METHODS: Experimentally-induced LC Wistar rats (20 rats/group) were treated with either oral saline or oral NTau for 6 consecutive weeks. Evaluation parameters included portal venous pressure (PVP), portal venous resistance (PVR), portal venous flow (PVF), splanchnic vascular resistance (SVR) and mean arterial pressure (NAP). Vasoactive substance levels including nitric oxide (NO), nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) were also measured. Histological investigation of type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen (COL Ⅰ and Ⅲ) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) was also performed. RESULTS: Treatment with NTau (1) significantly decreased PVP, PVR and PVF, and increased MAP and SVP; (2) markedly increased the vascular compliance and reduced the zero-stress of the portal vein; (3) markedly decreased the amount of NO and cGMP and activity of NOS; and (4) improved the pathological status of the liver tissue and reduced the expression of COL Ⅰ, COL Ⅲ and TGF-β1. CONCLUSION: NTau inhibited the LC-induced PHT by improving hyperdynamic circulation, morphology of liver and biomechanical properties of the portal vein in experimentally-induced LC rats.展开更多

Methods: Model rats with hyperactivity of liver-yang hyperactivity were prepared using male SD rats.Once successful, the rats were randomly divided into groups and given medicine by gavage for 4 weeks. Blood wascollected from the abdominal aorta to prepare serum. Serum nitric oxide (NO) concentration was determined bychemical colorimetry. The contents of ET, TXB2 and 6-K-PGF1a were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbentassay (ELISA). Results: Compared with the control model group, the blood pressure, serum ET and TXB2 of rats in thewind dispelling medicine group was not significantly reduced, while those of rats in captopril group, Tianma GoutengDecoction I group (TGD group) decreased significantly (P 〈0.05 for both). Interestingly, the blood pressure, serum ETand TXB2 of rats in the combination group (wind dispelling medicine & TGD) decreased significantly compared withboth wind dispelling medicine group and TGD group. Meanwhile, the levels of serum NO and 6- K-PGF1a in thecombination group was much higher than those in the wind dispelling medicine group or TGD group (P 〈0.05 for both). However, the levels of serum NO and 6- K-PGF1a in the wind dispelling medicine group was not significantly increasedcompared with the model group. Conclusion: There is no direct pressure lowering effects of wind dispelling medicinealone, while wind dispelling medicine could potentiates the antihypertensive effects of Tianma Gouteng Decoction I.Besides, the synergistic effects may be related to decreased ET and TXB2 levels and the increased NO and 6- K-PGF1alevels.展开更多

This disease has not been reported in Southeast Asia, in spite of long term importation for breeding purposes of African seed and pollen, shown in this laboratory at the University of Bath to be contaminated with Foe disease epidemiology was recently studied in plantations in Ghana. Infection mainly occurred in clusters, implying root-root transmission rather than aerial spread by spores. Molecular diagnostic tools has being developed for: (1) rapid detection and quantification of Foe in plant tissue, soil, seed and pollen for quarantine purposes in order to prevent transcontinental spread of Foe; and (2) to test efficacy of putative disease resistant or tolerant palm genotypes. We have investigated the possibility of Foe-suppressive soils in Malaysia in order to explain the non-appearance of this vascular disease there and possibly to reveal other potential biocontrol agents. The explanation as to why Malaysia has not yet attained the disease is likely to revolve around the soil properties, in particular the microflora. This review reported that greater disease severity based on visual symptoms occurred in autoclaved soils and compost than in untreated soils when oil palm seedlings artificially infected with Foe.展开更多

Methods: A randomized, controlled experiment, was performed at the Department of Radiology Laboratory, the First Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University, between September 2004 and January 2006. Brain glioma SHG-44 cells were divided into three groups: SHG-44, SHG-44-10, and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups. The SHG-44-10 cells group was irradiated with dose of 10 Gy by a linear accelerator (6 MVX). It was passaged for 15 generations and cultured in RPMI-1640 culture media. Then SHG-44-10 + ACE cells group was treated with ACE. Measures: Community re-double time, mean lethal dose (DO), extrapolation number (N), fraction surviving fraction irradiated by 2 Gy dose (SF2), quasi-threshold dose (Dq), and cell cycle. Results: The SF2 of the SHG-44, SHG-44-10, and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups were 70.8%, 80.6% and 45.2%, respectively, with significance (P = 0.040). The SHG-44-10 and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups were irradiated with 8 Gy. After 12 hours, the G2/M ratio of the SHG-44-10 and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups were indicating significantly higher ratio compared to pre-irradiated groups (P 〈 0.01). After 24 hours, the G2/M ratio of the SHG-44-10 cells group decreased rapidly, while the ratio of the SHG-44-10 + ACE cells group still maintained in high level. Conclusion: In the present study, Subtoxic dose of ACE increased the radiosensitivity of the progeny of irradiated human glioma cell. ACE may be an useful radiosensitivity agent in the treatment of recrudescent human malignant glioma.展开更多

Porcine aortic valves were decellularized with Triton X-100 and trypsin. The cells were encapsulated into the PEG-hydrogels to complete the process of the cells attaching to the acellular porcine aortic valves. Herein, the autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) of goats were selected as the seeding-cells and the tendency of MSCs toward differentiation was observed when the single semilunar TEHV had been implanted into their abdominal aortas. Furthermore, VEGF, TGF-β1, and the cell adhesive peptide motif RGD were incorporated. Light and electron microscopy observations were performed. Analysis of modified PEG-hydrogels TEHV's (PEG-TEHV) tensile strength, and the ratio of reendothelial and mural thrombosis revealed much better improvement than the naked acellular porcine aortic valve (NAPAV). The data illustrated the critical importance of MSC differentiation into endothelial and myofibroblast for remodeling into native tissue. Our results indicate that it is feasible to reconstruct TEHV efficiently by combining modified PEG-hydrogels with acellular biomaterial scaffold andautologous MSCs cells.展开更多

Massive leakage of fluid from vascular space leads to lose of blood plasma and decrease of effective circulatory blood volume, result- ing in formation of severe tissue edema, hypotension or even shock, especially in severe burn injury. Fluid resusci- tation has been the only valid approach to sustain patient's blood volume for a long time, due to the lack of overall and profound understanding of the mechanisms of vascular hyperpermeability response. There is an emerging concept in recent years that some so-called barrier stabilizing media- tors play a positive role in preventing the increase ofvascu-lar permeability. These mediators may be released in re- sponse to proinflammatory mediators and serve to restore endothelial barrier function. Some of these stabilizing mediators are important even in quiescent state because they preserve basal vascular permeability at low levels. This review introduces some of these mediators and reveals their underlying signaling mechanisms during endothelial barrier enhancing process.展开更多
