We study the problem of humanactivity recognition from RGB-Depth(RGBD)sensors when the skeletons are not available.The skeleton tracking in Kinect SDK workswell when the human subject is facing thecamera and there are no occlusions.In surveillance or nursing home monitoring scenarios,however,the camera is usually mounted higher than human subjects,and there may beocclusions.The interest-point based approachis widely used in RGB based activity recognition,it can be used in both RGB and depthchannels.Whether we should extract interestpoints independently of each channel or extract interest points from only one of thechannels is discussed in this paper.The goal ofthis paper is to compare the performances ofdifferent methods of extracting interest points.In addition,we have developed a depth mapbased descriptor and built an RGBD dataset,called RGBD-SAR,for senior activity recognition.We show that the best performance isachieved when we extract interest points solely from RGB channels,and combine the RGBbased descriptors with the depth map-baseddescriptors.We also present a baseline performance of the RGBD-SAR dataset. 展开更多

The technical characteristics of Sichuan folk furniture were studied from craft aesthetic perspective. The features of Sichuan folk furniture material, technology and structure were analyzed through literature review, field investigation and expert interview methods, the technical characteristics of Sichuan folk furniture were re-analyzed from craft aesthetic perspective rather than the traditional material and technique research perspectives. The study shows that Sichuan folk furniture technical features contain not only cultural spirit and aesthetic consciousness, but distinctive aesthetic personality as well. Sichuan folk furniture technical characteristics convey Chinese traditional design philosophy, such as theory is based on objects, and it is highly concentrated and concise of aesthetic sentiment in Sichuan folk aesthetic temperament and interest. 展开更多

Society is not only high-level personnel to graduate raised higher and higher English proficiency requirements, the ability to develop applications based English Education in Higher Colleges also put forward higher requirements. Vocalional Training Colleges for professional and technical personnel is an important part of our personnel training requirements for rapid economic development of professional and technical personnel in addition to high technical expertise, but also need to understand the professional literature information inquiry, learning and further education. This study focuses on thirty-five Low-level/achieving students on General Education English which meets for two hour.,; per week, eight weeks for two consecutive semesters (totaling thirty-two hours) in the University of Technology in Taiwan. Its chief aims four-fold: First, to promote the students' learning motivation; second, to increase the students' learning interests; third, to raise their English abilities by reading theme-based/oriented topics; and, fourth, instruct them by giving guidelines to make Power-Point presentations in class. A prior or pilot survey was conducted to provide empirical opportunities to collect and explore the participants' views, comments, and opinions in relation to the selected research questions on this topic. The results also indicate that students can speak different/various length of words, utilize appropriate phrase to express their ideas or goals, and to speak in various/different paces, etc. Teachers couldn't assess the students only by their test results due to the different learning styles adopted by individual students; however, through this survey, students can be better assisted through the identification of their individual styles or habits, their individual styles or habits of learning. As regards relevant knowledge about their students' learning styles, teachers may consider whether and how to adjust their methods of teaching in order to better motivate them to learn English more effectively and efficiently. 展开更多
