Screening and Evaluation of Different Purple Sweet Potato Varieties Specially Used for Processing

[Method] By using a randomized bIock design, with ‘Longyan 7-3’ as a controI, five purpIe sweet potato varieties were introduced in the autumn of 2012 for comparaton test to evaluate agronomic tralts, economic characters, nu-tritional quality, and processing quantity of dried sweet potato products and fried chips. [Result] ‘Weixiang No.1’ exhibited the highest yield of 41.9 t/hm2, which was improved by 25.8% compared with ‘Longyan 7-3’; fresh tuber yield of ‘Jishu No. 18’ reached 31.6 t/hm2, which was simiIar to that of ‘Longyan 7-3’; dried sweet potato products of ‘Jishu No.18’ and ‘Weixiang No.1’ not onIy had simiIar process stabiIity, taste and coIor to ‘Longyan 7-3’, but also exhibited exceI ent morphoIogy, coIor, transparency, taste and texture, which indicated that these two purpIe sweet potato varieties were suitabIe for processing dried sweet potato products; fried sweet potato chips of ‘Jishu No.18’ and ‘Weixiang No.1’ had moderate oiI content, high expansion degree and simiIar quality to ‘Longyan 7-3’, which indicated that these two purpIe sweet potato varieties were suitabIe for processing fried sweet potato chips; ‘Fushu No.9’, ‘Quanzi No.1’ and ‘Ninzi No.1’ exhibited beautifuI shape, high nutritional quality and good eating quality, which were suitabIe for fresh eating or processing sweet potato powder. This article reviewed the beneficial effects of moderate voluntary physical exercise on brain health according to the studies on humans and animals, which includes improving psychological status and cognitive function, enhancing psychological well-being, decreasing the risks of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and dementia, and promoting the effects of antidepressant and anxiolytic. The possible underlying neurobiological mechanisms are involved up-active and down-active pathways. The up-active pathway is associated with enhancements of several neurotransmitters systems afferent to hippocampus, including norepinephrine (NE), serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), acetylcholine (ACh) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). The down-active pathway is mainly concerned with up-regulation of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurogenesis. It is suggested that NE activation via β-adrenergic receptors may be essential for exercise-induced BDNF up-regulation. The possible intracellular signaling pathways of NE-mediated BDNF up-expression may be involved in GPCR-MAPK-PI-3K crosstalk and positive feedback. 展开更多

Nutrient Balance in Relation to High Yield and Good Quality of Potato on an Acid Purple Soil in Chongqing,China 被引量:3

A field experiment was carried out to study nutrient balance among N, P, K and Mg in potato cultivation on an acid purple soil in Chongqing, China. The experiment included 8 treatments with equal P rate of 120 kg P2O5 hm-2: N0K2, N1K2, N2K2, N3K2, N2K0, N2K1, N2K1Mg and N2K3, where N0, N1, N2 and N3 stand for the N rates of 0, 75, 150 and 225 kg N hm-2, and K0, K1, K2 and K3 for the K rates of 0, 165, 330 and 495 kg K2O hm-2, respectively. Among the treatments designed, Thatment N2K2 with a nutrient supply ratio of N:P2O5:K2O:MgO = 1.25:1:2.75:0.28 gave the highest tuber yield and dry matter, highest starch and Zn and lowest NO3- contents in tuber, and high N, P and K use efficiency with an uptake ratio of N:P:K:Mg = 11.38:1:13.32:0.33 by tuber. Yield and starch and protein contents of tuber were the lowest in Treatment N0K2. Dry matter was the lowest but protein and NO3- contents were the highest in Treatment N2K0. Treatment N2K1Mg had the highest N, P and K utilization rates. Statistical analysis showed that yields of tuber and starch were in a positive linear correlation with the uptake amount of various nutrients and protein of the potato tuber was in a significantly positive linear correlation with tuber N cotent and in a significantly negative linear correlation with tuber K and Mg contents. Balanced application of N, P, K and Mg fertilizers (Treatmeat N2K2) was recommended for realization of high yield and good quality in potato cultivation. 展开更多

