The Variety of learning styles requires the variety of teaching strategies. The analysis of learners' learning styles is one of the factors on which the design of learning strategies should be based. Matching teaching strategies and mismatching strategies are chosen intentionally according to the teaching contents, the teaching goals, and the learner's learning styles. Matching teaching strategies can reach the best result of teaching and learning. On the contrary, mismatching strategies can remedy the disadvantages caused by learning styles and be helpful for the development of learning styles.展开更多

The study is based on analysis of personal counseling experience, where literature was used as a tool to disclose client's personal meanings. During our sessions, clients were observed phenomenologically, and their speach was written down. Reflecting on the qualitative data of transformative learning in language arts, we developed techniques for facilitation and disclosure of personal meanings. Grounded theory was used for data generalization: Personal educational insights and its comparison with other researchers' theoretical insights were the basis to develop the methodical system for psychological guidance and counseling and to explain it. We revealed that focus on personally important meanings during discussion after literature reading has influence on the mental state of personality and deepens the interactions with the literature art, so we suggest a spiral model to explain the methodical system of our method. Transformative learning in language arts as a method of guidance and counseling can be understood as spiritual motion by spirale. It has three levels: (1) art level (interaction with the literature); (2) psychology level (counseling); and (3) art level (interaction with the same peace of literature as in the beginning of the session, poetic summary of the session). Levels (1) and (3) mean interaction with literature art, but at the third level, this interaction has new quality, because personality has better perception of Self and more ability to connect personal meanings and literature wisdom. At the first level, we have direction from literature to Personality. At the third level, we have direction from the Self (Speaking from Within) to literature. Disclosure of personally important meanings is a key to self-understanding and poetical thinking; our developed methodical system reduces emotional tension and strengthens interconnectedness between inner and outer world and improves poetical understanding. In this paper, the methodical system of transformative learning and guidance is discussed.展开更多

The results of the teaching and the investigation conducted by the author show that the choice of the teaching materials and the topics for the class must be included in the teaching plan. Besides, this paper also probed into the most difficult topic, the easiest topic, the topics that need to be explained more and the topics that need to be explained less in class; and the similarity and differences of the teaching contents for students in different grades are also analyzed. In the end, proper sources of the comparison of English and Chinese languages and cultures are revealed in order to enlarge students' knowledge and improve their competence in using English.展开更多

This article discusses the study and teaching situation of musical arts in South Africa, based on the research of nine institutions of higher learning. The major objective of this article therefore is to explore the extent to which South African institutions of higher learning and performing arts centres have incorporated the arts and culture of the historically marginalised people of South Africa in their respective curricula. From the results, it points out that music departments at South African institutions of higher learning have not yet fully transformed their programmes away from European models to programmes that affirm and embrace all the musical styles and genres practiced in the country. The article provides an advocacy for a strong androgynic approach in the study and teaching of performing arts in South Africa: the incorporation of both African indigenous and Western art forms in the respective curricula.展开更多

Consequently, the mathematics in China and in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty, in contrast to the deductive western mathematics, does not function on the basis of proving something deductively. Rather, the Chinese mathematics from this period was based upon making observations about problems by combining patterns with specific examples. In this paper, this author attempts to compare the differences in mathematics between the East and the West, and also to study the different perspectives in art between the East and the West, in order to identify the relationship between civilization, culture and the spirit of the age. This will explain the reason why the Western 'One Point Perspective' had spread in China and the Chosen Dynasty, yet could not be permanently established in these countries.展开更多

Comprehensive musicianship course is an experimental teaching method, but also a teaching art form in the music education system. Many achievements have been made to comprehensive musicianship course since the experimental teaching was established in China. The influence scope of comprehensive musicianship course is constantly expanded in the field of social music teaching, and simultaneously its influencing power is also rising. However, it should be implemented in the process of teaching according to the actual circumstances of the primary and secondary school students in China. In the teaching of comprehensive musicianship course, vocal music performance is applied as the main carrier in form and proceeds very rhythmically in the process of the whole time, and also thoughts and emotions are fully reflected by body languages. It starts from the comprehensive learning, and then is gradually promoted between non-major courses in institutions of higher learning and the music teaching in primary/secondary schools, so that a good teaching effect has been obtained. In comprehensive musicianship course, high importance is attached to the improvement of students' creativity and innovation ability. In this paper, the enlightenment from comprehensive musicianship course on China' s vocal music performance teaching is mainly analyzed.展开更多

My goal here is to flesh out some of the history of this circulation and translation by exploring the aesthetic and medical connections be- tween two specific anatomical collections, both housed at the Gordon Pathology Museum at Guy's Hospital, London. The Joseph Towne collection of anatomical waxes and the Lam Qua paintings of the patients of medical missionary Peter Parker were both produced in the nineteenth century. Significantly, the two collections were part of related but culturally specific shifts in the way bodies (and diseased bodies) were viewed, represented, understood and treated. I explore some of the convergences and divergences between Western and Chinese medical and artistic priorities and will address some of the issues raised by them. These two collections are important, I argue, because they demonstrate how aesthetic considerations shape medical knowledge and wider attitudes about the human body.展开更多
