According to nucleus and cytoplasm characters, four types of haemocytes were recognized: agranular haemocytes, lymphoid haemocyte, large granular and small granular haemocytes. Agranular hamocyte is the main cell type, accounting for 75%. It is agranular with rich organelles in cytoplasm, including mitochondria, golgi body and endoplasmic reticulum. Glycogen deposits were usually found in this cell type. The number of lymphoid haemocyte accounts for 1% - 2%. This cell type is agranular and shows a high ratio of nucleus to cytoplasm. A few organelles were found. High electrondense granules with diameters of 0.2 - 0.5μm and rich organelles were found in small granular haemocyte. The proportion of this cell type is about 15%. Rich granules of high electron-dense with diameters of 0.8- 2.4μm were found in large granular haemocyte. The proportion of this cell type is about 10%, and the quantity of organelles is the least.展开更多

The research group concerned with the health of these communities has performed research to find the ass...The conditions of poverty and violence in Colombia have increased the displacement of people of African descent. The research group concerned with the health of these communities has performed research to find the association of alterations in the hemoglobin molecule with the presence of iron deficiency anemia. This research was performed with the support of the epidemiological public health laboratory. The objective of the study is the association of sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, and the presence of hemoglobin C and its trait, with iron deficiency anemia in Afro-Colombians between 18 and 50 years of age, by investigation of hemograms, peripheral blood study, serum ferritin, soluble receptor for transferrin (sTfR) and index of sTfR, and hemoglobin electrophoresis. This research is a descriptive, quantitative, transverse, structured, non-experimental and correlational study, with a total of 56 samples (10 men, 46 women). The results showed that ferritin in men had normal values, compared to 32% (15/46) of women who had low levels of ferritin. Men's sTfR levels were normal, while in women 2% (1/46) had iron deficiency in stage I, 41% (19/46) iron deficiency in stage If, and 9% (4/46) possibly without anemia iron deficiency. In hemoglobin electrophoresis, 84% (46/56) of the population presents hemoglobin A, 4% (2/56) increased hemoglobin A2 and fetal hemoglobin related to a possible thalassemia trait, 11% (6/56) had hemoglobin AS related to sickle cell trait, and 2% (1/56) show hemoglobin AC, related to hemoglobin AC trait. This project supports investigative and social projects, and also contributes to the improvement of the quality of life and dissemination of good health practices in these communities.展开更多
AIM: To explore the relation between B-cell-specific Moloney murine leukemia virus insertion site 1 (Bmi-1) expression and the clinicopathological features of gastric carcinoma (GC).METHODS: Immunohistochemistry...AIM: To explore the relation between B-cell-specific Moloney murine leukemia virus insertion site 1 (Bmi-1) expression and the clinicopathological features of gastric carcinoma (GC).METHODS: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Bmi-1 and ki-67. Doublelabeling staining was used to display the distribution of Bcl-2^+/ki-67 cells in 162 cases of GC and its matched normal mucosa and precancerous lesion.RESULTS: The positive rate of Bmi-1 expression in GC(52.5%) was significantly higher than that in normal gastric mucosa (21.6%, X^2 = 33.088, P 〈 0.05). The Bmi-1 expression in GC was closely related with the Lauren's and Borrmann's classification and clinicalstage (X^2 = 4.400, 6.122 and 11.190, respectively, P〈 0.05). The expression of ki-67 was related to the Borrmann's classification (X^2 = 13.380, P 〈 0.05).Bcl-2 expression was correlated with the Lauren's classification (Z2 = 4.725, P 〈 0.05), and the Bmi-1 expression both in GC (rk = 0.157, P 〈 0.05) and inintestinal metaplasia (rk = 0.270, P 〈 0.05).CONCLUSION: Abnormal Bmi-1 expression in GCmay be involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis andcancerization.
