PS analytical mercury analyzer was used to continuously determine Hg0re-emission concentrations in the carrier gas from the scrubber.Sulfite ion in the slurry of CaSO3 was validated to reduce Hg ^2+to Hg^ 0,while no Hg ^0 re-emission occurred from slurries of CaSO4 and CaO.Transitional metal ions with low chemical valence such as Fe^2 +,Pb ^2+,Ni ^2+, AsO2^-and Cu ^+were used to prepare solutions with concentration levels of mmol·L^-1.Reduction reaction of Hg^2 +to Hg 0was observed from these solutions.Reduction capabilities for the different transitional metal ions in the solutions were:Pb^2 +〉Cu ^+〉Fe^ 2+〉 AsO2^-〉Ni ^2+.展开更多

We typically observe an angular swing of up to 10°as the input wavelength is changed from 1290 nm to 1310 rim, which signifies an angular dispersion of 0.5°/am ("Superprism" phenomenon). Such a strong angular dispersion is of the order required for WDM systems. By tuning the incident angle, light beams with up to 20° divergence were collimated over a 25 nm (1285 nm to 1310 nm) bandwidth using a triangular lattice ("Supercollimator" phenomenon). The wavelength collimating range can be extended from 25 nm to 40 nm by changing the lattice from triangular to square. These two devices can be realized in the same configuration, simply by tuning the wavelength. Sources of loss are discussed.展开更多

Two distinct modes of loadings, such as, direct shear and pullout loadings on flexible and rigid reinforcements are implemented by the multiple functionalities of the apparatus through the use of single loading frame, dividing mechanism, instrumentation and data acquisition systems. The design is similar to the conventional apparatus; however, it includes some key modifications to adapt additional features of reinforcements. For the pullout test, the top half of the pullout box is fixed with the bottom half of the pullout box, while for the direct shear test, the top half is allowed to slide horizontally on low friction roller bearings connected to the driving mechanism. Mechanical loadings through a steel plate are used to apply the normal load in the pullout and direct shear apparatus. A series of shear and pullout tests are performed to validate the functionality of the apparatus and to examine relationships between the reinforcements and its shear and pullout resistances.展开更多

The proposed method involves the mathematical programming techniques to seek the regression coefficients for the calibration model calculation. It is based on the optimization theory used for finding the extremum of the objective function in the given domain of a vector space and employs the method of the complementarity problems solving. The MPM algorithm is described in detail. The MPM was tested on an InfraLUM FT-10 NIR analyzer of Lumex company with samples of dry milk (for fat), corn (for protein) and rye flour (for moisture). The obtained results show that the MPM can be used for constructing multivariate calibrations with the qualitative characteristics superior over those of the classical PCR and PLS methods of analysis.展开更多

Results indicated that both Mg2+ and Ca2+ accelerated the sludge-granulation process and increased the amount of polysaccharides and proteins in the sludge. Energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry(EDX) analysis revealed that, in a mature granule, both Mg2+ and Ca2+ composed as phosphate and calcium was distributed primarily in the periphery of the granule, while magnesium distributed mainly in the interior. The addition of Mg2+ was more favorable for the nuclei formation, whereas the addition of Ca2+ was more favorable for subgranule growth and maintaining the granules' rigid structure. Results showed that the addition of Mg2+ in the nuclei formation stage and Ca2+ in the granule-growth stage accelerated granulation more than adding only one of them in the granulation process.展开更多
