Deciding whether manufacturing firms share product links on owned social media considering fan effects

An optimization model is proposed to examine the choice of sharing or not sharing the product link for manufacturing firms with owned social media by considering the role of fan effects.The equilibrium marketing effort level and firm profit in both cases are compared.The results show that the firm chooses to share(not share)the product link when the social platform commission rate is low(high).Moreover,the likelihood of sharing the product link increases as the fan effect weakens and the perceived conversion cost strengthens.Interestingly,the marketing effort level increases with the product price,but firm profit does not always follow.Additionally,as the fan effect and fan count grow,so does the firm s profit.Furthermore,when the firm shares the product link,the level of marketing effort and firm profit decrease with the commission rate.Conversely,when the firm does not share the product link,those aforementioned factors increase as the perceived conversion cost declines.These results thus suggest that firms should enhance the influence of owned social media to attract more high-quality fans,and social platforms should optimize the product link functionality.

Resource Allocation and User Association for HTTP Adaptive Streaming in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks with Small Cells

Video streaming,especially hypertext transfer protocol based(HTTP) adaptive streaming(HAS) of video,has been expected to be a dominant application over mobile networks in the near future,which brings huge challenge for the mobile networks.Although some works have been done for video streaming delivery in heterogeneous cellular networks,most of them focus on the video streaming scheduling or the caching strategy design.The problem of joint user association and rate allocation to maximize the system utility while satisfying the requirement of the quality of experience of users is largely ignored.In this paper,the problem of joint user association and rate allocation for HTTP adaptive streaming in heterogeneous cellular networks is studied,we model the optimization problem as a mixed integer programming problem.And to reduce the computational complexity,an optimal rate allocation using the Lagrangian dual method under the assumption of knowing user association for BSs is first solved.Then we use the many-to-one matching model to analyze the user association problem,and the joint user association and rate allocation based on the distributed greedy matching algorithm is proposed.Finally,extensive simulation results are illustrated to demonstrate the performance of the proposed scheme.

Research on College English Teaching Model Based on Multimedia and Network

Based on multimedia and network environment, college English teaching mode can effectively improve the teaching environment of traditional English teaching and students, and expand the capacity of English classroom information, and enrich the students’ English culture background. Therefore, as a teacher, we should first of all make efforts to learn new knowledge and teaching methods to improve our English professional quality. Strengthening the multimedia, network technology and educational psychology research, and put themselves in the teaching position. In addition, the college English teaching model based on multimedia and network environment can cultivate students’ independent thinking, autonomous learning, analysis and problem - solving ability, and promote the high efficiency of college English teaching.

South Africa＇s Media Freedom Landscape and the Closures in Democracy

This research uses a theoretical conceptual method based on Chantal Mouffe＇s Radical Democracy which blended with Derrida＇s deconstruction thesis about ＂democracy to come＂ to reach findings on the state of South Africa＇s media freedom landscape. The method is contained in the conceptual framework. The article provides the constitutional legal landscape--or the overarching laws of the land--and the co-regulatory framework within which journalists work. There are four research explications： the Protection of State Information Bill （dubbed the Secrecy Bill）, a painting of the president and Freedom of Expression, an arson attack on a community radio station and finally, the death of a photojournalist at the hands of police. The argument here is that the death, the arson attack, the Secrecy Bill, and the shut-down of dissent during the exhibition of the painting of the president all undermine democracy and signify significant closures for the media in the now 20-year-old post-apartheid South Africa. The analysis and reflections will be framed within theories of radical democracy, which argue for more fights and contestations and more voices from the margins in order to deepen democracy, rather than rational consensus which closes the spaces for greater plurality.

＂Painting with Words＂： ＂Social Justice＂ Protest＇s Narrative in the Israeli＇ s News

This article analyzes the role of the media during the 2011 social protests in Israel, in order to examine why the ＂Social Justice＂ protest proved more effective than any other social protest organized previously in Israel. Scholars have shown that media fi＇aming has a powerful effect on citizen perception and policy debates. The social protests focused on the political-social-economic policy based on a neo-liberal ideology. They signified the beginnings of resistance to the system and became the focus of public and media identification via reports published by leading Israeli newspapers： Yedioth Ahronoth and lsrael Hayom. Using content analysis, the author explore how the media plays an important role to shape the public perception of how to think and act about the protest. Due to the results, we evident the expand media capacity and influence, and that these effects are mediated in presenting positive and supportive coverage, including connotations and metaphors expressed by means of familiar slogans and events in the collective memory of Israeli society. Additionally, the expression ＂social justice＂ that became the protest＇s slogan, offered a broad common basis with which each citizen could identify, including journalists.

