The 2D potential distribution functions in the active layer of the devices are obtained through solving the 2D Poisson's equation. The minimum of the potential at the oxide-Si layer interface is used to monitor the threshold voltage of the SOI MOSFETs. This model is verified by its excellent agreement with MEDICI simulation using SOI MOSFETs with different gate lengths, gate oxide thicknesses, silicon film thicknesses, and channel doping concentrations.展开更多

The genesis of typhoon Durian which formed in the monsoon trough was reproduced by numerical simulations. The simulated results agree reasonably well with observations. Two numerical experiments in which the sea surface temperature (SST) was either decreased or increased were performed to investigate the impact of the SST on the genesis of the ty-phoon. When the SST was decreased by 5℃ uniformly for all grids in the model, the winds calculated became divergent in the lower troposphere and convergent in the upper troposphere, creating conditions in which the amount of total latent heat release (TLHR) was low and the tropical cyclone (TC) could not be formed. This simulation shows the importance of the convergence in the lower tropo-sphere and the divergence in the upper troposphere for the genesis of the initial vortex. When the SST was increased by 1℃ uni-formly for all grids,a stronger typhoon was generated in the results with an increase of about 10 m s-1 in the maximum surface wind speed. Only minor differences in intensity were noted during the first 54 h in the simulation with the warmer SST,but apparent dif-ferences in intensity occurred after 54 h when the vortex began to strengthen to typhoon strength. This experiment shows that warmer SST will speed the strengthening from tropical storm strength to typhoon strength and increase the maximum intensity reached, while only minor impact can be seen during the earlier stage of genesis before the TC reaches the tropical storm strength. The results sug-gest that the amount of TLHR may be the dominant factor in determining the formation and the intensification of the TC.展开更多

It was found that: (1) slopes were shattered and damaged during the earthquake and open tension cracks formed on the tops of the slopes; (2) the upper parts of slopes collapsed and slid, while the lower parts remained basically intact, indicating that the upper parts of slopes would be damaged more heavily than the lower parts during an earthquake. Large-scale shaking table model tests were conducted to study failure behavior of slopes under the Wenchuan seismic wave, which reproduced the process of deformation and failure of slopes. Tension cracks emerged at the top and upper part of model, while the bottom of the model remained intact, consistent with field investigations. Depth of the tension crack at the top of model is 32 cm, i.e., 3.2 m compared to the prototype natural slope with a height of 14 m when the length scale ratio (proto/model) is lo. Acceleration at the top of the slope was almost twice as large as that at the toe when the measured accelerations on shaking table are 4.85 m/s2 and 6.49 m/s2, which means that seismic force at the top of the slope is twice the magnitude of that at the toe. By use of the dynamic-strength-reduction method, numerical simulation was conducted to explore the process and mechanism of formation of the sliding surface, with other quantified information. The earthquake-induced failure surfaces commonly consist of tension cracks and shear zones. Within 5 mfrom the top of the slope, the dynamic sliding surface will be about 1 m shallower than the pseudo-static sliding surface in a horizontal direction when the peak ground acceleration (PGA) is 1 m/s2; the dynamic sliding surface will be about 2 m deeper than the pseudo-static sliding surface in a horizontal direction when the PGA is lo m/sL and the depths of the dynamic sliding surface and the pseudo-static sliding surface will be almost the same when the PGA is 2 m/s2. Based on these findings, it is suggested that the key point of anti-seismic design, as well as for mitigation of post-earthquake, secondary mountain hazards, is to prevent tension cracks from forming in the upper part of the slope. Therefore, the depth of tension cracks in slope surfaces is the key to reinforcement of slopes. The depth of the sliding surface from the pseudo-static method can be a reference for slope reinforcement mitigation.展开更多

But, in studies on Zn adsorption in the complicated soil system, especially in variable charge soils, profound knowledge about the adsorption mechanism still lacks. In this paper, taking Zn ion adsorption by two typical variable charge soils as the object of the study, author discusses the relation between Zn adsorption and pH and possible adsorption mechanisms. The results showed that in the low pH range where the amount of Zn adsorbed did not exceed 50% of Zn added, the specific adsorption was the dominant mechanism. The species of Zn specifically adsorbed was free Zn2+ ion. In the middle and high pH ranges, the mechanisms of specific and electrostatic adsorptions, co-existed, accounting for about 70% and 30% , respectively. Digital images of expansive soil of the surface fissure with different moisture contents were analyzed with the binarization statistic method. In addition, the fissure fractal dimension was computed with a self-compiled program. Combined with in situ seepage and loading plate tests, the relationship among the surface fissure ratio, moisture content, seepage coefficient and deformation modulus was initially established. The surface fissure ratio and moisture content show a linear relation, "y=-0.019 1x+1.028 5" for rufous expansive soil and "y=-0.07 1x+2.610 5" for grey expansive soil. Soil initial seepage coefficient and surface fissure ratio show a power function relation, "y=1× 10^-9exp(15.472x)" for rufous expansive soil and "y=5× 10^-7exp(4.209 6x)" for grey expansive soil. Grey expansive soil deformation modulus and surface fissure ratio show a power fimction relation of "y=3.935 7exp(0.993 6x)". Based on the binarization and fractal dimension methods, the results show that the surface fissure statistics can depict the fissure distribution in the view of two dimensions. And the evolvement behaviors of permeability and the deformation modulus can indirectly describe the developing state of the fissure. The analysis reflects that the engineering behaviors of unsaturated expansive soil are objectively influenced by fissure.展开更多

