Isooctane is a promising gasoline additive that could be produced by dimerization of isobutene(IB) with subsequent hydrogenation.In this work,the dimerization of IB has been carried out in a batch reactor over a temperature range of 338-383 K in the presence of laboratory prepared Ni/Al_2O_3 as a catalyst and n-pentane as solvent.The influence of various parameters such as temperature,catalyst loading and initial concentration of IB was examined.A Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model of IB dimerization was established and the parameters were estimated on the basis of the measured data.The feasibility of oligomerization of IB based on the reactive distillation was simulated in ASPEN PLUS using the kinetics developed.The simulation results showed that the catalyst of Ni/Al_2O_3 had higher selectivity to diisobutene(DIB) and slightly lower conversion of IB than ion exchange resin in the absence of polar substances. 展开更多

Thus, we hypothesize... Physiological and ecological mechanisms that define treelines are still debated. It has been suggested that the absence of trees above the treeline is caused by low temperatures that limit growth. Thus, we hypothesized that there is a critical minimum temperature (CTmin) preventing xylogenesis at treeline. We tested this hypothesis by examining weekly xylogenesis across three and four growing seasons in two natural Smith fir (Abies georgei var. srnithii) treeline sites on the southeastern Tibetan Plateau. Despite differences in the timing of cell differentiation among years, minimum air temperature was the dominant climatic variable associated with xylem growth; the critical minimum temperature (CTmin) for the onset and end of xylogenesis occurred at 0.7 ±0.4 ℃. A process-based modelling chronology of tree-ring formation using this CTmin was consistent with actual tree-ring data. This extremely low CTmin permits Smith fir growing at treeline to complete annual xylem production and maturation and provides both support and a mechanism for treeline formation. 展开更多

Electromagnetic levitation technique was used to undercool bulk samples of Co-20% Cu and Co-60% Cu alloys and high undercoolings up to 303 and 110 K were achieved,respectively.The dendritic growth velocities were measured as a function of undercooling.The dendrite growth velocity of the Co-20% Cu alloy was much higher than that of the Co-60% Cu alloy.The experimental data were analyzed on the basis of the LKT/BCT dendritic growth model by taking into account non-equilibrium interface kinetics.It has been revealed that a transition from solute diffusion controlled dendritic growth to thermal diffusion controlled dendritic growth occurs at an undercooling of about 66 K for the Co-20% Cu alloy,whereas the dendrite growth in Co-60% Cu alloy proceeds in a solute diffusion controlled mode within a large solidification temperature range,and the solutal undercooling plays a dominant role.It is thus deduced that certain distinct solidification temperature ranges may be responsible for the different solidification modes for the two alloys. 展开更多

We present a study to show the possibility of using two well-known space partitioning and indexing techniques, kd trees and quad trees, in declustering applications to increase input/output (I/O) paraUelization and reduce spatial data processing times. This parallelization enables time-consuming computational geometry algorithms to be applied efficiently to big spatial data rendering and querying. The key challenge is how to balance the spatial processing load across a large number of worker nodes, given significant performance heterogeneity in nodes and processing skews in the workload. 展开更多
