The participants were new nurses, preceptors of new nurses, administrators, patients and members of the patients' family cared by new nurses. The research instruments were: (1) five questionnaires toward program suitability, knowledge, attitude, caring expression, and result to organization. The mean, standard deviation and dependent sample t-test were used for data analysis; (2) guidelines for focus group discussion and semi-structural questionnaire analyzed by content analysis. The study revealed that: (1) the mean of suitability was at the very high level (X = 4.49, SD. = .30); (2) the knowledge and attitude after training were significantly higher than before training at .000 level, [t =-21.65, p = .000 and t = -19.30, p = .000); {3} caring behavior after training was significantly higher than before training at the .000 level; and {4} the result of the program was at the high level { X = 4.25, SD. = .17}, related to the result of semi-structured interview and focus group discussion. These evaluation research finding suggested that administrators can use for improving the preparation of any project and apply to evaluate other training programs, developing human resource system.展开更多

Traditional low-cost methods requiring minimal user skill or training are still popular among professionals, scientists, and coastal zone management practitioners. Simple methods are being developed with a primary focus on sand and gravel beaches. This paper describes a simple, low-cost, manual field method for measuring profiles of beaches, which is particularly suitable for muddy shores. The equipment is a type of flexible U-tube manometer that uses liquid columns in vertical tubes to measure differences in elevation; the supporting frame is constructed from wooden poles with base disks, which hold measuring scales and a PVC tube. The structure was trialed on a mudflat characterized by a 20~0-cm-thick surface layer of silt and clay, located at the Kutubdia Island, Bangladesh. The study results are discussed with notes on the method's applicability, advantages and limitations, and several optional modifications for different scenarios for routine profiling of muddy shores. The equipment can be used by one person or two people, and the accuracy of the method is comparable to those in other methods. The equipment can also be used on sandy or gravel beaches.展开更多

The paper aims to explore a holistic course design for business professionals in IBC (Intercultural Business Communication) based on CLT (Communicative Language Teaching). The proposed course design encompasses three-dimensional contents: comprehensive language and expertise training, intercultural communicative competence cultivation, and intercultural PBL (project-based learning). A survey is conducted in a training program of Chinese business professionals in international institutions. Three principles are identified: (1) BE teaching is need-oriented, so the pedagogical methods should be tailored to meet the international workplace requirements; (2) The linguistic and professional knowledge acquisition is achieved through communicative function of the target language; and (3) Learners' participation in intercultural PBL can stimulate learners' interest and enhance their operational capabilities. The findings of the case study indicate that a holistic course design is: (1) Course syllabus should not be formed without taking the leamers' expectation and feedback into consideration; (2) Teaching strategies should be innovated to enhance learners' communicative confidence and competence; and (3) Teaching materials should be adapted and subjected to modification according to the authentic language used in intercultural settings. The study outcomes may also shed light on other disciplines of ESP teaching.展开更多

Methods: A cohort study was made on the risk factors of injuries in 805 male recruits during the military training from December 25, 1999 to December 25, 2000. Results: A total of 111 recruits (14%) experienced one or more injuries, and the cumulative incidence was 16.1 injuries per 100 soldiers in a year. And 77.7 % of the injuries belonged to overuse injuries of the skeletal and muscular systems, the most common type of which was stress fractures. Most injuries occurred in the 3rd month of training. Univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis of possible risk factors for overuse injuries were carried out, and a number of risk factors were identified: history of agricultural labor, history of lower limb injury, flatfoot and less running exercise before entry into the army. But a suitable body mass index (BMI) was a protective factor. Examination of age, body height, smoking, body flexibility and frequency of 2 mile running revealed no significant association with the injuries. Conclusions: History of agricultural labor, history of lower limb injury, flatfoot, less running exercise before entry into the army and lower BMI were risk factors of the overuse injuries. In order to decrease the incidence of overuse injuries, the young people with good physical ability and shapely body type should be selected during conscription. During the training, nutrition should be improved so as to decrease the incidence of injuries.展开更多
