The present paper intends to study the relationship between foreign language learning proficiency and cognitive styles from the perspectives of psychology, psycholinguistics, and second language acquisition. Through the analysis, the author has arrived at a conclusion that learners with different cognitive styles adopt quite different strategies in learning a foreign language. The best-matched methods fitting for different cognitive styles may help learners improve their learning proficiency. Therefore, in order to improve teaching proficiency, foreign language teachers should keep a match between learners' cognitive styles and teaching methodologies.展开更多

However, there is some incongruity in between in the college EFL classroom in China, which has very much hindered students' language learning progress. Based on statistical survey and classroom observations, the paper examines the general differences in college students' learning preferences, presents some findings on the various conflicting situations, and discusses its implications for second language learning and teaching.展开更多

Under such circumstances, greater importance has been attached to English teaching of which reading has been given some privileges at the tertiary level in China.Hence, it is very essential for language teachers to have a good understanding about how to teach reading in a College English classroom.This article discusses what reading is, the important issues in teaching reading and gives some proposals for how to teach reading efficiently in a College English classroom, aiming to give an idea that reading can be learnt effectively if students are motivated,exposed to English language and given chances to use English.展开更多
