By reviewing the clinical treatment results and the follow-up data, we analyzed the recurrent factors of acute pancreatitis using univariate analysis and multivariate analysis.RESULTS: Of the 245 acute pancreatitis patients, 77 were patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis. Of them, 56 patients relapsed two times, 19 relapsed three times, each patient relapsed three and four times. Forty-seven patients relapsed in hospital and the other 30 patients relapsed after discharge. Eighteen patients relapsed in 1 year, eight relapsed in 1-3 years, and four relapsed after 3 years. There were 48 cases of biliary pancreatitis, 3 of alcohol pancreatitis, 5 of hyperlipidemia pancreatitis, 21 of idiopathic pancreatitis. Univariate analysis showed that the patients with local complications of pancreas, obstructive jaundice and hepatic function injury were easy to recur during the treatment period of acute pancreatitis (P = 0.022<0.05, P = 0.012<0.05 and P = 0.002<0.05, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that there was no single factor related to recurrence. Of the 47 patients who had recurrence in hospital, 16 had recurrence in a fast period, 31 after refeeding. CONCLUSION: Acute pancreatitis is easy to recur even during treatment. The factors such as changes of pancreas structure and uncontrolled systemic inflammatory reaction are responsible for the recurrence of acute pancreatitis. Early refeeding increases the recurrence of acute pancreatitis. Defining the etiology is essential for reducing the recurrence of acute pancreatitis.展开更多

The production of siderophore Ybt in HPI-positive strains was detected by reporter gene bioassay to determine the relation between HPI genes and expression of Ybt. Flow cytometry was used to detect fluorescent signal of the reporter strain that could designate production of Ybt.RESULTS: Seven strains were HPI-positive and one strain was HPI-negative. Six of the seven HPI-positive strains were inserted into asnT-tRNA site. Moreover, seven EAggEC HPI-positive strains revealed enhanced fluorescence signal but the EAggEC HPI-negative strain did not. However, there was a difference in Ybt expression condition and level among these seven EAggEC HPI-positive strains. Although UFT073 strain, the prototype strain of uropathogenic E.coli(UPEC), carried the complete HPI core part, we did not detect the expression of Ybt in it.CONCLUSION: EAggEC HPI-positive strains can express the Ybt system, but the presence of HPI core part does not mean the functional expression of Ybt.展开更多

These consist of hyperdynamic circulation, defined as reduced mean arterial pressure and systemic vascular resistance, and increased cardiac output. Despite the baseline increased cardiac output, ventricular inotropic and chronotropic responses to stimuli are blunted, a condition known as cirrhotic cardiomyopathy. Both conditions may play an initiating or aggravating pathogenic role in many of the complications of liver failure or portal hypertension including ascites, variceal bleeding, hepatorenal syndrome and increased postoperative mortality after major surgery or liver transplantation. This review briefly examines the major mechanisms that may underlie these cardiovascular abnormalities, concentrating on nitric oxide, endogenous cannabinoids, central neural activation and adrenergic receptor changes. Future work should address the complex interrelationships between these systems.展开更多

Accurate taxonomic information is necessary for effective disease control management. In the Colletotrichum patho-system, different Colletotrichum species can be associated with anthracnose of the same host. Little information is known concerning the interactions of the species associated with the chilli anthracnose although several Colletotrichum species have been reported as causal agents of chilli anthracnose disease worldwide. The ambiguous taxonomic status of Colletotrichum species has resulted in inaccurate identification which may cause practical problems in plant breeding and disease management. Although the management and control of anthracnose disease are still being extensively researched, commercial cultivars of Capsicum annuum that are resistant to the pathogens that cause chilli anthracnose have not yet been developed. This paper reviews the causal agents of chilli anthracnose, the disease cycle, conventional methods in identification of the pathogen and molecular approaches that have been used for the identification of Colletotrichum species. Pathogenetic variation and population structure of the causal agents of chilli anthracnose along with the current taxonomic status of Colletotrichum species are discussed. Future developments leading to the disease management strategies are suggested.展开更多

Methods:hITF gene encoding mature peptide was modified with a polybistidine tag sequence at the N-terminal, and then inserted into the P. pastoris expression vector pGAPZaA at the downstream of the s-mating factor signal. After gene sequencing, the recombinant pGAPZaA-hITF was transformed into the P. pastoris strain X-33 with lithium chloride, rhITF was induced to constitutively express in shake flask, and then analyzed with Tricine SDS-PAGEand Western blotting. The obtained rhITF was isolated from the cultured supernatants by ammonium sulfate precipitation, Ni-NTA affinity chromatography, and ultrafiltration. Results:The correctness and integrity of rhITF were identified by restriction digestion and gene sequencing, rhITF was successfully expressed to 50 mg/L as a secretive protein. After purification, the purity was above 95%. Tricine SDS-PAGE and Western-blot analysis showed that rhITF presented as a single band with a molecular weight of 10 kDa, a little larger than 7 879 Da as assayed by mass spectrometry analysis. Conclusion: hITF P. pastoris expression vector is successfully constructed and rhITF is expressed in P. pastoris at commercially relevant level. This research lays foundation for the further functional studying of hITF.展开更多

Methods: The depression status of fifty-one hospitalized STDpatients was evaluated in a randomized control study usingZung's Quantitativc Table. 18 healthy control patients withsimilar demographic backgrounds were randomly chosen ascontrols. Patients with scores above or equal to 40 wereconsidered to be suffering from depression. Results: The prevalence rate of depression in the patient groupwas obviously higher than that of in the control (X^2=16.456,P<0.01). Prevalence of depression was found to be significantlyrelated to occupation (P<0.05). Though the prevalence was notfound to differ significantly between those with a treatmentcourse less than 2 months and those with one longer or equal to2 months (X^2=0.041, P>0.05), the mean depression scores of theformer group were significantly higher than those of the latter(P<0.01). No significant differences were found between newversus relapsing disease, married versus non-married, maleversus female, or differing educational backgrounds. Conclusion: STD patients showed significant prevalence ofdepression.展开更多

The study sites were selected based on bio-ecologic zones (urban, peri-urban and rural) which influence habitat and behavior. Pyrethrum spray catch was used in the collection of indoor resting mosquitoes from bedrooms of study communities (June-August 2008). The identification of mosquitoes was based on morphological keys earlier described. The blood meal taken and the stage of digestion and egg development were also observed. A total of 293 mosquitoes were collected and 50.5% were A. gambiae s.I. Of the three bio-ecologic zones: urban, 53.4% were A. gambiae s.l, 27.2% Culex and 19.4% Mansonia; peri-urban, 58% A. gambiae s. 1 and 42% Culex pipien s. 1 and rural, 40.2% A. gambiae s. 1, and 58.8% Culex sp respectively. About 96.6% of all mosquitoes collected had taken blood meals, with 50% of these being Anopheles gambiae s.I. Our findings indicate that urban rather exhibits rural characteristics and can best be described as "urban poor". However, more data need to be collected to ascertain this. The anopheline mosquitoes in the study communities are highly endophillic and anthropophagic and thus have high vectoral competence. The authors recommend frequent mosquito surveillance to avert malaria epidemic.展开更多
