This model of offce practice is dedicated to evaluating patients with CKD for their complete well-being; blood pressure control, fuid control and main-tenance of acid-base status and hemoglobin. Frequent offce visits, every four to six weeks, confer a healthy life style year after year associated with a feeling of good well-being and a positive outlook. Having gained that, such patients remain compliant to their medica-tion and diet, and scheduled laboratory and offce vis-its which are determinant of a dialysis-free life.展开更多

We make a nmnber of observations, including the lack of publicly available loT datasets that can be used by the research and practitioner communities. Given the potentially sensitive nature of IoT datasets, there is a need to develop a standard for sharing IoT datasets among the research and practitioner communities and other relevant stakeholders. Thus, we posit the potential for blockehain technology in facilitating secure sharing of IoT datasets (e.g., using blockchain to ensure the integrity of shared datasets) and securing loT systems, before presenting two conceptual blockchain-based approaches. Donor shortages for organ transplantations are a major clinical challenge worldwide. Potential risks that are inevitably encountered with traditional methods include complications, secondary injuries, and limited sour...Donor shortages for organ transplantations are a major clinical challenge worldwide. Potential risks that are inevitably encountered with traditional methods include complications, secondary injuries, and limited source donors. Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology holds the potential to solve these limitations; it can he used to rapidly manufacture personalized tissue engineering scaffolds, repair tissue defects in situ with cells, and even directly print tissue and organs. Such printed implants and organs not only perfectly match the patient's damaged tissue, hut can also have engineered material microstructures and cell arrangements to promote cell growth and differentiation. Thus, such implants allow the desired tissue repair to he achieved, and could eventually solve the donor-shortage problem. This review summarizes relevant studies and recent progress on four levels, introduces different types of biomedical materials, and discusses existing problems and development issues with 3D printing that are related to materials and to the construction of extracellular matrix in vitro for medical applications.展开更多

Different tools have been developed, incl...Evaluation and improvement of quality of care provided to the patients are of crucial importance in the daily clinical practice and in the health policy planning and fnancing. Different tools have been developed, includ-ing incident analysis, health technology assessment and clinical audit. The clinical audit consist of mea-suring a clinical outcome or a process, against well-defined standards set on the principles of evidence-based medicine in order to identify the changes needed to improve the quality of care. In particular, patients suffering from chronic renal diseases, present many problems that have been set as topics for clinical audit projects, such as hypertension, anaemia and mineral metabolism management. Although the results of these studies have been encouraging, demonstrating the ef-fectiveness of audit, overall the present evidence is not clearly in favour of clinical audit. These findings call attention to the need to further studies to validate this methodology in different operating scenarios. This review examines the principle of clinical audit, focusing on experiences performed in nephrology settings.展开更多

In Brazil, pilot-projects were announced in the reservoirs of hydroelectric power plants of Balbina (State of Amazonas) and Sobradinho (State of Bahia). Several advantages, not necessarily valid in Brazil, are mentioned for deploying this kind of technology, such as an increase in energy generation, reduction of water losses through evaporation, low environmental impact, no occupation of land etc. In this article, several of these allegations are analyzed preliminarily under the Brazilian point of view, and relevant considerations are presented. It is concluded that the technical and economic advantages of floating photovoltaic systems are not yet clear in Brazil and that pilot projects, such as those under way, should be used to clarify several important aspects related to them.展开更多