Media Appraisal for Somatic Embryogenesis of Elite Inbred Lines of Maize

Several protocols have been published for somatic embryogenesis in maize. It is essential to compare different protocols on selected germplasm at initial stages of tissue culture to identify a protocol that would yield optimum results. The ultimate goal is to use in vitro system for selecting and generating stress tolerant maize germplasm. Immature embryos of the elite inbred lines of maize （87014 ×Z28-11 and POP43SRS5-57） were cultured on three different semi-solid media （0.5% agar） and the effectiveness of the media for somatic embryogenesis assessed over a period two weeks of sub-culturing. A significant difference was observed among the media in proportion of potentially embryogenic calli and callus cluster size at 1 and 2 weeks after culturing. N6 medium supplemented with casaminoacid （100 mg/L）, 2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid （1 mg/L）, L-proline （25 mM） and sucrose （2%）, and Murashige and Skoog （MS） medium supplemented with 2, 4-D （2 mg/L） and sucrose （3%） gave higher proportion of potentially embryogenic calli and callus size than MS medium supplemented with casaminoacids （100 mg/L）, 2, 4-D （2 mg/L）, abscissic acid （3.3μM）, and silver nitrate （195 μM） and sucrose （3%）. It Can＇t Be Like It Used to Be： Informality as a Contagion of Democratization in American Culture

The authors＇ purpose is to illustrate that counter cultures follow changes in democracy. While allowing more political freedom for individuals, such freedom is expressed by overtaking those rules, taboos, and mores that previously were followed when the minorities lacked that freedom. Changes occur in such topics as sexual mores, aesthetic appreciation of music, and the media. Beginning in the 1950s, American culture has changed dramatically because of changes in polities and the media. While not suggesting that this is good or bad, the authors profess that it is inevitable.

Social Freedom and Deprivation

What is the true sense of freedom？ Man is free and lacks freedom. The author considers the example of Louis XIV. It seemed that he held the sovereignty as the king of the absolute monarchy and the greatest freedom. But all his teeth were pulled out to protect him from illness and in his exercise as the king, he had many official obligations. Though he was king, he was free and lacked freedom. According to J. J. Rousseau （1762） who discussed the principle of freedom and oppression （deprivation）, if man realizes freedom, it needs to express his duty and subordination to the state. Therefore man is free and lacks freedom. What is the situation of contemporary citizens？ Instead of the oppression by the state, the citizen is controlled by the mass media. The best example is the drama observed about the prime ministers of Japan. There were many manipulations by the mass media. For our benefit we need to educate the persons who have good sense. We should remember that our freedom is not absolute. We are free and lack freedom, too. Often man searches freedom and comfort but often, on the contrary, he faces the lack of freedom. Electricity that is produced by a nuclear plant is useful, but the explosion of the nuclear plant creates a huge damage and tragedy, In a sense, deprivation is larger than freedom, because it could teach us self- awareness, moderation and let us know that we have enough.

Freedom of Speech and Newspaper Excesses

Press has been found to have an impact on the outcome of electoral political campaigns. Press can distort the electorate＇s perception of an objective reality to fulfill the political orientation of its editorial line. This can be achieved in propaganda and in the rhetoric of excess. Within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis （CDA）, this paper has conducted a thematic content analysis to study the rhetoric of excess in the construction of political identity and relations in 100 articles pertaining to two different ideologically oriented Tunisian newspapers, namely Le Maghreb and El Dhamir. The study covered the period from December 26, 2011 to December 26, 2012. Results have shown a low level of impartiality violating Gricean maxims of quality and quantity. This tendency could culminate in violence and undermine the public＇s confidence in the media. Proactive measures of media management are recommended.

A channel- and QoS-adaptive turbo coded modulation architecture for mobile multimedia communication

This paper proposed a cross-layer dual adaptive coded modulation architecture using turbo codes for mobile muhimedia communication, which simultaneously adapted to both the varying channel characteristics and the quality of service （QoS） of various mobile multimedia services to increase the average system throughput substantially. A pragmatic channel-adaptive turbo coded modulation scheme, which comes within 2.5dB of the Shannon limit, was optimally designed, and then a QoS-adaptive scheme was superimposed to build the dual adaptive architecture. Simulation results show that the novel dual adaption reduces the difference with the fading channel capacity to 2dB when assuming different services occur in equal probability and the service duration follows the exponential distribution.

