However the aim of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of studying the morphological categories, using the geometric attributes of the shape of places, facilitating the development of three-dimensional view of the architects, in particular for students of architecture. This article is part of the Project "Education of the Eye" which introduces the training of the eye as a strategy to understand the architectural forms characterizing the volumetric space (architectural, urban and landscaping), through the polyhedra and their relationships. It is linked to the research line Teaching of Architecture Graduate Program in Architecture -- PROARQ-FAU/UFRJ. The investigation of the way in this direction, interacts with the knowledge produced by the groups SEL-RJ -- Research Group on Systems of Open Spaces in Rio de Janeiro, ProLUGAR -- Design and Quality of Place and EAG-Education-Environment Group.展开更多

An essential step for the realization of free-form surface structures is to create an efficient structural gird that satisfies not only the architectural aesthetics,but also the structural performance.Employing the ma...An essential step for the realization of free-form surface structures is to create an efficient structural gird that satisfies not only the architectural aesthetics,but also the structural performance.Employing the main stress trajectories as the representation of force flows on a free-form surface,an automatic grid generation approach is proposed for the architectural design.The algorithm automatically plots the main stress trajectories on a 3D free-form surface,and adopts a modified advancing front meshing technique to generate the structural grid.Based on the proposed algorithm,an automatic grid generator named "St-Surmesh" is developed for the practical architectural design of free-form surface structure.The surface geometry of one of the Sun Valleys in Expo Axis for the Expo Shanghai 2010 is selected as a numerical example for validating the proposed approach.Comparative studies are performed to demonstrate how different structural grids affect the design of a free-form surface structure.展开更多
Immersed boundary method is a crucial method to deal with particle suspension flow.Particle shapes involved in such flow are usually simple geometry,such as sphere and ellipsoid,which can be conveniently represented b...Immersed boundary method is a crucial method to deal with particle suspension flow.Particle shapes involved in such flow are usually simple geometry,such as sphere and ellipsoid,which can be conveniently represented by the triangular surface grid.When the number of particles and resolution of the surface grid increase,calculating the hydrodynamic force on the particle surface through integration can be time-consuming.Hence,the present paper establishes a fast mapping method to evaluate immersed boundary hydrodynamic force.Firstly,the particle surface grid is generated by an initial triangular element grid.Subsequently,the initial surface grid is refined by bisection refinement to the desired resolution.The final step is to find the triangular element index on the particle triangular surface grid,which contains the projective point.Test cases show that the present mapping algorithm has good accuracy and efficiency for calculating hydrodynamic forces of particles.展开更多

Theoretical,...Due to the property of water repellence, biomimetic superhydrophobic surfaces have been widely applied to green technologies, in turn inducing wider and deeper investigations on superhydrophobic surfaces. Theoretical, experimental and numerical studies on wetting transitions have been carried out by researchers, but the mechanism of wetting transitions between Cassie-Baxter state and Wenzel state, which is crucial to develop a stable superhydrophobic surface, is still not fully understood. In this paper, the flee energy curves based on the transition processes are presented and discussed in detail. The exis- tence of energy barriers with or without consideration of the gravity effect, and the irreversibility of wet- ting transition are discussed based on the presented energy curves. The energy curves show that different routes of the Cassie-to-Wenzel transition and the reverse transition are the main reason for the irre- versibility. Numerical simulations are implemented via a phase field lattice Boltzmann method of large density ratio, and the simulation results show good consistency with the theoretical analysis.展开更多