Topical eye drop is the most convenient and patient compliant route of drug administration,especially for the treatment of anterior segment diseases. Delivery of drugs to the targeted ocular tissues is restricted by various precorneal,dynamic and static ocular barriers. Also,therapeutic drug levels are not maintained for longer duration in target tissues. In the past two decades,ocular drug delivery research acceleratedly advanced towards developing a novel,safe and patient compliant formulation and drug delivery devices/techniques,which may surpass these barriers and maintain drug levels in tissues. Anterior segment drug delivery advances are witnessed by modulation of conventional topical solutions with permeation and viscosity enhancers. Also,it includes development of conventional topical formulations such as suspensions,emulsions and ointments. Various nanoformulations have also been introduced for anterior segment ocular drug delivery. On the other hand,for posterior ocular delivery,research has been immensely focused towards development of drug releasing devices and nanoformulations for treating chronic vitreo-retinal diseases. These novel devices and/or formulations may help to surpass ocular barriers and associated side effects with conventional topicaldrops. Also,these novel devices and/or formulations are easy to formulate,no/negligibly irritating,possess high precorneal residence time,sustain the drug release,and enhance ocular bioavailability of therapeutics. Emptying, cleaning and opening a tank for inspection take many months and are very expensive. Inspection costs can be reduced significantly by inserting robots through manholes on the tank roof to pertbrm non-destructive testing (NDT). The challenge is to develop robots that can operate safely in explosive and hazardous environments and measure the thickness of floor plates using ultrasound sensors. This paper reports on the development of a small and inexpensive prototype robot (NDTBOT) which is designed to be intrinsically safe for zone zero operation. The robot "hops" across the floor to make measurements, without any external moving parts. The paper describes the design, experimental testing of the NDTBOT and presents results of steel plate thickness measurements made under water.展开更多

As preservative easily migrates into oil phase, it reduces preservative efficacy. A common solution is to increase preservative amount in the whole system. However this way always brings safety issues as preservative is a major allergen. Another effective but safety way is to prohibit preservative migrating into oil phase. In cosmetic research area, phenoxyethanol (PE) and p-Hydroxyacetophenone (p-HAP) pair gradually emerges to be a popular preservative candidate. Thus this new preservative system has been focused as the research object in this work. The relative contents (C) of both PE (CPE) and p-HAP (Cp-HAP) in water phase has been carefully determined. Eight commonly used oils have been further employed to check CPE and Cp-HAP in different oil-water system. The other infuence parameters such as polyols, processing parameters are also investigated. Results shows squalane, petrolatum, silicone oil and hydrogenated polyisobutene might be good oil phase candidates for formulation when using PE and p-HAP preservative system. In these oil systems, PE and p-HAP are mainly located in water phase. Besides, increasing percentage of 1, 3-butylene glycol, shortening homogenization time or adding preservatives at the end of processing under lower temperature could effectively increase effective content preservatives in water phase, either.展开更多
China is the largest solar water heater producer and market in the world.Despite the fast growth and an installed capacity that accounts for the majority of the global gross,China's per capita solar hot water capa...China is the largest solar water heater producer and market in the world.Despite the fast growth and an installed capacity that accounts for the majority of the global gross,China's per capita solar hot water capacity is still very low,implying a huge margin of market potential;and the recognition of the industry in the global market is handicapped by the scattered scale of production and inconsistent product quality.To ensure continued growth of China's solar water heating(SWH) industry,Chinese Government has established a series of national SWH standards,three national testing centers,and a certification program to lay the foundation for the development of the Golden Sun product labeling system.China General Certification Center(CGC) developed the Golden Sun product certification and labeling system on a pass/fail basis evaluating with established criteria.The system was designed to help manufacturers acclimate to explicit consistent requirements and to identify and fix the deficiencies in the design and execution of the program itself.Timely revision and integration of the national standards are recommended to accommodate the test procedures and requirements to new technologies and the evolving SWH market.Strict implementation of the Golden Sun certification and labeling system are suggested to avail improving the quality control and forging internationally reputable brands of Chinese solar water heating products.展开更多

