The ben- tonite is composed of dioctahedral montmorillonite with predominant quantity, certain amounts of quartz, feldspar and illite and minor amounts of kaolinite, gypsum, etc. The raw bentonite has a CEC of 0.6497 meq·g-1 and allows to be characterized as typical sodium bentonite. In order to bleach cottonseed oil, optimum conditions for sulfuric acid activation of the raw bentonites were investigated, which were obtained by selecting various acid strength, at 96—98℃ and activating for 4h with 1︰2 solid-liquid ratio. The acid activation bentonites were suitable for decol- orization of cottonseed oil through removing carotene and chlorophyll. The bleaching capabilities of different pig- ments with activated bentonite with treatment of 25% sulfuric acid were 70.3%, 73.1%, 83.2%, 81.8% and 88.9%, respectively. Bleaching with acid activated bentonite gave oils lower peroxide values and acid values.展开更多

The xanthan-based precursor (Xan-MA) was prepared by substituting the hydroxyl groups in Xan by MA. This Xan-MA precursor was then polymerized with a known temperature sensitive precursor (N-isopropylacrylamide, NIPAAm) to form hybrid hydrogels with a series range of composition ratio of Xan-MA to NIPAAm precursors. These smart hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for structural determination, differential scanning calorimertry for thermal property. And maximum swelling ratio, swelling kinetics and temperature response kinetics were studied. The data obtained clearly show that these smart hydrogels are responsive to the external changes of temperature as well as pH value. The magnitudes of smart and hydrogel properties of these hybrid hydrogels depend on the feed composition ratio of the two precursors. With the increase of the content of Xan-MA the maximum swelling ratio, reswelling ratio and thermo-sensitivities increase, and the feed composition ratio of Xan-MA/NIPAAm increases the maximum swelling ratio augment from 13.88 to 23.21. From XMN0, XMN1, XMN3 to XMN5, the lower critical solution temperatures (LCSTs) are 33.02, 36.15, 40.28 and 41.92 ℃, respectively. By changing the composition ratio of these two precursors, the LCST of the hybrid hydrogels could also be adjusted to be or near the body temperature for the potential applications in bioengineering and biotechnology fields.展开更多

Glass structure was measured by infrared absorption spectrum. Glass density (/9) was measured by the Archimedes method. Coefficients of thermal expansion (a) and characterization temperature were obtained by a dilatometer. Water durability of each glass was estimated from the dissolution rate (DR)in water at 90 ℃ for 24 h. With increasing Zn/P ratio, water durability of zinc-iron phosphate glasses increases dramatically without large increase in the characterization temperature. (80-x)ZnO-20Fe2O3-xP2O5 glasses with 0.3≤Zn/P≤0.5 are suit for low-to-mid temperature sealing application for substrates with a〈8.0× 10^-6℃^-1.展开更多

That could have serious negative implications for injection of CO2 into deep coal seams. We have examined the experimental design issues and procedures used in the previously published studies, and experimentally investigated the physical behavior of a similar coal in the presence of COa as a function of pressure and temperature, using the same high-pressure micro-dilatometer refurbished and carefully calibrated for this purpose. No notable reduction in coal softening temperature was observed in this study.展开更多