The amplitude of vibration acceleration increased with the increasing radial depth up to 80 mm. And the domain vibration frequency varied with the radial depth. In this paper, three types of chips were found: C shape, long shape and spiral shape. The minimum surface roughness value occurred when the radial depth equalled 40 mm in the experiment. Irregular changes of chip curl radius and chip thickness could be attributed to different numbers of alternately engaged teeth when the feed and speed were fixed. Surface roughness is related to forced vibration and chip formation. Radial depth with different numbers of alternately engaged teeth could significantly influence the forced vibration, chip formation, and surface roughness.展开更多

In the present work, surface diurnal warming strength in the East China Sea was calculated by the sea surface temperature(SST) data derived from the MODIS sensors carried by the satellites Aqua and Terra. Due to transit time difference, both the number of valid data and the surface diurnal warming strength computed by the MODIS-Aqua data are relatively larger than Terra. Therefore, the 10-year MODIS-Aqua data from 2005 to 2014 were used to analyze the monthly variability of the surface diurnal warming. Generally, the surface diurnal warming in the East China sea is stronger in summer and autumn but weaker in winter and spring, while it shows different peaks in different regions. Large events with ΔT≥5 K have also been discussed. They were found mainly in coastal area, especially near the Changjiang(Yangtze) River estuary. And there exists a high-incidence period from April to July. Furthermore, the relationship between surface diurnal warming and wind speed was discussed. Larger diurnal warming mainly lies in areas with low wind speed. And its possibility decreases with the increase of wind speed. Events with ΔT ≥2.5 K rarely occur when wind speed is over 12 m/s. Study on surface diurnal warming in the East China Sea may help to understand the daily scale air-sea interaction in the shelf seas. A potential application might be in the marine weather forecasts by numerical models. Its impact on the coastal eco-system and the activities of marine organisms can also be pursued.展开更多

Several evaluation parameters of surfaces ranging from amplitude to functional parameters are studied. Numerical and experimental results are in good agreements. The accuracy of estimating tip radius on random rough surface with Ganssian distribution of heights using a blind reconstruction method is also discussed theoretically. It is found that the accuracy is greatly depending on the ratio of actual tip radius to root-mean-square (rms) radius of curvature. To obtain an accurate estimation of tip radius under Gaussian rough surface, the ratio has to be larger than 3/2.展开更多

Methods: Thirteen male recreational runners were required to run at 12 km/h velocity on concrete, synthetic track, natural grass, a normal treadmill, and a treadmill equipped with an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) cushioning underlay (treadmill_EVA), respectively. An in-shoe plantar pressure system and an accelerometer attached to the tibial tuberosity were used to record and analyze the characteristics of plantar pressure and tibial impact during running. Results: The results showed that there were no significant differences in the 1 st and 2nd peak plantar pressures (time of occurrence), pressure-time integral, and peak pressure distribution for the concrete, synthetic, grass, and normal treadmill surfaces. No significant differences in peak positive acceleration were observed among the five tested surface conditions. Compared to the concrete surface, however, running on treadmillEVA showed a significant decrease in the 1st peak plantar pressure and the pressure time integral for the impact phase (p 〈 0.05). These can be further ascribed to a reduced peak pressure observed at heel region (p 〈 0.05). Conclusion: There may not be an inevitable relationship between the surface and the lower-limb impact in runners. It is, however, still noteworthy that the effects of different treadmill surfaces should be considered in the interpretation of plantar pressure performance and translation of such results to overground running.展开更多

Both interannual and interdecadal patterns are found to be seasonally and spatially dependent, with reanalyses and satellite remote sensing data yielding highly consistent results. The study reveals that summer monsoon winds over the East China Sea experienced an interdecadal weakening in the late 1960s and began a persistent recovery in 2005. The study also shows gradual weakening of the winter monsoon in the southern South China Sea by more than 2m/s since the 1960s, with corroboration from coastal climate stations in Borneo. This phenomenon has not been reported in previous monsoon studies.展开更多

The adsorption amount of phosphate and the maximum phosphate adsorption pH decreased in the order of yellow-red soil > lateritic red soil > red soil > paddy soil, which was coincided with the content order of amorphous Al oxide. The removement of organic matter and Fe oxide made the maximum phosphate adsorption pH rise from 4.0 to 5.0 and 4.5, respectively. The desorption curves with pH of four soils showed that phosphate desorbed least at pH 5. Generally the desorption was contrary to the adsorption with pH changing. There was a good accordance between adsorption or desorption and the concentration of Al in the suspension. The possible mechanisms of phosphate adsorption are discussed.展开更多

