The proposed self similar model is composed of a number of local models, each being a local linear neurofuzzy (LLNF) model, and their associated validity functions and can be interpreted itself as an LLNF model. The proposed model is trained by a nested local liner model tree (NLOLIMOT) learning algorithm which partitions the input space into axisorthogonal subdomains and then fits an LLNF model and its associated validity function on each subdomain. Furthermore, the proposed approach allows different input spaces for rule premises (validity functions) and consequents (local models). This appealing property is employed to assign the candidate input variables (i.e., previous load and temperature) which influence shortterm electricity demand in linear and nonlinear ways to local models and validity functions, respectively. Numerical results from shortterm load forecasting in the New England in 2002 demonstrated the accuracy of the SSLNF model for the STLF applications.展开更多

The phenomenological validity of the model is in the kinematical region 6.2 × 10-7 ≤ x ≤ 10-2 and 0.045 ≤ Q2 ≤ 120 GeV2. We use momentum sum rule to pin down the corresponding self-similarity-based gluon distribution function valid in the same kinematical region. The model is then used to compute bound on the longitudinal structure function FL(X, Q2) for A1tarelli-Martinelli equation in QCD and is compared with the recent HERA data.展开更多

Defining arbitrary spatial scalings, we are able to obtain a family of exact similarity solutions depending on one free parameter in addition to the model parameter holding the scalings. Numerical solutions compare favorably with the exact solutions in regions where the exact solutions are valid. Mixed wave-similarity solutions, which describe wave propagation in one variable and self-similar scaling of the entire solution, are also given, and we show that such solutions can only exist when the wave propagation is sufficiently slow. We also extend the Lin–Reissner–Tsien equation to have a forcing term, as such equations have entered the physics literature recently. We obtain both wave and self-similar solutions for the forced equations, and we are able to give conditions under which the force function allows for exact solutions. We then demonstrate how to obtain these exact solutions in both the traveling wave and self-similar cases. There results constitute new and potentially physically interesting exact solutions of the Lin–Reissner–Tsien equation and in particular suggest that the forced Lin–Reissner–Tsien equation warrants further study.展开更多

Specifically, we derive analytic forms of the degrees of freedom for these types of estimators in several common settings. These results provide efficient ways of comparing different estimators and eliciting tuning parameters. Moreover, our analyses reveal new insights on the behavior of these low rank matrix estimators. These observations are of great theoretical and practical importance. In particular, they suggest that, contrary to conventional wisdom, for rank constrained estimators the total number of free parameters underestimates the degrees of freedom, whereas for nuclear norm penalization, it overestimates the degrees of freedom. In addition, when using most model selection criteria to choose the tuning parameter for nuclear norm penalization, it oftentimes suffices to entertain a finite number of candidates as opposed to a continuum of choices. Numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the practical implications of our results.展开更多
