In the last two decades, significant progress has been made from both theory and expe...Micro-alloying design of wrought magnesium(Mg) alloys is an important strategy to achieve high mechanical properties at a low cost. In the last two decades, significant progress has been made from both theory and experiment. In the present review, we try to summarize recent advances in micro-alloying design of wrought Mg alloys from both theoretical and pragmatic perspectives, and provide fundamental data required for establishing the relationship between chemical composition and mechanical properties of Mg alloys. We start with theoretical attempts for understanding the mechanical properties of Mg alloys at different scales, by involving first principle calculations,molecular dynamics, cellular automata, and crystal plasticity. Then, the role of alloying elements is discussed for a series of promising Mg alloys such as Mg-Al, Mg-Zn, Mg-RE(rare-earth element), Mg-Sn, and Mg-Ca families.Potential challenges in the micro-alloying design of Mg alloys are highlighted at the end. The review is expected to provide helpful guidance for the intelligent design of novel wrought Mg alloys and inspire more innovative ideas in this field.展开更多

This paper addresses the need for systematic evaluation of the station keeping systems of deepwater drilling semi-submersibles.Based on the selected drilling semi-submersible configuration, the mooring systems were an...This paper addresses the need for systematic evaluation of the station keeping systems of deepwater drilling semi-submersibles.Based on the selected drilling semi-submersible configuration, the mooring systems were analyzed and designed for a range of water depths using different mooring line materials.These were steel wire rope, polyester rope and HMPE (high modulus poly ethylene).The mooring analysis was carried out using the advanced fully coupled time domain analysis method in the computer software package HARP.Diffraction analysis was first applied to solve the hydrodynamic properties of the vessel and then the motion equations of the complete dynamic system including the drilling rig, the mooring lines and risers were developed and solved in the time domain.Applying the advanced analysis method, a matrix of mooring systems was developed for operating in water depths of 1000 m, 1500 m, and 2 000 m using various mooring materials.The development of mooring systems was conducted in accordance with the commonly adopted mooring design code, API RP 2SK and API RP 2SM.Fresh attempts were then made to comparatively evaluate the mooring system's characteristics and global performance.Useful results have been obtained in terms of mooring materials, water depths, and key parameters of mooring configurations.The results provide in-depth insight for the design and operation of deepwater mooring systems in the South China Sea environment.展开更多

The main girder adopts flat steamline steel closed box girder which has well wind-resistant capability and is technically mature besides beautiful appearance. Straight web plates of the steel box girder in longitudinal direction are proposed in order to ensure the integrity of the steel box girder, and to keep the stress of the steel box girder continuous in the middle pylon, as well as to reduce the gradient of the middle pylon columns. The cross section of the box girder has one box with three cells. Solid-web diaphragm plate with good integrity and high torsional stiffness is adopted. The lifting lugs are utilized in the anchors of suspender cable. In this paper, selection of the cross section of the steel box girder, the general structure design, local structure design and main structure calculation results of Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge are introduced emphatically.展开更多

The...The objective of this investigation was to study the behavior of deep pile caps and the ultimate load-carrying capacity. Four 1/10 scaled models of nine-pile caps were cast and tested on vertical loads to failure. The destruction shapes of pile caps,the correlation between load and displacement,and the internal stresses were analyzed systematically. The results demonstrated that the failures of all the four models are resulted from punching shear; the internal flow of the forces in nine-pile caps can be approximated by "strut-and-tie" model. Furthermore,the failure loads of these specimens were predicted by some of the present design methods and the calculated results were compared with the experimental loads. The comparative results also indicated that the "strut-and-tie" model is a more reasonable design method for deep pile caps design.展开更多
Based on the theory of moving surface boundary layer control(MSBC),a concept of an airfoil having a rotating cylinder at the leading edge has been developed and experimentally proven to have good aerodynamic performan...Based on the theory of moving surface boundary layer control(MSBC),a concept of an airfoil having a rotating cylinder at the leading edge has been developed and experimentally proven to have good aerodynamic performance even at large angles of attack.Thus,this research aims to give guidance on optimizing the design of this kind of airfoil with high lift coefficients.Using computational fluid dynamics(CFD)technique,the CFD simulation results have been compared with the experimental results available in the literature,and then the SST two-equation model is selected as the appropriate turbulence model.At a given cylinder surface velocity ratio,the cylinder diameter d,the drop height of trailing edgeδand the curvatures of the pressure and suction surfaces of the airfoil are regarded as the optimal design parameters and the airfoil lift coefficient is considered as the optimization objective function.Therefore,using orthogonal optimization method,we herein develop a new design of airfoil favorable for having a rotating leading edge.It has been numerically proven that the resulting airfoil has good capability of achieving a substantially superior performance when compared to the airfoils of the prior art.展开更多
