The current distributions over carbon steel under iron red alkyd primer exposed to 3.5% sodium chloride solution were mapped using the wire beam electrode (WBE). The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of the WBE was carded out to analyze the performance of coating delamination and corrosion behavior of carbon steel beneath defective coating. The EIS data revealed that protective capability of coating decreased with immersion time and the degree of cathodic delamination showed a rapid rise. The current density distribution of WBE indicated that cathodic sites was located at the defect at the beginning of immersion and gradually spread into the intact coating. The cathodic regions were distinguished from the anodic area and distributed over the WBE. The changes of cathodic sites could reflect the deterioration process of defective coating. The cathodic area ratio was a more useful parameter than the cathodic delamination degree to evaluate the coating cathodic delamination. The polarity reversals of electrodes at the defect and beneath coating were observed. A simple discussion of relationship between the blister and the polarity reversal was made from a standpoint of electrochemical distribution. WBE method was able to map and record the changes of local cathodic sites beneath defective coating in real time, which could provide more detailed information about the local degradation of coating. 展开更多

In order to obtain a high-performance surface on P110 steel that can meet the requirements in oil/gas field environment, the chromium coatings were fabricated by pack cementation. The chromium coatings differed in with/without the addition of La2O3. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and microhardness tester were employed to investigate the surface morphologies, surface element distributions, microstructures, phase constitutions and microhardness of the coatings. Friction-wear tests of the P110 steel substrate and the coatings were conducted in air at ambient temperature and humidity. The results show that 'uniform and continuous coatings are formed on P110 steel regardless of adding La2O3 or not. The chromium coatings consist of Cr23C6, Cr7C3, and (Cr, Fe)7C3. The La2O3-added chromium coating is more beneficial in terms of surface morphology, microstructure, thickness and microharduess as compared with the coating without adding La2O3. Chromizing treatment significantly improves the surface hardness and wear resistance of the P110 steel. The wear resistance of the tested samples can be sorted in the following sequence: La2O3-coating 〉 no RE-coating 〉bare P110 steel. 展开更多

Modification of nanometer calcium carbonate for water-borne architectural coatings 被引量:2

A kind of modifier was synthesized to modify the surface of nanometer calcium carbonate (abbreviated as nano-CaCO3), which is used in architectural coatings. The modification technology of the nano-CaCO3 was studied through orthogonal experimental methods. The factors studied were rotation speed, modifier dosage, emulsification temperature, emulsification time and heat aging time after emulsification. Optimized conditions for modification of the surface were: rotation speed 16000 r/min; modifier dosage 3%; emulsification temperature 75 ℃; emulsification time 60 min and aging time 40 min. The modified nano-CaCO3 was also studied by size-distribution measurements, transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis. The results show that the size distribution of the modified nano-CaCO3 is uniform and that there are chemi-sorption and physi-sorption between the nano-CaCO3 and the modifier. Compared to traditional architectural coatings without nano-CaCO3, the nanometer composite coatings are obviously improved in respect to dirt resistance, scrub resistance, thixotropy, water resistance, alkalinity resistance and aging resistance. 展开更多

Self-assembled nano-phase silane-based particle coating was prepared through sol-gel technique.Tetramethoxysilane and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane were used as precursors for the self-assembled sol-gel coatings.The silane colloidal particle size was analyzed by laser particle size measurement.The results indicate that the particle size is in nano-scale and the diameter of particles deceases with increasing dilution times.Gel permeation chromatography proves that the relative molecular mass of macromolecule in a referenced sol solution is 1220-1240 amu.A simulation model was proposed to study the siloxane structure.Fourier transform infrared spectra of solution and film prove the disappearing of epoxy bond.The results of solid-state 13C and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance experiments indicate the formation of Si-O-Si network.Potentiodynamic analysis shows that the self-assembled coating has excellent corrosion resistance.Salt fog tests prove that 2-methyl piperidine as inhibitor significantly improves the corrosion resistance of the self-assembled coating. 展开更多

For more objective rust defect recognition, digital image recognition methods have been developed for the past few years and they are expected to replace or complement conventional painting inspection methods. Efficient image processing methods are also essential for the successful implementation of steel bridge coating warranty contracting where the owner, usually a state agency, and the contractor inspect steel bridge coating conditions regularly and decide whether additional maintenance actions are needed based on the processed data. There are two approaches to develop automated rust defect recognition methods: applying a statistical method or an artificial intelligence technique. This paper presents the application of previously developed image processing methods for defect evaluations on a bridge coating surface and discusses their limitations under three environmental conditions which are often encountered while acquiring digital images. 展开更多

A computational fluid dynamics code was applied to calculate the flow field and the droplet trajectories. Droplet size distributions and droplet velocities as necessary inlet characteristics for the simulations were experimentally obtained using a Spraytec Fraunhofer type particle sizer and laser-Doppler anemometry. The aim of this study is to examine and present the results of the scientific examinations carried out on the ground layers with paint samples collected from the decorated surfaces of the wooden coffin dated back to the late period from Saqqara excavation that belonged to the Ministry of Antiquities. Many analytical methods were performed as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (ESEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction analysis as well as fourier transform infrared spectroscopy have been used to both characterise the inorganic composition and the binding media used. The analytical results showed that the materials composition and technique used to plaster applied on the wooden surface are in good agreement with the information gathered through the historical survey. The coffin was in bad and poor condition. There was cracking on the surface and in the structure, serious flaking, cupping of some pigments and serious damage in both the wooden support and gesso layer. Conservation treatment processes carried out included consolidation of lifting areas of the paint film, disturbing restoration materials, repair of cracks in the wooden support and a dry surface cleaning of the pigments. 展开更多

Solar Collectors of Buildings Facade Based on Aluminum Heat Pipes with Colored Coating

A variety of liquid thermal solar collectors designs used for water heating have been developed by the previous researchers. But the majority of them do not meet the requirements on small weight, easy assembling and installing, versatility, scalability and adaptability of the design, which are particularly important when they are facade integrated. In order to avoid the above mentioned drawbacks of the liquid thermal collectors, the authors propose to apply to them extruded aluminum alloy made heat pipes of originally designed cross-sectional profile with wide fins and longitudinal grooves. Such solar collectors could be a good solution for building facade and roof integration, because they are assembled of several standard and independent, hermetically sealed and light-weight modules, easy mounted and "dry" connected to the main pipeline. At that, their thermal performances are not worse than of the other known ones made of heavier and more expensive copper with higher thermal conductance, or having entire rigid designs. Some variants of the developed solar collectors shaping of the assembled modules for building facade or roof integration are proposed. Variously colored coatings to the absorbers are developed and made of carbon-siliceous nano-composites by means of sol-gel method. Their optical performances were compared with "anodized black". It is stated that colored coatings have a good prospect in thermal SCs (solar collectors) adaptation to building facades decoration, but the works on study and upgrade of their performances should be continued. 展开更多
