大学英语课堂中的中国传统文化英译教学研究

中国传统文化进入大学英语课堂是培养大学生文化自信的重要环节。通过学习和翻译传统文化,不仅可以提升学生的语言能力,还能增强他们对自身文化的认同感和自豪感。本文拟基于克拉申“语言输入假设”的理论和方法,从语言学、心理学和认知科学的视角,探讨“可理解性语言输入”在中国传统文化英译教学中的效果。

文化翻译理论视角下中国当代小说的英译教学研究

世界文化交流不断扩散,在诸多优秀国外文学作品流入至我国的背景下,使我国读者更加深入了解了国外优秀作品并影响我国的外文学术范围。而我国也存在诸多优秀文学作品,通过英译后在国外发表,受到了国外文化学者的赞许。在英译教学过程中,应加强对翻译方法与翻译手段的研究,并使学生深入了解国外读者的文化习惯,否则难以展现我国优秀文学作品的精髓。

基于塞尔网络-背景理论的政治新词英译教学

为适应当下时代发展形势及其对口译教学提出的更高要求,以语言哲学视角为切入点,基于塞尔网络-背景理论和政治新词的特征,对我国政治新词的口译教学进行深入探究。在政治文本英译的教学过程中,要培养学生在英译中处理政治新词的能力,应着重加强学生进行长期准备与译前准备、表达连贯性和语言规范性方面的训练,并落实到具体教学方案中予以实施。这对于政治文本的口译教学具有重要的实践指导意义。

中国典籍英译教学的产出导向法研究

典籍英译蓬勃发展,典籍英译教学也不断重视起来,但以往的教学在课程设置、教学目标、教学模式存在的一些问题,从而导致学用分离、理论和实践相脱节,学生对典籍翻译不感兴趣,典籍翻译人才严重匮乏。文章试将产出导向法应用于典籍英译教学中,在课程设置、教学目标、教学模式、人才培养和师资建设等方面进行改革,以期达到学用一体的教学目标,培养应用型、实践性和职业化的高素质典籍英译后备人才。

Context Awareness and Word-rendering in the Teaching of Chinese-English Translation

In the teaching of Chinese-English（C-E） translation, the cultivation of students＇ awareness of context is very important. As far as word-rendering in C-E translation is concerned, contextual analysis can help student solve such problems as the precise comprehension of the SL（source language） words, the translation of vague words and polysemous words, the conveyance of implicature and non-correspondence of word meaning.

On the naturalization of lexical choices in Sino-English translator training

Through analyzing the difference between British lexis and Americanism and the translation teaching status quo related with lexical choices, the author elaborates on translator competence training in the lexical choice of Sino-English translation, and who puts forwards several suggestions on how to facilitate the effective communication between the business persons through naturalizing the lexical choices in Sino-English translation.

The Role of Non-verbal Behavior of Teachers in Providing Students Corrective Feedback and Their Consequences

Considering the primary focus of corrective feedback literature on verbal-correction provided by teachers and lack of attention to the role of other forms of corrective feedback in FL （foreign language） classroom interaction, this paper demonstrates how essential teachers＇ non-verbal communication and stance display are in making students＇ errors noticeable for them by providing samples from videotaped data. The findings in this study provide insights into the use of non-verbal behavior in providing students with corrective feedback. This study shows that research dealing only with verbal corrections provided by FL teachers cannot fully define the classroom interaction in terms of teachers＇ use of error correction techniques and student notification and uptake.

Traditional and Computer-Based Evaluation of Preschoolers＇ Oral Language in Greek A Review of the Literature

The purpose of this study is to examine and present the procedures and the tools that are described in the literature for observing preschool children＇s communication competence. Informal and formal standardised testing activities are included and a distinction is made on traditional and computer-based screening and diagnosis. The results of study illustrate the current trends of the literature and discuss the possibility of the computer-based screening and diagnosis to partially make up for the expert-personnel shortage

A study on pragmatic failure in cross-cultural communication

Through analyzing and comparing the anecdotes of pragmatic failure in cross-cultural communication from the aspects of lexicon, syntax and discourse, some pragmatic strategies are suggested in intercultural communication. To improve learners＇ cultural awareness and communicative competence, a cultural-linguistic approach in foreign language teaching should be adopted.

A generic analysis of English Research Article abstracts and the use of modal verbs for financial economics

This paper is a generic study of schematic structures and the use of modal verbs of 50 English Research Article （RA） abstracts. With Bhatia＇s （1990） model as the framework, three other move patterns were obtained besides the normal move order. The density of modal verbs varies greatly from move to move with significant differences in the frequency of occurrence in different moves. The use of modal verbs is much more move-determined than discipline-determined.

Teaching of English-Chinese translation to non-English-majors

Translation takes an important role in communication, whereas in the English-Chinese translation teaching for non-English-majors in colleges, it is ignored completely due to too much attention to listening, speaking, reading and writing, the paper suggests some feasible approaches to translation teaching and to improving students translation ability by analyzing students＇ mistakes in translation and the conditions of classroom translation teaching.