AIM: To investigate the use of the Gaumard's Noelle S550.100 Maternal and Neonatal Simulators for teaching forceps delivery.METHODS: Twenty two(n = 22) resident physicians were enrolled in a simulation course on o...AIM: To investigate the use of the Gaumard's Noelle S550.100 Maternal and Neonatal Simulators for teaching forceps delivery.METHODS: Twenty two(n = 22) resident physicians were enrolled in a simulation course on operative forceps deliveries. The physicians enrolled in the course were all part of an accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program and ranged in their training from post graduate year(PGY) 1-4. Each participant received simulation based teaching on the indications, contraindications, proper application, delivery and removal of forceps by a single teacher. The Gaumard's simulator and Simpson forceps were used for this course. Statistical analysis using SPSS statistical software was performed after the completion of the simulation training program. A paired student t-test was performed to compare the cohort's mean pretest and post simulation training scores. Follow up skills assessment scores at one month, 3 mo and 6 mo were compared to thebaseline pretest score using a paired student t-test. RESULTS: There was statistically significant improvement in the post simulation training performance evaluations compared to the pretest, 13.7(SD = 3.14) vs 7.9(SD = 4.92), P < 0.05. Scores at 1 mo, 3 mo, and 6 mo were compared to the pretest score and showed retention of skills: 4.6(SD = 5.5, 95%CI: 2.21-7.07), 4.4(SD = 5.2, 95%CI: 2.13-6.70), and 5.6(SD = 4.8, 95%CI: 3.53-7.75) points, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between residents by post graduate training year on pretest scores, however these differences were not present after simulation training. Pretest scores for PGY 1, 2, 3, 4 were 3.5(SD = 2.27, 95%CI: 2.13-5.00), 7.25(SD = 6.70, 95%CI: 1.50-13.00), 10.75(SD = 1.5, 95%CI: 9.50-12.00), 12.17(SD = 2.57, 95%CI: 10.33-14.00). After simulation training PGY 1 residents did as well as well as the upper level residents. Posttest mean test scores for PGY 1, 2, 3, 4 were 13.75(SD = 1.49, 95%CI: 12.75-14.63), 10.25(SD = 0.24, 95%CI: 4.25-14.00), 15.00(SD = 1.16, 95%CI: 14.00-16.00), 15.17(SD = 0.75, 95%CI: 14.67-15.67). CONCLUSION: Our simulation based training program not only produced short term gains, but participants were able to retain the skills learned and demonstrate their knowledge months later.展开更多

Traditionally, safety evaluation of cosmetics uses animal tests. With the development of in vitro science and the 3R (Reduction, Replacement and Refinement) principle, three-dimensional reconstructed human epidermis (3D-RHE) models have been developed and widely applied in cosmetic safety evaluation. Reconstructed human skin models possess anatomy and metabolism biology similar to real human tissue. This paper reviews the current application of 3D-RHE models in the safety evaluation of skin irritation, eye irritation, phototoxicity and genotoxicity potential of cosmetic ingredients/formulas. The advantages and disadvantages of using skin models are also discussed, and comments and suggestions are given for its future development.展开更多

The effect of immediate shaving and long-term shaving was compared, and more parameters such as skin integrity, pigmentation and texture were significantly influenced by long-term shaving. Sensory assessment also showed severer discomfort degree after long-term shaving. The results indicated that long-term shaving has more impact on skin condition than immediate shaving. Furthermore, the skin damage caused by shaving can be relieved by appropriate shaving care habits.展开更多

文摘China is the largest solar water heater producer and market in the world.Despite the fast growth and an installed capacity that accounts for the majority of the global gross,China's per capita solar hot water capacity is still very low,implying a huge margin of market potential;and the recognition of the industry in the global market is handicapped by the scattered scale of production and inconsistent product quality.To ensure continued growth of China's solar water heating(SWH) industry,Chinese Government has established a series of national SWH standards,three national testing centers,and a certification program to lay the foundation for the development of the Golden Sun product labeling system.China General Certification Center(CGC) developed the Golden Sun product certification and labeling system on a pass/fail basis evaluating with established criteria.The system was designed to help manufacturers acclimate to explicit consistent requirements and to identify and fix the deficiencies in the design and execution of the program itself.Timely revision and integration of the national standards are recommended to accommodate the test procedures and requirements to new technologies and the evolving SWH market.Strict implementation of the Golden Sun certification and labeling system are suggested to avail improving the quality control and forging internationally reputable brands of Chinese solar water heating products.

