment scores of the three in tervention groups were sign ifica ntly reduced(all P<0.01);compared with the acupuncture group and the mild hypothermia group,the infarction area ratio in the acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group was signtiicantly reduced(both P<0.01);compared with the model group,the three intervention groups showed significant inhibition of miRNA-204 expression in brain tissues(all P<0.05),which was most significant in the acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group(P<0.01);compared with the acupuncture group and the mild hypothermia group,the Map3k8 expression in the acupuncture plus mild hypothermia group was significantly increased(both P<0.01),but there were no sign ificant d iff ere nces in Ntrk2 and Ppp3rl expressions between groups(all P>0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture,mild hypothermia,and acupuncture plus mild hypothermia reduced the neurological impairment score and the cerebral infarction area in CIRI rats,while acupuncture plus mild hypothermia showed the most significant effect.In regulating miRNA-204 target gene expressions,acupuncture plus mild hypothermia showed the same effect on Ntrk2 and Ppp3rl expressions,while better effect on Map3k8 expression compared with either acupuncture or hypothermia. 展开更多
