For very high temperature annealing (1620℃) after ion implantation for 4H silicon carbide (4H SiC),the residual components of Al and O in the alundum furnace impact seriously on the surface of material,which yields the derivation of SiOC.This causes a significant degradation of the 4H SiC surface characteristics according to the results of surface composition analysis.As validity,Ni/SiC ohmic contact measurement illustrates a higher specific contact resistance than the normal value by a factor of 2~3.Consequently the MESFET fabricated with this kind of 4H SiC material results in a degraded I V output performance compared with that of normal 4H SiC MESFET. 展开更多

Sorption of carbon tetrachloride (CT) by zero-valent iron (ZVI) is the rate-limiting step in the degradation of CT, so the sorption capacity of ZVl is of great importance. This experiment was aimed at enhancing the sorption of CT by ZVI and the degradation rate of CT by modification of surfactants. This study showed that ZVI modified by cationic surfactants has favorable synergistic effect on the degradation of CT. The CT degradation rate of ZVI modified by cetyl pyridinium bromide (CPB) was higher than that of the unmodified ZVI by 130%, and the CT degradation rate of ZVI modified by cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) was higher than that of the unmodified ZVI by 81%. This study also showed that the best degradation effect is obtained at the near critical micelle concentrations (CMC) and that high loaded cationic surfactant does not have good synergistic effect on the degradation due to its hydrophilicity and the block in surface reduction sites. Furthermore degradation of CT by ZVI modified by nonionic surfactant has not positive effect on the degradation as the ionic surfactant and the ZVI modified by anionic surfactant has hardly any obvious effects on the degradation. 展开更多

The effect of surface finish and annealing treatment on the oxidation behavior of Ti-48Al-8Cr-2Ag (molar fraction, %) alloy was investigated at 900 and 1 000 ℃, respectively in air. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted for the characterization of oxidation kinetics. The microstructures of oxide scales were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission election microscopy (TEM) techniques. Unfavorable effect of the annealing treatment on the oxidation behavior of the coating was also investigated. The results indicate that the oxidation behavior of the alloy is influenced by surface finish and annealing treatment. The oxidation rate of ground sample is lower than that of the polished alloy at 1 000 ℃ in air. The former forms a scale of merely Al2O3, and the latter forms a scale of the mixture of Al2O3 and TiO2. Annealing can improve the formation of TiO2. 展开更多

The aim of this research was to find out whether the effect of chemical corrosion changes mechanical characteristics of surface layers of wooden construction elements. Degradation of the surface layers of wood was caused by chemical reactions of the basic substances of wood mass with compounds contained in antifire coatings. Fire retardants containing corrosive substances were often and repeatedly used in the Czech Republic on many wooden building constructions. This process of chemical corrosion is in practise called as "surface defibering of wood". This contribution presents standard and special experimental methods used for measuring the selected mechanical characteristics (compression strength, tension strength, bending strength, hardness and impact resistance) in the damaged surface layer of wooden construction elements. The material for experimental measuring was a construction element removed from a historical roof (ca 150 years old). Mechanical characteristics of the surface layer of the defibered element were compared with the values measured in the deeper subsurface layer of non-damaged wood. The results of the experiments proved loss of cohesive strength and decrease of mechanical characteristics of wood only in a thin surface layer. 展开更多
