It is noticed gradually that translation is actually a dynamic and complex process, during which the translator, acting as a reader of the source text and also a writer of the target text, will unavoidably add something subjective in his or her translation. Since literary translation is interwoven with more cultural and social elements, the translator has to make a choice between loyalty and violation, getting freedom and being restricted when he or she confronts with all the clashes and conflicts between the source language culture and the target language culture.展开更多

Through a critical examination of the text structure of the plot and the language used by four main characters, it demonstrates that conservatism has gained great victory over liberalism in the following way： Those with conservative values are highlighted repeatedly in a favorable way, while those who preach liberal values are frequently associated with tragic events, and ultimately, the latter all converted into conservatives in one way or another, which indicates a reconciliation between the two opposing ideologies. This study might shed light on how visual media can be geared towards political justifications, and bring audience to the level of conscious awareness of that effect展开更多
Does the native tongue confer greater authenticity and connection？ And how does this connect with languages acquired later in life？ From thirty years of directing, training, and auditioning actors from a range of et...Does the native tongue confer greater authenticity and connection？ And how does this connect with languages acquired later in life？ From thirty years of directing, training, and auditioning actors from a range of ethnicities, I have believed that the mother-tongue has a particular and organic connection for an actor, one difficult to achieve in any other language. This belief was confounded in a laboratory conducted with Romanian actors, March 2013. The work was performed in both English and Romanian and it was with a sense of shock that I observed that the work was more vital, compelling, and physically and vocally engaged when they spoke in English. What were the factors at play here and what are the implications for future work？ Patsy Rodenburghas written of the giddy delight children find in language. Under what conditions does the native tongue evoke that ＂giddy delight＂ and where and when does it become an obstacle to such pleasure？展开更多
