高职英语教育改革如何适应职业教育的发展

本文在实践教学的基础上，分析了我国高等职业教育中英语教学的现状和英语教学中存在的问题，在分析这些问题的基础上，提出了我国高职教育中英语教学改革的对策，目的在于提高英语教学效果，并从总体方针、组织形式、教学方法三个方面提出了改进高职英语教学的手段，培养出适应社会需求的高职人才。

Experimental interdisciplinary program： Tourism Business Management and English

This paper is a report of an experimental undergraduate composite program of Tourism Business Management and English. It introduces the characteristics of the program structure, faculty, learning materials, teaching and learning methods, and assessment approaches. The achievements of the program as well as the major problems it has experienc.ed are also discussed.

Using critical thinking activities as tools to integrate language skills

Every day communication is an event in which there is an interactional relationship between interlocutors. This interaction needs whole language in which language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing; associated knowledge of vocabulary, meaning, syntax, etc.; and also, thinking skills are interwoven. This means that language should be kept whole and ＂if language isn＇t kept whole, it isn＇t language anymore＂ （Rigg, 1991, p. 522, cited in Richards ＆ Rodgers, 2001, p. 109）. In English as a Second Language/English Foreign Language （ESL/EFL） learning settings, improvement in one skill can affect the development of other skills. A particular course may highlight certain skills, but if the teacher is creative or specific tasks and problems are used in language learning settings, learners are provided with the opportunity to improve multiple, integrated skills. This paper aims at elaborating on critical thinking approach to language learning and introducing practical ideas for helping teachers to integrate language and thinking skills. It introduces 3 critical thinking activities （Dialogue journals, reading logs and literacy portfolios）, and also discusses how implementing them can serves as a way to integrate language skills. It also maintains that engaging learners in these activities helps them use authentic materials and solve problems of their own interest that in turn has a positive effect on student＇s motivation.

Spelling error corpora in EFL

Spelling error corpora can be collected from students＇ written essays, homework, dictations, translations, tests and lecture notes. Spelling errors can be classified into whole word errors, faulty graphemes and faulty phonemes in which graphemes are deleted, added, reversed or substituted. They can be used for identifying phonological and orthographic problems; spelling strategies that EFL students use in spelling English; spelling error causes or sources and relationship between spelling and decoding weaknesses. The paper gives examples of spelling errors and shows how spelling errors are quantified. Recommendations for remediation are also given.

The effect of grade entitlement attitudes on English programs in Japanese universities language testing and evaluation： Foreign language skill development

This paper deals with the effect of grade entitlement on English programs in Japanese universities. For years, teachers and administrators have noted that even though Japan is one of the highest spending countries on English education, there has not been a commensurate increase in English ability. Most research to explain this disparity has thus far focused on methodology, class size and teacher qualifications. Recent research dealing with academic entitlement at US universities may offer an alternative explanation for some of the lack of success that Japanese universities have experienced. Ellen Greenberger, one of the author＇s of Self-entitled college students： Contributions of personality, parenting and motivational factors, which appeared in 2008 in The Journal of Youth and Adolescence claims that in recent years, the number of students appealing their grades and expecting to be rewarded for effort rather than results has increased. Greenberger＇s paper motivated this study. 200 Japanese students completed a survey that presented a number of grade scenarios. The students were asked, based on test grades and completed assignments, what grade a student should receive in each hypothetical situation. Similarly, full-time and part-time teachers were asked what grade they would give in each situation. This paper explains the different situations, students＇ and teachers＇ responses to the scenarios, and then discusses the implications for English education in Japan.

A study on the Application of the Activity Theory to Leaming Activity Design of MOOC in English Grammar Teaching

MOOC has become the topic of the education reform in recent years. From activity theory point of view, meaningful learning is an active, conscious, constructive, and socially medicated practice that includes reciprocal intention-action-reflection activities. This paper aims to try to give a MOOC learning activity design model in grammar teaching which tries to offer a reference for the MOOC teaching in grammar lesson.

The analysis on the teaching mode reform of the college English linguistics course

As an important communicative language, English has become an important part of college education in the process of the growing education reform, therefore, the college English linguistics course teaching mode reform is the inevitable trend of social development to a certain extent, it has the important influence on promoting the student＇ s ability improvement. This paper analyzes the main problems of the college English linguistics course teaching, conducts a comprehensive analysis of the reform ideas for the college English linguistics course teaching mode and puts forward the mode of the college English linguistics course teaching reform strategy to really improve the level of college English linguistics course teaching.

Study on the Strategies for the Construction of the Leaming- oriented English Teaching Team in Colleges and Universities

Along with the continuous development of English educational reform in colleges and universities, higher requirements are proposed on the construction of English teaching team. In this paper, several strategies for constructing a learning-oriented English teaching team are proposed in combination with the current situation of English education in colleges and universities.

The Teaching Methods of English Teaching in Tertiary Vocational Education

The English teaching of Tertiary vocational education is an important issue that we must pay close attention to. Through the analysis of the present situation, the paper brings some new ideas about the English teaching methods. （1） The new concepts about the teaching goals and plans. （2） The new concepts about the teaching ideas. （3） The new concepts about the teaching arrangement and so on. In addition, the paper points out that the English teachers in the vocational colleges should not only follow with interest in teaching, but also enhance personal quality, in order to realize the intention of career-leading and practical talents training in the tertiary vocational education.