Reservoir water environment is a grey system. The grey clustering method is applied to assessing the reservoir water enviromnent to establish a relatively complete model suitable for the reservoir eutrophication evaluation and appropriately evaluate the quality of reservoir water, providing evidence for reservoir management. According to China's lakes and reservoir eutrophication criteria and the characteristics of China's eutrophication, as well as certain evaluation indices, the degree of eutrophication is classified into six categories with the utilization of grey classified whitening weight function to represent the boundaries of classification, to determine the clustering weight and clustering coefficient of each index in grey classifications, and the classification of each clustering object. The comprehensive evaluation of reservoir eutrophication is established on such a foundation, with Sichuan Shengzhong Reservoir as the survey object and the analysis of the data attained by several typical monitoring points there in 2006. It is found that eutrophication of Tiebian Power Generation Station, Guoyuanchang and Dashiqiao Bridge is the heaviest, Tielusi and Qinggangya the second, and Lijiaba the least. The eutrophication of this reservoir is closely relevant to the irrational exploitation in its surrounding areas, especially to the aggravation of the non-point source pollution and the increase of net-culture fishing. Most medical specialties including the field of gastroenterology are mainly aimed at treating diseases rather than preventing them. Genomic medicine studies the health/disease process based on the interaction of the human genes with the environment. The gastrointestinal(GI) system is an ideal model to analyze the interaction between our genes, emotions and the gut microbiota. Based on the current knowledge, this mini-review aims to provide an integrated synopsis of this interaction to achieve a better understanding of the GI disorders related to bad eating habits and stress-related disease. Since human beings are the result of an evolutionary process, many biological processes such as instincts, emotions and behavior are interconnected to guarantee survival. Nourishment is a physiological need triggered by the instinct of survival to satisfy the body's energy demands. The brain-gut axis comprises a tightly connected neuralneuroendocrine circuitry between the hunger-satiety center, the dopaminergic reward system involved in the pleasure of eating and the gut microbiota that regulates which food we eat and emotions. However, genetic variations and the consumption of high-sugar and high-fat diets have overridden this energy/pleasure neurocircuitry to the point of addiction of several foodstuffs. Consequently, a gut dysbiosis generates inflammation and a negative emotional state may lead to chronic diseases. Balancing this altered processes to regain health may involve personalized-medicine and genome-based strategies. Thus, an integrated approach based on the understanding of the gene-emotions-gut microbiota interaction is the next frontier that awaits the gastroenterologist to prevent and treat GI disorders associated with obesity and negative emotions. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper falls within the theoretical framework of green marketing. It investigates the relationships that exist between the motives relating to aquacultural products marketed under the private label of a traditional retailer (Coop), the attitude towards their purchase, the perception of their quality, their reliability and the willingness to pay for them. Particular importance is given to the green motives, those that lead to a preference for a product made with specific renewable energies such as biogas. The structural equation models (SEM) technique is used to develop propositions representing a theoretical approach to the integration of green marketing, in the context of the process for purchasing Coop brand fish. With regard to distinguishing between the motives, we referred to the approach that sets out three different types of motive: clean, green and ethical. The resulting managerial implications make it possible to assess how much the different types of motive influence the choices of the consumers. Managers will benefit from the results of this paper by understanding better the benefits for consumers of aquacultural products from renewable energy such as biogas. The originality of the paper lies in its focusing on green purchase behaviour in a poorly investigated sector such as that of fish breeding. The paper contributes to an understanding of the factors that influence environmentally responsible purchase behaviour and their exact relationships, that are still unclear in literature. The fact that environmental issues and concerns are constantly changing implies that ongoing research into their influence on consumer behaviour is essential 展开更多

