But whether the SACs in China can fully fulfill the purpose, to what extend can learners gain benefits to develop autonomy, and what are the possible ways for improvement are quite necessary to investigate since there starts to emerge various problems during the implementation of SACs. This paper aims to analyze the prevalent establishment of SACs in China in order to find out the reasons for prevalence, the current implementing mode, the degree of effectiveness on developing learner autonomy, especially potential problems and causes, and finally put forward some suggestions pedagogical implications for improving.展开更多

The predicament of modern ecological literature and cultural theory is that there no linguistic theory to rely on. Biolinguistics emphasize the two-way interaction between language and environment, regard language as the intermediate link between nature and culture. It combines the "environment" of language with nature and social psychology. Thus this theory studies beyond such one-way determinism of traditional linguistics as "the world constructed language" or "language of the construction of the world," concerning the relationship between language and the world. It also goes beyond the dualism of "naturatness" of language and "agreement" of the issue to become the real eco-dialectical linguistic theory with rich "argument" . This theory can help people better understand the relationship between text and the world, nature and culture, natural ecology and social spiritual ecology. Therefore it is a basic theory of modern literature, cultural studies, as well as one of the most leading and challenging issue for the study of ecological poetic and culture abroad.展开更多

An interest in narrative environmental ethics reflects a re-evaluation of canonical ecophilosophical texts. Works such as Paul W. Taylor's Respect for Nature suggest an essentialist view of environmental ethics in which predetermined principles are imposed on places and situations. On the other hand, Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac combines first-person prose with science-based explanations of the "biotic pyramid" towards the development of a land ethic. Examples, such as Leopold's, of narrative ethics are thought to offer relational, place-based, non-authoritative, and non-anthropocentric models. This article examines three critical components of environmental narratives: self, context, and tradition. In order for environmental narratives to advance ecological ethics, they must be accompanied by the tradition of natural science (geology, ecology, and evolution) to provide the "sponsoring ground" for ethical concern and action. The role of natural science as a tradition--and indeed one of many--in narrative ethics provides the basis for ecological selfhood in the context of place. These assertions will be supported by an analysis of the environmental narratives of Karen Warren and Jim Cheney. However, in the temporally expansive and ecologically conscious poetic narratives of John Kinsella we find an environmental ethics deeply rooted in the material realities of place.展开更多

This presentation describes collaboration between learner autonomy and Hope English. The structure and layout of the textbook in conjunction with the tasks and activities is designed to facilitate autonomous learning. Investigations have affirmed that exposure to an autonomous learning environment generates more interest and motivation in the students then the traditional passive learning methods. They are able to learn more effectively and gain competence when communicating with others.展开更多
