The performances of repaired image depend on the local information in the repaired area and the consistency between the repair directions with structural content.Image repair algorithm with texture information perform...The performances of repaired image depend on the local information in the repaired area and the consistency between the repair directions with structural content.Image repair algorithm with texture information performs well in repairing seriously damaged images,but it has bad performances when the images have the abundant structure information.The dual optimization image repair algorithm based on the linear structure and the optimal texture is proposed.The algorithm uses the double-constraint sparse model to reconstruct the missed information in large area in order to improve the clarity of repaired images.After adopting the preference of Criminisi priority,the image repair algorithm of self-similarity characteristics is proposed to improve the fault and fuzzy distortion phenomena in the repaired image.The results show that the proposed algorithm has more clarity in the image texture and structure and better effectiveness,and the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the repaired images by proposed algorithm is superior to that by other algorithms.展开更多

The influence of a set of data-segment-related parameters on feature extraction and classification in...In electroencephalogram (EEG) modeling techniques, data segment selection is the first and still an important step. The influence of a set of data-segment-related parameters on feature extraction and classification in an EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI) was studied. An auto search algorithm was developed to study four datasegment-related parameters in each trial of 12 subjects’ EEG. The length of data segment (LDS), the start position of data (SPD) segment, AR order, and number of trials (NT) were used to build the model. The study showed that, compared with the classification ratio (CR) without parameter selection, the CR was increased by 20% to 30% with proper selection of these data-segment-related parameters, and the optimum parameter values were subject-dependent. This suggests that the data-segment-related parameters should be individualized when building models for BCI.展开更多
In our previous study, five homologous feeder cell lines, Monkey ear skin fibroblasts (MESFs), clonally derived fibroblasts from the MESFs (CMESFs), monkey oviductal fibroblasts (MOFs), monkey follicular granulo...In our previous study, five homologous feeder cell lines, Monkey ear skin fibroblasts (MESFs), clonally derived fibroblasts from the MESFs (CMESFs), monkey oviductal fibroblasts (MOFs), monkey follicular granulosa fibroblast-like (MFGs) cells, monkey follicular granulosa epithelium-like (MFGEs) cells, were developed for the maintenance of rhesus embryonic stem cells (rESCs). We found that MESFs, CMESFs, MOFs and MFGs, but not MFGEs, support the growth of rhesus embryonic stem cells. Moreover, we detected some genes that are upregulated in supportive feeder cell lines by semi-quantitative PCR. In the present study, we applied the GeneChip Rhesus Macaque Genome Array of Affymetrix Corporation to study the expression profiles of these five feeder cell lines, in purpose to find out which cytokines and signaling pathways were important in maintaining the rESCs, mRNAs of eight genes, including GREM2, bFGF, KITLG, DKK3, GREM1, AREG, SERPINF1 and LTBP1, were found to be upregulated in supportive feeder cell lines, but not in MFGE. The results indicate that many signaling pathways may play redundant roles in supporting the undifferentiated growth and maintenance of pluripotency in rESCs.展开更多
Objectives:Mothers with substance use disorder(SUD)experience a range of emotions such as feeling ostracized,diminished,and distressed while watching their baby experience withdrawal from substances.Being fully presen...Objectives:Mothers with substance use disorder(SUD)experience a range of emotions such as feeling ostracized,diminished,and distressed while watching their baby experience withdrawal from substances.Being fully present in the now moment is to trust self to do what is best by moving beyond perceived boundaries to care for self and baby.The process of concept building arose from nursing practice encounters in a special care nursery(SCN)for babies who experienced withdrawal from substances.Method:Liehr and Smith’s 10-phase concept building approach was used to guide the development of this concept.Concept building began with a practice story.The emerging concept was named,core qualities identified,and supported through a literature review.The middle range theory of uncertainty in illness was chosen to serve as theoretical support for the concept.A model was created to provide clarity on the relationships within the concept.Result:A mini-saga was gathered from a mother in the SCN whose newborn had experienced withdrawal from substances.The minisaga follows:Due to the baby’s discomfort and judging eyes of the staff,she was unable to mother her baby.As the baby recovered,she asked for help,comforted her baby,and gained confidence to move beyond perceived boundaries to become the mother she envisioned.Overcoming perceived boundaries to attend to self and baby is trusting oneself to do what is best in spite of feeling ostracized,diminished,and distressed while watching baby withdraw from substances.Conclusion:This concept provides the perspective of mothers with SUD through intermodernism from experiences in nursing practice.The Uncertainty in Illness theory further allows practitioners to gain an understanding of the role uncertainty plays in this unique situation.展开更多

