However, the interfacial bonding strength of foamcored sandwich materials is weakened at elevated temperatures. In practice, the effect of high temperature cannot be ignored, because the composites and foams are sensitive to the change of temperature in the environment. In this study,a series of single-leg bending beams were tested at different temperatures to evaluate the influences of high temperatures on Mode Ⅰ/Ⅱ mixed interfacial fracture of foam core sandwich materials. The temperature was from29 ℃ to 90 ℃,covered the glass transition temperature of composites and foam core, respectively. The Mode Ⅰ/Ⅱ mixed interfacial crack prorogation and its corresponding interfacial strain energy release rate were summarized.展开更多

The bending stiffness EI varies continuously along the length of the beam. Dynamic equation yields differential equation with variable co- efficients based on the model of the Euler-Bernoulli beam. Then differential equation with variable coefficients becomes that with constant coefficients by variable substitution. At last, the study obtains the solution of dy- namic equation. The cantilever beam is an object for analysis. When the flexural rigidity at free end is a constant and that at clamped end is varied, the dynamic characteristics are analyzed under several cases. The results dem- onstrate that the natural angular frequency reduces as the fiexural rigidity reduces. When the rigidity of clamped end is higher than that of free end, low-level mode contributes the larger displacement response to the total re- sponse. On the contrary, the contribution of low-level mode is lesser than that of hi^h-level mode.展开更多

This paper investigates the bending stresses of such beams. Relationships between the maximum compressive stress and the degree of taper were investigated. An analytical model is presented to determine the location of the maximum stress when subjected to a uniformly distributed load or a point load at the free end and was validated using finite element analysis and physical tests. It was found that the maximum stress always occurs at the support when subjected to a uniformly distributed load. When subjected to a point load at the free end and the degree of taper is up to seven, it was found that Miller's equation could be used to determine the location of the maximum stress. However, it is shown that when the degree of taper is greater than seven, Miller's equation does not accurately predict the location and the analytical model should be used. It was also found that the location of the maximum stress was solely dependent on the degree of taper, while a geometric ratio, fl was required to determine the magnitude of the maximum stress. A simple method that predicts the magnitude of the maximum stress is proposed. The average error in the prediction of the magnitude of the maximum stress is found to be less than 1.0%.展开更多