Based on the reasons of "small bank advantage", it discusses some issues to which banks and enterprises should pay attention in the relationship lending.
文摘AIM: To investigate the use of the Gaumard's Noelle S550.100 Maternal and Neonatal Simulators for teaching forceps delivery.METHODS: Twenty two(n = 22) resident physicians were enrolled in a simulation course on operative forceps deliveries. The physicians enrolled in the course were all part of an accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program and ranged in their training from post graduate year(PGY) 1-4. Each participant received simulation based teaching on the indications, contraindications, proper application, delivery and removal of forceps by a single teacher. The Gaumard's simulator and Simpson forceps were used for this course. Statistical analysis using SPSS statistical software was performed after the completion of the simulation training program. A paired student t-test was performed to compare the cohort's mean pretest and post simulation training scores. Follow up skills assessment scores at one month, 3 mo and 6 mo were compared to thebaseline pretest score using a paired student t-test. RESULTS: There was statistically significant improvement in the post simulation training performance evaluations compared to the pretest, 13.7(SD = 3.14) vs 7.9(SD = 4.92), P < 0.05. Scores at 1 mo, 3 mo, and 6 mo were compared to the pretest score and showed retention of skills: 4.6(SD = 5.5, 95%CI: 2.21-7.07), 4.4(SD = 5.2, 95%CI: 2.13-6.70), and 5.6(SD = 4.8, 95%CI: 3.53-7.75) points, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between residents by post graduate training year on pretest scores, however these differences were not present after simulation training. Pretest scores for PGY 1, 2, 3, 4 were 3.5(SD = 2.27, 95%CI: 2.13-5.00), 7.25(SD = 6.70, 95%CI: 1.50-13.00), 10.75(SD = 1.5, 95%CI: 9.50-12.00), 12.17(SD = 2.57, 95%CI: 10.33-14.00). After simulation training PGY 1 residents did as well as well as the upper level residents. Posttest mean test scores for PGY 1, 2, 3, 4 were 13.75(SD = 1.49, 95%CI: 12.75-14.63), 10.25(SD = 0.24, 95%CI: 4.25-14.00), 15.00(SD = 1.16, 95%CI: 14.00-16.00), 15.17(SD = 0.75, 95%CI: 14.67-15.67). CONCLUSION: Our simulation based training program not only produced short term gains, but participants were able to retain the skills learned and demonstrate their knowledge months later.

The development trends of China patent protection in daily chemical industry were analyzed including patent application trend, patent type and applicant type. As a leading enterprise, the patent protection situation of P&G was analyzed, which is significant for domestic enterprises. Finally, suggestions for China daily chemical industry were given according to the analysis results and experiences of the leading company from the perspective of patent protection.
文摘Cosmetic safety evaluation employs a series of toxicological tests, on both qualitative and quantitative levels, to assess the potential risks for the daily use of selected cosmetic ingredients and final products. Traditionally, safety evaluation of cosmetics uses animal tests. With the development of in vitro science and the 3R (Reduction, Replacement and Refinement) principle, three-dimensional reconstructed human epidermis (3D-RHE) models have been developed and widely applied in cosmetic safety evaluation. Reconstructed human skin models possess anatomy and metabolism biology similar to real human tissue. This paper reviews the current application of 3D-RHE models in the safety evaluation of skin irritation, eye irritation, phototoxicity and genotoxicity potential of cosmetic ingredients/formulas. The advantages and disadvantages of using skin models are also discussed, and comments and suggestions are given for its future development.
文摘Men's facial skin is ubiquitously affected by their shaving behaviors. Skin physiological parameters and the degree of discomfort were investigated on healthy Chinese male volunteers. The effect of immediate shaving and long-term shaving was compared, and more parameters such as skin integrity, pigmentation and texture were significantly influenced by long-term shaving. Sensory assessment also showed severer discomfort degree after long-term shaving. The results indicated that long-term shaving has more impact on skin condition than immediate shaving. Furthermore, the skin damage caused by shaving can be relieved by appropriate shaving care habits.

At last, the currently existing evaluation methods of physical sun-screening slurry stability were also illustrated.
