The behavioral responses of a tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) school to low (0.13 mg/L), moderate (0.79 mg/L) and high (2.65 mg/L) levels of unionized ammonia (UIA) concentration were monitored using a computer vision system. The swimming activity and geometrical parameters such as location of the gravity center and distribution of the fish school were calculated continuously. These behavioral parameters of tilapia school responded sensitively to moderate and high UIA concen-tration. Under high UIA concentration the fish activity showed a significant increase (P<0.05), exhibiting an avoidance reaction to high ammonia condition, and then decreased gradually. Under moderate and high UIA concentration the school’s vertical location had significantly large fluctuation (P<0.05) with the school moving up to the water surface then down to the bottom of the aquarium alternately and tending to crowd together. After several hours’ exposure to high UIA level, the school finally stayed at the aquarium bottom. These observations indicate that alterations in fish behavior under acute stress can provide important in-formation useful in predicting the stress. 展开更多

Our framework involves two stages: a preprocessing phase, in which a hand-drawn clip library with mixed architecture is constructed, and the on-line phase, in which the domain dependent language instructions parsing is carried out and clips in the clip library are matched by use of some matching values calculated from the information derived from instruction parsing. An im- portant feature of our approach is its ability to preserve the artistic quality of clips in the produced cartoon animations. 展开更多

This paper studied the impact resistance of 3D integrated cellular woven composite panel under persudo-static impact, comprised the test result with property of typical 3D woven composites, analyzed some parameters that maybe affect composites' impact resistance and at last used SEM to observe the damage process and mechanism of samples. The result shows that the impact resistance of 3D integrated cellular woven composites is much better than the performance of typical 3D woven composites; it is an active method to improve the impact resistance of composites that developing preform with cellular on the basis of typical 3D woven structure; for different 3D integrated cellular woven structure, the value of absorbed-energy is increasing with the hollow percentage; tiny deformatlen will not emerge on samples until the acting force gets to 85% of the maximum; similar with typical 3D woven composites, the delaminated phenomenon of 3D integrated cellular woven composites is also unapparent during impact process. 展开更多

A fast motion estimation algorithm for variable block-size using the "line scan and block merge procedure" is proposed for airborne image compression modules.Full hardware implementation via FPGA is discussed in detail.The proposed pipelined architecture based on the line scan algorithm is capable of calculating the required 41 motion vectors of various size blocks supported by H.264 within a 16 × 16 block in parallel.An adaptive rate distortion cost function is used for various size block decision.The motion vectors of adjacent small blocks are merged to predict the motion vectors of larger blocks for reducing computation.Experimental results show that our proposed method has lower computational complexity than full search algorithm with slight quality decrease and little bit rate increase.Due to the high real-time processing speed it can be easily realized in hardware. 展开更多

Mobile device research has been increasing rapidly in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) recently. Following this trend, this paper proposes a user-centered interface, which has been designed, completely installed and independently run on a mobile phone. Video signal is steamed through its camera as the image input to the interface by employing techniques of image processing, computer vision and graphics to identify automatically absolute positions of human face, neck and two hands. A paradigm is also put up theoretically. And it embeds this interface to perceive the human postures and convert them into relaxed comic character according to its context. 展开更多

To study recall accuracy of the offensive and defensive situations including movements of elite-athlete/novice oneself, a novel experimental system was developed where defensive actions were performed by the subject with a CG (Computer Graphics) player who presented predetermined offensive actions. Both the CG player's movements and subject's movements were reproduced by a video using mixed reality technology for recall examination. This system was also designed to rearrange the natural sequence of image frames resulting in a reproducible video in which the time relation of offense and defense was falsified. Displacement of timing in the false video was twofold; delayed from the truth or advanced from the truth. Using this two-video, true/false imagery method, the subject was asked to select the true video by recall; thus it became possible to examine the recall accuracy quantitatively by controlling the timing displacement. Results of the experiment using this system revealed that karate expert possessed a skill to recognize the time relation between the opponent's movement and one's own movement perceptually that was more developed than that of the novice. It was further identified that the expert as well as the novice recognized delayed displacement more accurately than they could recognize advanced displacement. 展开更多

Applying the theory of adaptation, Feminism, and Performance Studies, this paper explores the adaptation, inter-textuality, and gender in the three films The Tempest (2010) directed by Julie Taymor, Prospero's Books (1991) directed by Peter Greenaway, and Shakespeare in Love (1998) directed by John Madden, referenced to Gnomeo and Juliet (2011), a cartoon animation. Both films of The Tempest show visual spectacle and technology images by CGI (Computer-Generated Cinematic Graphic Image) effect. The author argues the power struggle between Caliban and Prospero played by actress Helen Mirren, changes from post-colonial discourse in the male domain, to be more about the intellect contest between man and woman, and Taymor's adaptation is more focused on maternity than actor John Gielgud's on politics. Inter-textuality exists in Shakespeare in Love and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and Twelfth Night. Unlike the tragedy in the films, Gnomeo and Juliet ends happily as we can expect from most musicals and fairy tales. The inter-textuality of literature and art, dramatic plays, historical events, and biographical sketches are delicately intertwined. Media represent Shakespeare applied by Jean Baudrillard's "simulacra" and Richard Schechner's "simulation" to present the liminal threshold between reality, role-playing, and theatricality. Extraction of traffic information from image or video sequence is a hot research topic in intelligenttransportation system and computer vision. A real-time traffic information extraction method based on com-pressed video with interframe motion vectors for speed, density and flow detection, has been proposed for ex-traction of traffic information under fixed camera setting and well-defined environment. The motion vectors arefirst separated from the compressed video streams, and then filtered to eliminate incorrect and noisy vectors u-sing the well-defined environmental knowledge. By applying the projective transform and using the filtered mo-tion vectors, speed can be calculated from motion vector statistics, density can be estimated using the motionvector occupancy, and flow can be detected using the combination of speed and density. The embodiment of aprototype system for sky camera traffic monitoring using the MPEG video has been implemented, and experi-mental results proved the effectiveness of the method proposed. 展开更多

The Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding(MARSIS) onboard the Mars Express(MEX) spacecraft started to collect data of the Martian topside ionosphere from May,2005.By now a large amount of ionograms has been obtained.It is important to extract vertical ionospheric information effectively from the ionograms for further study.In this paper a new method,Object Tracking Method(OTM),is proposed to automatically extract the ionospheric electron density profiles by computer.This method is based on three algorithms,namely the Hough transform,region growing segmentation algorithm and moving objects detection method from video sequences.In processing ionosphere echoes are treated as moving objects.The identification ratio of OTM for the MARSIS ionograms is estimated to be around 90%. 展开更多