The Construction of Formative Assessment Mode in Ethnic Minority Classes in Universities

From analyzing the current situations of formative assessment of ethnic minority students＇ college English in China and abroad, this paper gives the specific problems, the significance, and the research values of constructing the research. It tries to construct the formative assessment mode of ethnic minority class＇s college English on the basis of multimedia teaching, systematically and comprehensively investigates and analyzes the formative assessment＇s impacts upon the fostering of ethnic minority students＇ autonomous learning abilities, the impacts upon language learning and teaching, and the impacts upon the ethnic minority students＇ academic achievements and learning motives. The aim of this paper is to comprehensively enhance ethnic minority students＇ college English teaching qualities and the system of tests and assessments. The project based on relative theories and principals like language acquisition theory, humanism theory, constructivism theory, formative assessment, and summative assessment. According to the distinctiveness of ethnic minority college English teaching in science and technology, we are trying to construct the formative assessment system of ethnic minority college English teaching on the basis of multi-media network teaching mode. We comprehensively and systematically investigate and analyze the construction of the formative assessments＇ impact upon the cultivation of ethnic minority students＇ autonomous learning abilities, the impact upon language learning and teaching, the impact upon students＇ academic achievements, oral scores, and students＇ learning motivations.

Effective Learner-Lecturer Interaction Working With a Virtual Learning Environment

Using the Internet to learn a language creates wide opportunities to enhance learning （Association of teachers of English in Catalonia （APAC）, 2010）. The Internet activities promote learners＇ self-monitoring ability, encourage the use of multimedia and network technology, and develop students＇ cooperation and participation. During the latest years, there have been many changes in education as these new technologies, including VLEs （Virtual Learning Environments）, which have become an important part in the teaching/learning process. According to Tech Terms Computer Dictionary （2012）, VLE is a virtual classroom where teachers and students communicate. VLEs have evolved as at an early stage, they were only ways of transmitting information： Teachers uploaded the multimedia resources and students read this information. At a higher stage, VLEs have become interactive. This means that students become active. We have designed a virtual environment where students, weekly, must contribute their opinions and comments in response to a required activity uploaded by the teacher. In this paper, we describe this weekly task and analyze students＇ opinion about this planned activity. The students become an active subject in this field. In this paper, we show how VLEs are no longer a means of transmitting information but a means of interaction as well as a way of motivating our students to be involved in their learning process

LEARNER AUTONOMY IN CHINESE COLLEGE ENGLISH STUDY——A CASE STUDY IN WAHU

Based upon the results of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), this paper presents an investigation into the Net-based learner autonomy of first-year non-English major students studying in West Anhui University (WAHU). Those results reveal that student autonomy in learning is not satisfactory, since learners have difficulty adapting to the new learning mode. Some proposals — centred on the deeper co-operation of teachers and students, as well as the institution in its wider context — have been put forth as solutions to this problem.

Judicial Credibility in the We-media Era： Rationality, Constituent Elements and Construction

We-media＇s influence on judicial credibility has become increasingly apparent in the changing modes of information communication. Interpretation of a sample of influential lawsuits in the light of reason will reveal the core elements shaping the public＇s judgements on criminal cases, including both internal elements centering on trust, reputation and interaction and external elements centering on transaction costs. Our quantitative assessment of the role of trust, reputation and interaction in the public＇s views on criminal justice plus a comparison of the differences between their understanding and that of grassroots legal officials reflect the fact that underlying these rational choices is the clouding of judicial credibility due to contravention of the rules of justice. If we are to build judicial credibility, it is essential that we establish a sound relationship between the public and the criminal justice system, a relationship based on upholding the idea of rule of law and respecting the rules of justice.

Language, Discourse and Identity： A Case Study of a Chinese University Student Learning English Through the Internet

This paper reports a case study of an EFL student＇s English language learning through the Internet. It draws on a larger longitudinal study of six Chinese university students＇ critical web literacy practices, and focuses on one of the participants, Tao. Using interviews as the primary data source, the study explored how the student engaged in daily online literacy practices, and how he utilized digital media and open resources to learn English autonomously. The findings suggest that the Internet and digital media were his major tools for learning English. Tao＇s web literacy practices were connected to his identity construction and the development of critical thinking skills in the use of both English and Chinese. This paper raises questions about Chinese university students＇ autonomy in their digital literacy development and the learning of English in the digital age of globalization.