Inorder to meet the needs of sustainability of enterprises and protect environment, the concept of green management isdeveloped and regarded as an important direction of management theory of the 21st century. Though there are manytheories and practices about green management in western countries, they are built based on the developed marketeconomy, which are not suitable for Chinese enterprises absolutely. Purple, P. purpureum Schum cv. Guimin and P. purpureum Rich &#215; P. americana King grass cv. Reyan No.4. The results in-dicated that average annual fresh yield of P. purpureum Schumab cv. Purple reached 141.4 t/hm2, which was 2.3 t/hm^2 higher than that of P. purpureum_Rich×P. americana_King grass cv. Reyan No.4; both average annual fresh yield of these two species was lower than that of P. purpureum Schum cv. Guimin. Stem-leaf ratio of P. purpureum Schumab cv. Purple was the lowest (1.17), which was 17.8% lower compared with P. purpureum Schum cv. Guimin, with significant differences (P〈0.05), indicating that P. purpureum Schumab cv. Purple had more leaves. Crude protein content of P. purpureum_Schumab cv. Purple was slightly lower than that of P. purpureum Rich×P. americana_King grass cv. Marine Green Algae as a Supplement for Chlorophyll and Other Nutrients in Vigna Radiata under UV-C Radiation-Induced Stress

The potential protective effect of marine green algae (Codium iyengerii) was examined in UV-C treated seedlings of Vigna radiata. The study comprises of three treatments of UV-C radiation (100-290 nm) dose for one min in alternative days. This results in deformed morphological parameters, including: decrease in plant height, fresh mass of leaves, shoots and roots, as well as leaf areas, which may be attributed with decreased in the relative growth rate, carbohydrate, amino acids, and protein contents of plant. A drastic effect of UV-C radiation was found on the photosynthetic apparatus where increase in red pigmentations on the leaves surface indicates the presence of UV-C absorbing pigments instead of chloroplast pigments. Visible spectrum of leaves chlorophyll showed reduced concentration of visible absorbing pigments which showed the deleterious effect of these radiations on physiological processes of seedlings. These negative effects of UV-C radiation on plant growth were found to be decreased by the application of green seaweed (Codium iyengerii), and absorption spectrums of chloroplast contents showed that UV-C radiation inducing damages were appropriately managed by enhanced concentration of seaweeds which significantly increased morphological and physiological parameters like leaf, stem, root biomass, and plant height under UV-C radiation were observed. 展开更多

The colors presented in ornamental fish determine their acceptability in the market, which is one of the main factors which determine their price. Selecting the fish by only looking at them makes the result analysis based in statistics difficult. Thus, it has become necessary to develop a method of quantification for practical use, which will apply minimal stress to the fish while being economically feasible. The proposed method uses a technique which converts the colors of interest to numerical indexes usable in statistical methods of higher precision. The results increase the abilities of fish nutrition researchers aiming to intensify the color characteristics of fish through selective breeding and genetic engineering with the intent of reliably achieving the desired visual characteristics for commercialization. 展开更多

Nutritional Profile of Untraditional Colored Wheat Grains and Their Bread Making Utilisation

The aim of this work was to focus on development of the new health benefit food product, bread made from colored wheat flour with a high content of proteins, fibre, β-glucans, phenols, flavonoids. The amount of protein ranged from 9% to 14% in our analyzed set. The highest value had yellow variety of wheat BONA DEA (14%), at least had red grain of variety FEDERER (9.02%). Average content of fl-glucans determined by enzymatically ranged from 0.25% (BONA VITA) to 0.67% (ABISSINSKAJA and LUTEUS). The largest amount of phenolic compounds (134 mg GAE/L) and flavonoids (2.80 mg RE/L) contained sample RU440-6, the lowest sample was IS CORVINUS (87 mg GAE/L). The highest antioxidant activity was observed in blue varieties of wheat 48M (0.269 mmol TE/L), while the lowest was determined in a sample of purple ANK 28A (0.083 mmol TE/L). Data show that there is potential to use purple, blue and red variety of wheat as novel ingredient resources for the development of new innovative products. Assessment of the results we selected two varieties of color wheat (KONINI, RU440-6) in bakery attempt to meet demand for nutritional quality and also have an increased content of healthy components. Overall the most pleasant taste, color and flexibility bread crumb had a loaf of bread prepared from a purple variety KONINI without the addition of β-glucans. 展开更多
