Known test item calibration method uses item parameter estimation with the statistical data, collected during examinees prior testing. Disadvantage of the mentioned item calibration method is the item exposure; when test items become familiar to the examinees. To reduce the item exposure, automatic item generation method is used, where item models are being constructed based on already calibrated test items without losing already estimated item parameters. A technic of item model extraction method from the already calibrated and therefore exposed test items described, which can be used by the test item development specialists to integrate automatic item generation principles with the existing testing applications.展开更多

A signaling equilibrium algorithm was proposed to enhance the effectiveness of the Infomax ICA decomposition. After the mixed signal was decomposed by Infomax ICA, the independent component(IC) used in auditory P300 reconstruction was automatically chosen by using the standard deviation of the fixed temporal pattern. And the result of auditory P300 was reconstructed using the selected ICs. The experimental results show that the auditory P300 can be detected automatically within five trials. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the standard signal and the signal detected using the proposed method is significantly greater than that between the standard signal and the signal detected using the average method within five trials. The wave pattern result obtained using the proposed algorithm is better and more similar to the standard signal than that obtained by the average method for the same number of trials. Therefore, the proposed method can automatically detect the effective auditory P300 within several trials.展开更多

Periodical inspections are based on classification society's requirements and include both visual surveys and non-destructive test interventions, to look for structural damage, pitting, corrosion, thickness measurement, usually documented by measurements or images. Different approaches of inspection can be proposed for underwater and for dry areas, using unmanned vehicles or service robots able to improve traditional inspection methods. Several excellent proposals are today available: nevertheless, reasons of costs, operation complexity and impossibility to cover all types of inspection with a unique autonomous unit limit and conditions the applicability of automatic inspection systems. The paper is the first of a series describing the main results of a wide research activity carried out at DREAMS Lab (Laboratory of Drives and Experimental Automation for Marine Systems) of the University of Genoa. The studies are oriented to the realization of a kit of low cost and unsophisticated self-moving units, devoted to support some recursive inspections in dry areas of ships and on offshore plants as bulkheads, holds, double bottoms and ducts. The paper describes the design and prototyping of a pneumatronic unit oriented to inspection and maintenance of ship holds. Conceived to realize a portable and user-friendly tool which could take part of an "inspection kit" for the use of inspectors, able to simplify and speed up the inspection visits with and automatic generation of survey reports.展开更多

Using the freely available the OrbFit software Package, this paper followed its orbit forward in the searching for close approaches with the Earth and possible impacts up to year 2116. With the different A2 non-gravitational parameter in the motion of the asteroid (99942) Apophis, this paper computed possible impact solutions using the JPL DE405 (Jet Propulsion Laboratory Development Ephemeris) and 25 additional massive perturbed asteroids. Additionally, this paper used weighing and selection methods adopted in the OrbFit software as prepared by the NEODyS (Near Earth Objects--Dynamical Side) Team. Moreover, this paper used method of computing the orbit of Apophis taking into account star catalog debiasing and an error model with assumed astrometric errors RMS (root mean square), deduced from the observational material of the given observatories. JPL's Sentry and NEODyS's CLOMMON2, two automatic monitoring systems routinely scanning for possible impacts in the next hundred years. Only for several dangerous asteroids presented results are computed with the non-gravitational parameters. This paper detected possible impacts of the asteroid (99942) Apophis only with the non-gravitational parameter, A2 〉 0. It was appeared that impacts in 2068, 2087, 2105 and in 2111 were possible only when Apophis rotated in prograde direction.展开更多