Differences between Chinese and Western Culture in Business English Teaching

In the 21st century, with gradually accelerating process of globalization, international exchanges are increasingly frequent. We should understand that within the range of the same cultural context, people have little difficulties in communicating with others; however, if we use the same way to treat the one who is under other cultural backgrounds, they tend to have misunderstanding or confliction, affecting the interaction and communication and causing undue loss. Business English translation is communication process and tools held between people speaking different languages to conduct commercial communication. Culture is a factor in translation that cannot be ignored, different nations have different historical backgrounds, manners, customs, cultural traditions, therefore, business English translation must understand the cultural differences between China and the West, and tried to make these differences disappear in the interpretation process and find the exact words in the target language, so exotic cultural can represented in the target language.

On the treason in English film title translation

Treason is the objective and inevitable phenomenon in film title translation. With the aid of functional theory, the authors attempt to have a thorough study on the treason in film title translation from four aspects： the types, the manifestations, the causes and the effects, in the purpose of improving the quality of film title translation, and arousing the academic attention on the inevitable phenomenon, treason, which was often regarded as the taboo in translation.

Vocabulary Alignment in the Continuation Task of Translation

Alignment effect in language research refers to the social cognition process in which people cooperate,adjust,and adapt to each other in interaction.Through empirical study,this paper explores alignment effect in the continuation task of translation(CTOT)and its possible influence on learning of English as foreign languge(EFL).The study was carried out by means of a CTOT.Participants were chosen from non-English major freshmen of similar capacity from a university in Guangzhou.They were divided into two groups,the experimental group(EG)and the control group(CG),with 13 students each.The students in EG were asked to carefully read some English-Chinese bilingual material.Then,the 26 participants were tasked with translating the paragraphs,which followed from Chinese into English.After that,they were asked to write down the words and expressions which they found difficult.Some of the participants were interviewed one month later for a deeper understanding of their memories of the vocabulary and their opinions on the CTOT.The data were analyzed by direct comparison and non-parametric test.The results showed that vocabulary alignment does occur in CTOT.The EG members tended to take advantage of words that appeared in the bilingual reading text.If multiple words from the reading appeared,with the same contextual meaning,they tended to choose the repeated words.As for influence of vocabulary alignment on EFL learning,it seemed that CTOT could not improve the quality of the translation itself,but could assist short-term vocabulary learning though no significant help to long-term vocabulary learning was revealed.The findings of this study provide support and explanation for some features and effects of CTOT,an important form of CT.However,the nature of CTOT itself,and its role in EFL learning deserve further research.

The Current Situation and Strategy of College English Translation Teaching

College English translation teaching is an important part of college English teaching. It is the principal way to train translators. However, there are too many problems in the process of college English translation teaching and it is really out-dated. Therefore, it is a must to improve college English translation teaching, complete the teaching contents, improve the curriculum provision, explore positive teaching modes, intensify the training of the teachers and enhance the students translation skills, so that the colleges could provide highly-qualified translators for the society

Skopos theory and translating strategies of cultural elements in tourism texts

Tourism texts （shortened as TT） have become a principal means of promoting tourism in China. Cultural elements are abundant in those texts. Therefore, the proper understanding and rendering of such messages is the key to the quality of TT translation. Based on Skopos theory the paper focuses on the translating strategies of TT cultural elements.

Translation and Evaluation of Chinese Version of the Inventory of School Motivation

This paper describes the development of a Chinese version of the ISM （Inventory of School Motivation）. Forward and backward translation strategies are used. Further, rigorous evaluation procedures are conducted to compare the form and meaning of the original English version and the back-translated version. The translation procedures ensure that the Chinese version is as equivalent as possible to the English version. Grammatical and syntactical issues with translation will be discussed in the paper.

Transcendence of traditional melodrama A brief analysis on Lillian Hellman＇s The Little Foxes

Lillian Hellman is a leading figure in 20th century American theatre. Due to the intensity of feeling and the general theme of good vs. evil, her plays are tagged with ＂melodrama＂. However, by examining one of her masterpieces The Little Foxes, it is revealed that Lillian Hellman transcends the confmes of traditional melodrama by combining the complexity of real life into the pretense of representation, thus making her play forcefully believable.

Teaching Cultural Strategies for Undergraduate Chinese-English Translation in Chinese Context

Although in China, ordinary translation theories favor the foreignizing strategy in translating culture, and outside China, there are opposing strategies between the cultural studies school and deconstructionist school, translation teachers should be fully aware of their respective revelations and limitations to translation teaching. This paper holds that in undergraduate C-E （Chinese-English~ translation teaching, the linguistic strategy is assimilation rather than alienation, thus, idiomaticness and preciseness should be emphasized. In teaching cultural translation strategy, first, we should promote students＇ cultural competence, which includes culture perceptive competence, culture comparison competence, culture evaluation competence, and culture mediation competence. Second, we need differentiate cultural strategies to translate literary and practical materials. In translating practical materials, functionality determines adaptation or exoticization; in translating literary materials, when cultural factor is the topic of writing, exoticization is employed for the main except that part of politeness system in institutional culture, abstract concrete conversion and description affection model in spiritual culture are adapted. When cultural factor is the background of writing, it is the target text aestheticality and readership intertextuality that determine adaptation or exoticization.
