But it is very difficult to obtain the C--C bond dissociation energy (BDE) by experiments, so using quantum chemistry calculation such as density functional theory (DFT) to study the C--C bond dissociation energy is a very useful means. The impact of acceptor substituents and donor substituents on the C--C bond length distribution was studied.展开更多

Taking two different Polish novels as examples, the author deals with the metaphor of ruins, remains, and ashes to define the ontological status of the world in two texts. In the first text, Piotr Szewc's annihilation brings the positive vision of ruin as a kind of fragile and finite being which needs love and care. In the second text, Piotr Pazinski's Pensjonat shows that ruin is only a negative aspect of reality which is illegible and empty. The main concern of the text is to oppose those two visions and make a conclusion about the dialectic of the ruin.展开更多

It is argued that the traditional Western philosophy from Parmenides and Plato to R. Descartes, I. Kant, and G. Hegel can be described as the participation in the concept of reason. This tradition is characterized by the goal to assimilate the things of the world by concept of reason and in accordance with a project reason, to change the world. This led to the ecological catastrophe. We can overcome ecological catastrophe successfully only when we change the paradigm and shift to the paradigm of participation in the events of the world. The article is based on A. Badiou's conception of event which is contrasted with Descartes' conception of the event. Argumentation of the article shows the importance of B. Spinoza's monistic philosophy for our epoch, which is struck by the ecological disaster. This philosophy is not characterised by the war between things and thoughts, because both thoughts and things are attributes expressing the same God or Nature and are not in conflict with one another.展开更多

Multiple sources of evidence were collected, including questionnaires, interviews, classroom observations, and presentation profiles. Data analyses showed that the students encountered difficulties in selecting a research topic, designing the proposal research, grasping the genre of the thesis proposal, and doing a critical literature review, but varied in their attitude toward getting support from their supervisors. By holding discussions with their supervisors, observing their peers' presentations on research proposals, and reading relevant literature, they eventually completed the writing of their research proposals.展开更多

An organizing committee consisting of international students and young professionals brought together around200 young professionals and students from around the globe to exchange ideas and knowledge on reducing disaster risk, building resilient communities, and advocating for the inclusion of youth priorities within the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030(SFDRR). The knowledge exchange during the Forum was structured around a Toolbox for Resilience that connected to the SFDRR section on Priorities for Action. This article presents the outcomes of these young people’s participation in the disaster risk reduction capacity building eventsand policy-making, as well as the follow-up actions envisioned by the young participants of the Forum. The voices of the younger generation were heard in the SFDRR and young people are ready to expand their actions for the framework’s effective implementation. Young people call on technical experts, donors, NGOs, agencies, governments, and academia to partner with them on this journey to create a more resilient tomorrow together.展开更多
