Sharing, management and on- demand allocation of network resources are particularly important in Cloud computing. Ho- wever, nearly all-current available cloud com- puting platforms are either proprietary or their software infrastructure is invisible to the rese- arch community except for a few open-source platforms. For universities and research insti- tutes, more open and testable experimental plat- forms are needed in a lab-level with PCs. In this paper, a platform of infrastructure resou- rce sharing system (Platform as a Service (PaaS)) is developed in virtual Cloud comput- hug environment. Its architecture, core modules, main functions, design and operational envir- onment and applications are introduced in de- tail. To protect mining areas from electrical fire, it is very important to install electrical nre momtormg system to ensure safety in development of mineral resources and for buildings. In this paper, design for electrical fire monitoring and detection system with optional sensor modules has been proposed. In addition, necessity and suitability of electrical fire monitoring and detection system with optional sensor modules in mining areas have been reviewed. The designed electrical fire monitoring and detection system suit- able for work environment of mining industry is composed by host-computer monitoring software and slave-computer detectors. Monitoring detectors are manufactured by using embedded technology. Exter- nal shells deployed have superior enclosure performances and explosion-proof properties. It is easy to install and maintain the system. In general, the system has reached, or even exceeded standards specified in national standards for performances and appearances of such devices. Test results show application of electrical fire monitoring and detection system can effectively enhance monitoring intensity over the mining areas and provide reliable guarantee to ensure orderly development of mineral resources and to protect physical and property safety of citizens in these areas. 展开更多

This paper presents a new design procedure for the networks with multiple resources, such as hydrogen and water, of different qualities. The minimum consumption targets of the resources and pinch-causing sources can be identified as well during design. The objective of this work is to reduce the consumption of the resources with higher quality due to their higher cost. A few examples are investigated to show the proposed method. For a net-work of single resource with single contaminant, there is often only one pinch point for the resource. On the other hand, for a network of multiple resources with single contaminant, there might be a few different pinch points. Each resource might have its own pinch point, if its amount is sufficient. The contaminant concentration of the pinch-causing source for a resource with lower concentration will be below that of the higher-concentration resource(s). 展开更多

Since the traditional Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI) is not good at supporting these new requirements, an extended high level architecture (HLA) multilayer federation integration architecture (MLFIA), based on the resource management federation (RMF) and its supporting environment based Service-oriented architecture (SOA) and HLA (SOHLA) are proposed, The idea and realization of two key technologies, the dynamic creation of simulation federation based on RMF, TH RTI, an extensible HLA runtime infrastructure (RTI), used at Internet are emphasized. The present paper discusses the modeling of tool geometry effects on the friction stir aluminum welds using response surface methodology. The friction stir welding tools were designed with different shoulder and tool probe geometries based on a design matrix. The matrix for the tool designing was made for three types of tools, based on three types of probes, with three levels each for defining the shoulder surface type and probe profile geometries. Then, the effects of tool shoulder and probe geometries on friction stirred aluminum welds were experimentally investigated with respect to weld strength, weld cross section area, grain size of weld and grain size of thermo-mechanically affected zone. These effects were modeled using multiple and response surface regression analysis. The response surface regression modeling were found to be appropriate for defining the friction stir weldment characteristics. 展开更多

Financial System Design and Firm Investment in Malaysian Listed Firms

The firm-level da... This paper investigates the impact of financial system design on investment. It is aimed to provide additional empirical evidence based on the original paper by Demirguc-Kunt and Maksimovic (2002). The firm-level data of Malaysian companies between 2000 and 2007 are used. This paper also extends the previous literatures by using a panel data methodology, applying a random-effects estimator. The findings show that: First, the growth investment of firms are positively related to the development of the banking system but negatively related to the capital market. These firms substitute equity for debt associated with an increase in stock market activity (more long-term financing) and debt for equity in the presence of an increase in banking activity (less long-term financing). Second, the internal growth financing, short-term growth financing and long-term growth financing have shown a significant impact on growth investment by firms. It implies that these financing constraints are complements to the development of banking system and stock market activity. Therefore, well-developed stock markets facilitate long-term financing, whereas a well-developed banking sector facilitates short-term financing. It is recommended that policy makers stress more on banking system for short-term financing and capital market for long-term financing. 展开更多

The developed modem control systems and buildings management resource systems would be effective if they are based on previously established optimal conditions during the building design. This is one of the key issues for a responsible architecture. The focus of this paper is on sustainable design methods and techniques for saving resources and their management throughout the building lifecycle. The main subject of the present article is the characteristics of these methods and their fundamental role in sustainable resource management during the building operation. The results which are based on conducted case studies of European and international practice in the construction of sustainable buildings are implemented here. Key features of a comprehensive approach for design and construction are outlined via comparative analysis, as well as various systems for the evaluation of sustainability for already constructed buildings. The mostly used criteria and indicators for sustainability are systematized, including those related to resource consumption. By analyzing a specific example, the role of sustainable design methods is justified as an important prerequisite for effective management of building resources in the process building maintenance. According to the conducted studies, during the longest life cycle period of a building, by implementation of control systems and resource management of building, the costs are successfully optimized. Specific directions that prove the effectiveness of such systems are systematized in the paper. Innovative approaches, complex methods and measures for design and management of buildings resources are presented as results of this study. 展开更多

Electricity industry restructuring should not sacrifice supply security to pursue economic efficiency. Till now there is no academic consensus on which electricity market design provides the least distorting investment incentives. Alternative approaches that have been adopted around the world for ensuring the appropriate level of investment in electric generation capacity are discussed, and much attention is devoted on the evaluation of capacity payment systems. The finding is that on one hand, capacity payment systems have good effect on reducing spot market price volatility and increasing the volume of generating capacity at the costs of relatively high total electricity prices; on the other hand, however, they are not robust against either the abuse of market power in the energy market or being manipulated. 展开更多

Measurement of the volume of gas adsorbed per unit mass of coal with increasing pressure at a constant temperature produces an isotherm that describes the gas storage capacity of this type of coal. The accurate testing and interpretation of coal sorption isotherm plays an important role in the areas of coal mine methane drainage, coalbed methane (CBM) reservoir resource assessment, enhanced coalbed methane (ECBM) recovery, as well as the carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration in deep coal seams or similar geological formations. Different coal sorption isotherm testing apparatus and associated calculation methods are critically reviewed and presented in this paper. These include both volumetric and gravimetric based methods, as well as experimental sorption tests with confining stress and direction sorption methods. The volumetric techniques utilise experimental apparatus with sample cell and injection pump and that with both sample cell and reference cell. Whilst the gravimetric approachesinclude methods with sample cell and suspension magnetic balance and that with both sample cell and reference cell. Different testing methods are compared and discussed in this study. A unique in-house-built coal sorption isotherm testing apparatus at the University of Wollongong was presented together with the calculation method, procedures and experimental results. The isotherm results can be calculated by both Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) equation and calibration cure methods which can be used directly to convert the volume of adsorbed gas in different test conditions to standard condition (NTP). 展开更多