A set of numerical simulations was conducted,(1) with and without rotation,(2) at different latitudes(10°N, 30°N, 45°N, 60°N, and 80°N),(3) with wave breaking and with Langmuir circulation, and(4) under different wind speeds(5, 10, 20, and 30 m/s). The results show that eddy viscosity decreases when rotation is included, indicating that rotation weakens the turbulence strength. The TKE budget become tight with rotation and the effects of rotation grow with latitude. However, rotation become less important under Langmuir circulation since the transport term is strong in the vertical direction. Finally, simulations were conducted based on field data from the Boundary Layer and Air-Sea Transfer Low Wind(CBLAST-Low) experiment. The results, although more complex, are consistent with the results obtained from earlier simulations using ideal numerical conditions.展开更多

Specific surface area, RC and pH were measured and the activated carbon was used to absorb the orange II dye. Adsorption equilibrium was also studied, and it was found that the adsorption process on the synthetic activated carbon fit very well with the Langmuir isotherm model and less fit with Freundlich isotherm model. The specific surface area was highly affected by increasing temperature of combustion while the atmosphere of combustion had a little effects on surface area. The results showed that the atmosphere and temperature had no such effect on RC values. However, the RC of zinc chloride samples gave the highest values compared to that of cadmium chloride or sodium chlorides. The values of pH indicated an acid medium for cadmium chloride to alkali medium for sodium chloride, while the samples of zinc chloride showed a neutral medium.展开更多

The results sug-gest that the amount of TLHR may be the dominant factor in determining the formation and the intensification of the TC.

文摘Earthquake-induced landslides along the Dujiangyan-Yingxiu highway after the Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 were investigated. The depth of the sliding surface from the pseudo-static method can be a reference for slope reinforcement mitigation.

文摘This paper studies the influence of radial depth on vibration, chip formation and surface roughness during face milling of AISl3O4 austenitic stainless steel with indexable cemented carbide milling cutters. Radial depth with different numbers of alternately engaged teeth could significantly influence the forced vibration, chip formation, and surface roughness.

文摘Influences of tip radius and sampling interval on applying atomic force microscopy (AFM) in quantitative surface evaluations are investigated by numerical simulations and experiments. To obtain an accurate estimation of tip radius under Gaussian rough surface, the ratio has to be larger than 3/2.

文摘A self-made constant pH automated titration instrument was used to study thekinetics of hydroxyl release during selenite reacting with variable charge soils. The rate ofhydroxyl release was very rapid at the first several minutes, then gradually slowed down, and atlast did not change any more. The experimental data was well fitted by the Langmuir kineticequation, arid with increasing selenite concentration or decreasing solution pH, the reaction lastedlonger, the maximum of hydroxyl release (x_m) increased, and the binding constant (k) decreased. The time of hydroxyl release with Xuwen latosol was much longer than that with Jinxian red soil.

文摘Purpose: This study aims to explore the effects of running on different surfaces on the characteristics of in-shoe plantar pressure and tibial acceleration. It is, however, still noteworthy that the effects of different treadmill surfaces should be considered in the interpretation of plantar pressure performance and translation of such results to overground running.

文摘Long term variability in the surface winds over the marginal seas of China is examined with a dominant-mode singular value decomposition method. This phenomenon has not been reported in previous monsoon studies.

文摘The study about the adsorption of phosphate on four variable charge soils and some minerals revealed that two stage adsorption appeared in the adsorption isotherms of phosphate on 4 soils and there was a maximum adsorption on Al-oxide-typed surfaces between pH 3.5 to pH 5.5 as suspension pH changed from 2 to 9, but the adsorption amount of phosphate decreased continually as pH rose on Fe-oxide typed surfaces. The possible mechanisms of phosphate adsorption are discussed.

文摘A non-hydrostatic, Boussinesq, and three-dimensional large eddy simulation(LES) model was used to study the impact of the Earth's rotation on turbulence and the redistribution of energy in turbulence kinetic energy(TKE) budget. The results, although more complex, are consistent with the results obtained from earlier simulations using ideal numerical conditions.
文摘A synthetic activated carbon was manufactured from date-palm stones using zinc chloride, cadmium chloride and sodium chloride at different temperatures and atmospheres. The values of pH indicated an acid medium for cadmium chloride to alkali medium for sodium chloride, while the samples of zinc chloride showed a neutral medium.

文摘The surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagating in a sample of steel is simulated by using finite element method (FEM). The waves are excited by a load function with propagation properties such as phase velocity disper- sion and wide bandwidth. A two-dimensional model consisting of surface defects loaded with a wideband 50--200 M Hz and short time 0.1 gs displacement function is investigated in the time and frequency domains. By transient dy- namic analysis, Fourier transform and dispersion calculation, snapshots of propagating wave and responses from sens- ing points are presented. It is indicated that this supervision approach is sensitive to the surface cracks and reflections.