It locates the information bits in the received data stream at receivers. To realize frame detection in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and frequency offset, a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector is proposed through exploitation of cyclic autocorrelation feature implied in the preamble. The frame detection can be achieved prior to bit timing recovery. The threshold setting is independent of the signal level and noise level by utilizing CFAR method. Mathematical expressions is derived in AWGN channel by considering the probability of false alarm and probability of detection, separately. Given the probability of false alarm, the mathematical relationship between the frame detection performance and EJNo of received signals is established. SCADA system failure may lead to disastrous consequences since the health a...Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is used broadly to portray control and management solutions in a wide range of industries. SCADA system failure may lead to disastrous consequences since the health and the safety of the public as the economic viability of the community it serves depends on it. After its introduction in DPDC over a decade ago, the SCADA system hardly had any performance upgradation. Currently, the microwave link in SCADA Communication is observing problems that are rendering the entire structure obsolete. This paper revises the possibility to implement a new communication technology and proposes Free Space Optical (FSO) communication to enhance SCADA system reliability. FSO refers to the transmission of modulated visible or infrared (IR) beams through the air to obtain optical communication. Like optical fiber, FSO also uses lasers to transmit data, but instead of enclosing the data stream in a glass fiber, the data is transmitted through the air. It is a secure, cost-effective alternative to other wireless connectivity options.展开更多

The paper reiterates that the law was passed to enable the public to access certain government information, in order to ensure transparency and accountability. The FOI Act aims to make public records and information more freely available and to protect public records and information, in accordance with the public interest and protection of personal privacy. It enables citizens to hold the government accountable in the event of the misappropriation of public funds or failure to deliver public services. It also seeks to protect serving public officers against any adverse consequences from the unauthorized disclosure of certain kinds of official information, and to establish procedures for the achievement of these purposes. The Act further regulates conflicts between its provisions and those of other legislations. The paper contends that Freedom of Information is a fundamental indicator of economic development and progress, civic engagement and a properly functional democracy in every economy, describing it as a promising start in ensuring good governance and rule of law in Nigeria. The paper stresses the need for vigorous implementation of the FOI Act if the country is to make any significant breakthrough in the enthronement of good governance, transparency and accountability, adding that a strengthened FOI regime will enhance citizens' demand for accountability and check corruption in Nigeria.展开更多

The problem of blind adaptive equalization of underwater single-input multiple-output (SIMO) acoustic channels was analyzed by using the linear prediction method.Minimum mean square error (MMSE) blind equalizers with ...The problem of blind adaptive equalization of underwater single-input multiple-output (SIMO) acoustic channels was analyzed by using the linear prediction method.Minimum mean square error (MMSE) blind equalizers with arbitrary delay were described on a basis of channel identification.Two methods for calculating linear MMSE equalizers were proposed.One was based on full channel identification and realized using RLS adaptive algorithms,and the other was based on the zero-delay MMSE equalizer and realized using LMS and RLS adaptive algorithms,respectively.Performance of the three proposed algorithms and comparison with two existing zero-forcing (ZF) equalization algorithms were investigated by simulations utilizing two underwater acoustic channels.The results show that the proposed algorithms are robust enough to channel order mismatch.They have almost the same performance as the corresponding ZF algorithms under a high signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio and better performance under a low SNR.展开更多

It extended the photoelectron energy range up to 15,000 eV and opened the possibility to study much thicker films...HAXPES (hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) is a powerful emerging instrument in surface analysis. It extended the photoelectron energy range up to 15,000 eV and opened the possibility to study much thicker films, buried layers and bulk electronic properties. In order to study these features, data for the electron IMFP (inelastic mean free path) at these energies is needed. To date, only calculated IMFP are available at energies above 5,000 eV and therefore experimental validation of these calculations are essential. In this paper, a new approach for using the HAXPES spectra is presented. This approach, treats the attenuated part of the electron spectrum as a whole to calculating the average electron energy loss. This average electron energy loss is the result of inelastic collisions in the material and hence, carry with it information about the electron transport poses. Carbon layers with thicknesses between 20 and 75 nanometer deposited over copper substrate were used to test this approach at the Spanish beam-line (Spline) in the ESRF (European synchrotron radiation facility). The measured results showed good agreement with the predictions of the multiple inelastic scattering theory. In addition, an algorithm for the experimental evaluation of electron IMFP, using the measured energy loss, is proposed.展开更多

We analyze the transmission pr...Using an equation of motion technique, we investigate the spin-polarized transport through a quantum dot coupled to ferromagnetic leads and a mesoseopie ring by the Anderson Hamiltonian. We analyze the transmission probability of this system in both the equilibrium and nonequilibrium cases, and our results reveal that the transport properties show some noticeable characteristics depending upon the spin-polarized strength p, the magnetic flux Ф and the number of lattice sites NR in the mesoseopic ring. These effects might have some potential applications in spintronics.展开更多
