Mobbing occurs when an employee in the workplace is steadily subjected to aggressive behavior from more than one colleague or supervisor over a period of time, in a situation where the target finds it difficult to defend him/herself to escape this dire situation. Such a long term incivility tends to stigmatize the mobbed victim and may cause severe psychological trauma since (s)he is metaphorically in a straitjacket. In this double-bind and double-squeeze condition where (s)he can neither get out of the situation nor endure the ordeal, a positive outcome is unlikely. How do we differentiate mobbing from conflict in organizations and how are disputes converted into mobbing behavior, and if one may even do research on mobbing in a culture of"organizational silence" and "obedience/submission" in a developing country will be the first theoretical research question. Whether systemic silence as a collective level phenomenon is not only an obstacle to healthy organizational communication and relationships, but also a serious barrier to development, participation and learning from malpractices is another relevant question. Most researches investigating the background of mobbing are based on either experiences of targets as victims or the critical cases including the perpetrators as mobber; Therefore, the findings are often at individual level and subjective. They are often "ex post facto" analysis of psychological dimensions (e.g., personality characteristics of mostly of mobbed victims and rarely of mobbers) or legal dimensions. There are few "ex ante" analyses of organizational culture dimensions so that preventive measures may be taken prior to any serious mobbing case is reported. This paper's objective is to approach mobbing as a function of group conflict and rumor that is uncontrolled for a long time. By exploring the background of mobbing in ten companies from service sector in IstanbuI-Turkey, this view is assessed. The findings confirmed that mobbing is a function of relational conflict and gossip particularly in companies with high positional power distance and highly centralized decision-making where high power imbalance between supervisors and subordinates are salient. Such organizations seem to be more conducive to concealed mobbing and survival than to development and participation of employees as "modus operandi".展开更多

Past drought patterns were analyzed for signal coherency with latest drought and the contribution of long-term trends in the Great Plains low-level jet, an important regional circulation feature of the spring rainy season in the Great Plains. Long-term changes in the seasonal transition from rainy spring into dry summer were also examined. Potential external forcing from radiative processes, soil-air interactions, and ocean teleconnections were assessed as contributors to the intensity of the drought. The atmospheric Rossby wave activity was found to be a potential source of predictability for the onset of drought. A probabilistic model was introduced and evaluated for its performance in predicting drought recovery in the Great Plains.展开更多

This work looks for a measure of evolution and changes during a negotiation process by KAM compared to existing literature research. Key account negotiators take strategic dimensions into account when starting a negotiation process. They measure the cost of negotiations, help their clients to position themselves properly, and develop partnerships. In general, researchers are more interested in organization and clients than in integrated processes. The process analysis is built on an in-depth analysis of Key Account Management (KAM) on three matters: an in-depth interview of 20 Key Account Managers from such companies as Air Liquide, Matra, Alcatel, GEC Alstom, Bull, EADS, PPG, an advertising agency and Omnicom on prospecting, partnerships, client’s effectiveness optimization, client’s qualification, lobbies, networks, international accounts. This research shows how KAM faces complex situations, how training and monitoring bring solutions to difficult situations, how information is managed through transparency relationships, TV shows, press media, information from shows and fairs, competitors evaluation. This work conceptualizes the KAM negotiation process and permits to managers to identify the different negotiation steps from their numerous mutual professional witnesses. The number of companies could have been larger, but we interviewed each salesperson in depth. Future work on key account salespeople should consider the following subjects: influence of KAM on tenders. Which ethical steps KAM can take with client companies to improve results. Innovation perception by clients is as a tool for success.展开更多

Disclosure quality is not so easy to measure, and it is derived from the application of different methodologies. In particular, the methodologies to assess the level of disclosure could be classified as subjective or objective. To the first category belong all the "tools" that are used directly without relying on the analysis of the original source of the information studies (Imhoff, 1992; Coleman & Eccles, 1997; Welker, 1995). The objective measurements used to assess the disclosure quality are, instead, based on the direct study of the original information source in order to obtain the information required (Krippendorff, 1980; Weber, 1985; Botosan, 1997; Lang & Lundholm, 2000). The aim of the paper is to give scholars and researchers a brief framework to understand the different methodologies used in accounting literature to assess the disclosure quality, providing examples of the application of the same in different research contexts.展开更多

Because of this trial and error process, the drive for simulations of AM has grown significantly. A simulation only becomes useful to researchers if it can be shown that it is a true representation of the physical process being simulated. Each process being simulated has a different method of validation to show it is an accurate representation of the process. This paper explores the various methodologies for validation of laser-based metal AM simulations, focusing mainly on the modeling of the thermal processes and other characteristics derived from the thermal history. It will identify and explain the various validation techniques used, specifically looking at the frequency of reported use of each technique.展开更多

De Qi comprises needling sensations felt by the patient, and the sensations perceived by the acupuncturist. Classical Traditional Chinese Medicine theory states that De Qi is closely related to curative effect. In modern studies, the main index that researchers have used to evaluate De Qi was the needling sensation reported by the patient. Between 1 st Aug and 31 st Oct 2014, we conducted an electronic database search of all fields in Chinese and English to select literature assessing acupuncture needle sensations. We then reviewed the methods used within these studies to evaluate De Qi. The methods included simple evaluation, and the use of a De Qi scale/questionnaire. The simple evaluation, a qualitative evaluation, was judged by typical sensations felt by the patient after needling at acupoints, such as soreness, numbness, fullness, and heaviness. This method was easy and practicable, and had been adopted widely by Chinese researchers. In contrast, the De Qi scale/questionnaire, a quantitative evaluation, had multiple compiling methods available for evaluating the intensity of De Qi. The standardization and objectification of the De Qi scale/questionnaire effectively improved the quality of studies on De Qi, thereby these scales/questionnaires have been acknowledged and applied by most researchers. The present review analyzed and compared the scales/questionnaires used to evaluate De Qi; furthermore, we provided suggestions for the development and improvement of these questionnaires through integration with classical De Qi theory.展开更多

The uncovered mechanical behaviors of structures and materials with reduced sizes and dimensions pose open questions to the community of mechanicians, which expand the framework of continuum mechanics by advancing the theory, as well as modeling and experimental tools. Researchers in China have been actively involved into this exciting area, making remarkable contributions to the understanding of nanoscale mechanical processes, the development of multi-scale, multi-field modeling and experimental techniques to resolve the processing-microstructures-properties relationship of materials, and the interdisciplinary studies that broaden the subjects of mechanics. This article reviews selected progress made by this community, with the aim to clarify the key concepts, methods and applications of micro- and nano-mechanics, and to outline the perspectives in this fast-evolving field.展开更多

However, they remain unknown to many who work in the field. Some possible causes are scarce information, few research groups using them in a routine basis, and even fewer companies offering turnkey and affordable solutions. Nevertheless, as optical fibers revolutionize the way of carrying data in telecommunications, a similar trend is detectable in the world of sensing. The present review aims to describe the most relevant contributions of fiber sensing in biomechanics since their introduction, from 1960s to the present, focusing on intensity-based configurations. An effort has been made to identify key researchers, research and development (R&D) groups and main applications.展开更多
