Among the human users of the Internet of Things,the hearing-impaired is a special group of people for whom normal information expression forms,such as voice and video are unaccessible,and most of them have some difficulty in understanding information in text form.The hearing-impaired are accustomed to receiving information expressed in sign language.For this situation,a new information expression form for the Internet of Things oriented toward the hearing-impaired is proposed in this paper,and the new expression is based on sign language video synthesis.Under the sign synthesis frame,three modules are necessary:constructing database,searching for appropriate sign language video units and transition units,and generating interpolated frames.With this method,text information could be transformed into sign language expression for the hearing-impaired. 展开更多

In this paper, we focus our grammar studies on two early Cantonese literature contexts: Huajian Ji (花菚記, 1714) and Yue Ou (粤謳, 1820). Two aspect markers, the experience aspect marker "gwo 過" and the duration aspect marker "dzy 住", in these two Cantonese books show different characteristics from oral Cantonese today. "Gwo", mostly used as an aspect marker of"experience" and "repeat" in verbal expression, had the usage of"unhappened experience" in the old books as a connection between this two aspects. Every step of "dzy"'s grammarlization process was clearly recorded in the written materials. By comparing with the aspect markers in Mandarin Chinese, the usage of the completion aspect marker "liu 了" found in these two books was also discussed. We argue the importance of literature context in diachronical grammar studies of dialect. 展开更多

Most of modern systems for information retrieval, fusion and management have to deal with more and more qualitative information (by linguistic labels) besides information expressed quantitatively (by numbers), since human reports are better and easier expressed in natural language than with numbers. In this paper, Herrera-Martfnez's 2-Tuple linguistic representation model is extended for reasoning with uncertain and qualitative information in Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT) framework, in order to overcome the limitations of current approaches, i.e., the lack of precision in the final results of linguistic information fusion according to 1-Tuple representation ( q1 )- The linguistic information which expresses the expert's qualitative beliefs is expressed by means of mixed 2 Tuples (equidistant linguistic labels with a numeric biased value). Together with the 2-Tuple representation model, some basic operators are presented to carry out the fusion operation among qualitative information sources. At last, through simple example how 2-Tuple qualitative DSmT-based (q2 DSmT) fusion rules can be used for qualitative reasoning and fusion under uncertainty, which advantage is also showed by comparing with other methods. 展开更多

In the present study, some junior students of the English major were asked to verbalize or write their thoughts after interpreting. Besides, students' errors were also identified through observations by the researchers. As a result some of the mistakes made by students were found: lacking humor and variety in their interpreting, little vocabulary and variation in expression, etc.. Reasons were also analyzed which included that students were generally not familiar with some of the often-used sentence patterns for tour guide interpretation, and teachers are not using the suitable ways of teaching tour guide interpreting. To conclude, ways to solve these problems were recommended for readers' reference. 展开更多

This study intends to compare and contrast love expressions used by American and Chinese university students. The participants of 40 university students, including American male university students, American female university students, Chinese male university students, and Chinese female university students, were selected randomly. Each of them was given one questionnaire. There was an introductory question, which aimed at finding out whether the participants would choose to express their love in verbal or written language, and if they would, how they would express it. Then the participants were channeled into the four different parts. Results showed that male university students of both nations were more eager to express their love and also had less constraints and pressure compared with their female counterparts did. American university students of both genders were more open and direct when they expressed their love, whereas Chinese university students of both genders were more reserved and tended to express their love indirectly. 展开更多

Adorno suggests that art is an essentially expressive language since it is the imitation of natural language. Adorno's language thought is derived from Benjamin's extensive language theory in which Benjamin claims that all things including human being have languages. The telos of art's expression is expressing what the repressed things and human long for speaking. The authentic art preserves the trace of primordial human's instinct: mimesis. Through the subject miming the object in the expression of art, the real cognition is realized. According to this model, we can ascertain that artist is the real epistemological subject, the "collective subject" is factually the speaker of the expression and the epistemological objet which is primary in the production of art. Since art is a language, the standard of art is truth-false, and therefore, the truth content is the criterion of authentic art. Negativity is the core character of truth content. 展开更多

Truth-conditional approaches to tense and other temporal expressions have relied on both linear-time and branching-time frameworks as needed. However, in the truth-conditional enterprise generally, it seems advisable to settle on a single depiction of time. Linear time is the simpler framework, and branching time faces difficulties for which we seem to have no immediate solutions. This paper defends the applicability of linear time. The apparent branching of time results from the use of speech acts other than factual assertion. Truth in correspondence with specific conditions is relevant when making factual assertions. However, we are in no epistemic position to advance factual assertions about the future, but only suppositions and predictions. For these, the truth-conditional content is employed differently. For suppositions and predictions, we only "pretend" to reference things, to assert facts, and to accept them as "true." There is a wide array of alternatives about what we can suppose or predict, giving the impression of branching options. Suppositions and predictions under active consideration are often marked with present tense, whereas those that are inactive (not presently under active consideration but nonetheless relevant) are often marked with past tense. 展开更多

The language is closely related to Dani, Walak, and Nggem. It is an SOV language typology that has a complex morphological system. Four spatial dimensions are morphosyntactically coded in elevative deixis, which are steepness/non-steepness distinction, proximity/distality distinction, adverbial/attributive expressions, and vertical/horizontal plane. This paper discusses the grammatical operation of a set of two-term system: ei "up" and ou "down" that serves as the basic forms for the elevational deixis in Wano. 展开更多

In order to automatically find and conveniently rectify the structural conflicts appearing in a new ontology model version after a series of ontology evolution,we propose an ontology model verification approach,in which the object constraint language (OCL) and an ontology definition meta-model (ODM) are used to complete the ontology verification.The ODM is composed of the ontology related elements and the definition rule related elements.The OCL is employed to describe the elements in the ontology definition meta-model:OCL extension for the ontology related elements,and OCL extension for the ontological design patterns.All of the above OCL rules will describe the constraint relationships between ontology elements.Associated with an example,the application of the ontology model verification approach based on OCL and ODM is introduced.Consequently,the conflicts happened in the ontology changing and evolution can be easily verified and rectified through this approach. 展开更多
