A total of 972 diabetes mellitus patients who had attended Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) from 2005 to 2006 were involved in the study. The significant findings include: (1) Mean age of diabetes patients under the study was 44.36 years old; (2) The average age of patients from control group and pre-diabetes group which came from the middle-age were 44.30 and 42.43 years old respectively. Patients from diabetes group had recorded the highest mean age of 53.24 years old which are the elderly; (3) There was a significant difference in the average blood sugar between patient age group of〈30 years old and patient age group of〉30 years old. However, there was no significant difference in the mean blood sugar between male and female patients; (4) There were significant associations between diabetes mellitus and gender, occupation and clinical symptoms such as tired, polyuria and polydipsia. However, there was no significant association between diabetes mellitus and polyphagia symptoms. The authors believed that the symptoms ofpolyuria and polydipsia were highly associated with the chances of the patients to get diabetes mellitus.展开更多

The objective of this study is to identify the profile factors related to life quality and cardiovascular risk on medical students of a private university in Brazil. Methods: This study is based on a descriptive analysis of cross-sectional cohort of a sample of 490 students from the first to sixth year of medical school. The data were collected through an anonymous questionnaire. Results: Some of the data were: 81.6% of students reported alcohol ingestion, 5.9% are smokers and 13.9% reported use of illicit drugs, 27.9% informed adding salt to the food, 78.4% reported stress/anxiety. Conclusion: After observing all the collected data, a project was built for a longitudinal analysis of the influence of life style during the medical school years on mental and cardiovascular health, short and long term.展开更多

The indoor air quality and thermal comfort were measured at various selected locations by using indoor air quality equipment (Thermal Comfort SERI). The thermal comfort assessments are based on Malaysian Code of Practice Indoor Air Quality 2005 and Moderate Thermal Environments-Determination of the PMV and PPD indices specification of the condition for thermal comfort (ISO7730:1994) From the data analysis, the FKAB building is considered inadequately vented space. The concentration of CO2 for all sampling area evaluated exceeds the recommended concentration (〉 1000 ppm). The ventilation system used in FKAB building is designed by delivering fix amount of fresh air into building from external building without consideration on the number of occupants. This common ventilation design will increase the amount of CO2 dramatically all day long and these reflect the inefficiency of energy used. The faculty needs to be equipped with a comprehensive energy management system that can allow detailed documentation of continuous performance of all energy system and consumption in the building.展开更多

The study is exploratory, descriptive, and qualitative type, such as a survey, developed through an adaptation of a relevant research, which involves the standardization of data collection instruments (questionnaires and interviews) applied directly to persons of a specific population, to assess knowledge management tools present in the University Hospital portals in the northeast region of Brazil. The results indicated that the resources from knowledge access were more prevalent than the others, ratifying the results found in research developed in Asian and North American Hospital portals.展开更多