Effective combination of learning styles and college English teaching

Students preferentially take in and process information in different ways, and teaching methods also should vary accordingly. How much a student can learn is also determined by the compatibility of the student＇s learning styles and the teacher＇s teaching styles. It is important for teachers to know their learners＇ preferred learning styles because this knowledge will help teachers to plan their lessons to match or adapt their teaching and to provide the most appropriate activities to suit a particular learner group.

Understanding class silence in China： Approach from the perspective of intercultural study

Chinese students tend to keep silent in class and bear in mind what has been taught passively rather than expressing their ideas actively like westem students, which concems Chinese teachers deeply because of the unsatisfactory class production. From the perspectives of ＂face＂ in Politeness Principle on the basis of cultural dimensions, this paper mainly focuses on class silence with a comparison between different cultures in the east and west, explores the true reasons for its happening in China and constructs a reference research for follow-up studies.

On learner-centered education

The issue learner-centered education has always been a hot issue ever since it was created. In this essay, the author puts forward three relevant research questions： Historical development of learner-centered education, the effect of the existing pedagogies on learner-centered education and the concerns from different players relating to this issue.

On multi-role effects of teachers in College English teaching

The paper first introduces the multi-roles of College English teachers, from the knowledge instillers to the designers and organizers of classroom activities, the participants of learning English, information counselors and emotional supporters, and the models of morality. Based on this, the paper makes a detailed analysis of the multi-role effects which can not only stimulate students＇ creativity and improve their self-learning ability, but also adapt to the reform of College English teaching.

On the treason in English film title translation

Treason is the objective and inevitable phenomenon in film title translation. With the aid of functional theory, the authors attempt to have a thorough study on the treason in film title translation from four aspects： the types, the manifestations, the causes and the effects, in the purpose of improving the quality of film title translation, and arousing the academic attention on the inevitable phenomenon, treason, which was often regarded as the taboo in translation.

A content analysis related to the cross-cultural/intercultural elements used in EFL coursebooks

This study aimed to examine some coursebooks of English as a Foreign Language （EFL） to see whether they involve any cross-cultural topics belonging to different cultures from different countries in the world. Assuming that EFL coursebooks written after the communicative movements in foreign language teaching and learning in the 1970s and the 1980s would have a plenty of cross-cultural elements, it was expected to see these coursebooks would also have a lot of cross-cultural elements, especially regarding their publication dates. This study aimed to investigate to what extent teaching materials used in EFL setting involve intercultural elements. Accordingly, 5 coursebooks were evaluated, and topics and number of cross-cultural elements were presented. The coursebooks used in the study were published in 1998, 1999, 1999, 2001 and 2006 namely. However, as the results displayed, the frequency of cross-cultural elements were not mutually related to their publication dates. The distribution and frequency of cross-cultural elements were not balanced with the dates chronologically.

Research on the design of the multimedia intelligence teaching system based on the oral English curriculum

Applying the multimedia technology to the English teaching is an innovation for the English teaching methods and means, because the traditional teaching cannot solve the problems of listening and speaking locally, but the multimedia teaching can well solve this problem, and can also improve the students＇ English comprehensive abilities. It is a question of the teaching skills whether the teachers can adroitly, effectively and skillfully adopt the advanced teaching methods to implement the teaching.

English Multimedia Teaching Development Status and Countermeasures

Classroom instruction is mainly the form of implementation of quality education in schools, the main venue of the teachers and students bilateral activities. The students in school spent most of their time in the classroom teaching. Therefore, it is the main front of the school education and students healthy growth. Instead of traditional classroom teaching in the new curriculum reform today, it is the learning being full of joy, independent, cooperate, and exploratory ways of learning, experience of the joy of success, positive evaluation to the diversification students. Vigorous and harmonious classroom learning atmosphere stimulates the students to actively participate in classroom, explore, and apply knowledge to solve problems. In this case, students can gain self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-belief, the courage to cynically express them and to express their unique insight. Therefore, a harmonious classroom teaching can benefit for students.

The launch of the multivariate English education in institutions of higher learning in our country and the curriculum design

At present, with the further deepening of the integration of the world economy, the international exchanges and cooperation continue to increase, and the training mode of the talents must also be internationalized. The students should receive the cultivation of the professional knowledge, and at the same time, they must have a certain ability of the cross-cultural communication and the level of the professional English. In addition, the national medium and long-term educational reform and development plan （2010 - 2020） also proposed the strategic requirements to improve the quality of the higher education and the level of the internationalization, to promote the comprehensive development of the students. Because of this, the national big colleges and universities are carrying out the reform of the university English teaching in different degrees, and have achieved certain results. But today, in terms of the direction of the educational reform of the university English, the academic circles are still unable to reach an agreement. For example, to set the university courses in English, some scholars believe that because the English levels of the high school graduates enhance unceasingly, the courses with the language teaching as the main contents cannot meet the needs of the students, which need to be reduced or even eliminated, and should be replaced by the bilingual teaching with the liberal education as the contents. Also some scholars advocated that the orientation of the university English teaching in the future should be the ESP teaching or the academic English teaching, rather than the traditional English teaching for the humanities.
