A new braided thin-walled biodegradable ureteral stent composed of PGA ( polyglycolic acid) and PLGA ( eopolymer of polylactic and polygiycolic acid) mnltifilaments was evaluated in v/tro in this study. In vitro degradation was performed in artificial urine with pH of 5.8 and the temperature of 37~C. The mass loss, mechanical properties, and morphology were observed at different degradaing time intervals of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 weeks. The stent had a thinner wail than those of other degradable stents and provided better mechanical properties. The braided thin-walled biodegradable ureteral stents began to degrade after 2 weeks. At the week of 5, the stents were fully degraded. The degradative process of stents is smooth and well controlled.展开更多

However, due to its subjective, qualitative and experience-dependent nature, the studies on tongue characterization have been widely emphasized. This paper surveys recent progresses in analysis of tongue manifestation. These new developments include the cross-network and cross-media color reproduction of tongue image, the automatic segmentation of tongue body based on knowledge, the automatic analysis of curdiness and griminess for the tongue fur and the automatic analysis of plumpness, wryness and dot -thorn of tongue body. The clinic experiments verify the validity of these new methods.展开更多

Due to the recent developments in diagnostic techniques and instrumentation, the early detection of gastric carcinoma (GC) has increased. Yet synchronous multiple primary gastric carcinomas, de- fined as 2 or more primary gastric carcinomas occurring in 1 patient simultaneously, are not frequently seen. The etiology of synchronous tumors is still unclear, and their coexistence can be problematic for surgeons, oncologists and pathologists in regards to diagnosis, treat- ment, and follow-up. Research has focused mainly on such issues as the frequency of occurrence of primary multiple carcinomas, identi- fication of high-risk groups, early diagnosis, treatment methods, and prognostic factors. The purpose of this article is to present a rare case of synchronous tumors and to review the literature addressing the surgical treatment for patients with multiple cancers.展开更多

And additional Immunohistochemistry examinations were done to confirm diagnosis. Renal oncocytomas were found incidentally in four patients during medical examination. No characteristic changes were found in laboratory tests. Radiology examination provided the location and possibility of renal oncocytoma. History, laboratory test and radiology exanimation indicated the diagnosis of renal oncocytoma, but the final identify of renal oncocytoma need pathology examination.展开更多

Methods: The clinical data of 25 patients with tumor of the papilla of Vater treated by local resection in our hospital from December 1983 to May 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The morbidities of abdominal pain, jaundice and recurrent cholangitis were 84%, 80% and 48%, respectively. The accordant rate for preoperative duodenoscopic biopsy and post-operative pathological diagnosis was 80%. Intraoperative frozen section examination accurately predicted the final pathological results in all the patients. The post-operative complication rate was 20% and the operative mortality rate was 4%. The 5-year survival rates of local resection for benign tumors and malignant tumors were 75% and 28.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Abdominal pain, jaundice and recurrent cholangitis are the main symptoms and signs of tumor of the papilla of Vater. Duodenoscopy is the principal preoperative diagnostic method and intraoperative frozen section examination is reliable in assessing the operative specimens. Selective local resection is an effective treatment option for tumor of the papilla of Vater.展开更多

METHODS: Specific IgG4 in sera of patients with cerebral cysticercosis was assessed using colloidal gold-labeled mouse-anti-human IgG4 McAb as probe. The results were compared with the CT image manifestation. RESULTS: The specific IgG4 positive rate in sera of patients with cerebral cysticercosis was 97.8%, whereas sera from patients with other kinds of parasitosis or central nerve system disease and the control group were all negative, except for a weak cross-reaction of sera from patients with hepatic echinococoosis. The determination of specific IgG4 in sera of patients with cerebral cysticercosis during different times of treatment showed that along with an increase in treatment time and improvement of clinical symptoms, specific IgG4 level gradually decreased. The positive rate and intensity of specific IgG4 in sera from patients with cerebral cysticercosis were consistent with the number of cysticercus parasites in the brain and pathologic changes, such as survival, disintegration, death and calcification. Survival of cysticercus in the brain was objectively evaluated using this technique. CONCLUSIONS: The determination of specific IgG4 in sera is a practical method for diagnosis and therapeutic evaluation of cerebral cysticercosis.展开更多

SDPs are a novel class of non-covalently bonded macromolecules with highly branched structure and three-dimensional globular topology, which exhibit dynamic/reversible features and unique physical/chemical properties(e.g., high solubility, low viscosity, and numerous functional terminal groups). The reversibility of non-covalent interactions endows SDPs with the ability of facile preparation, smart responsiveness, and simple metabolism. These special characteristics determine the properties of SDPs, which are the key points for theranostic applications, including diagnosis, therapy, and theranostics. In this review, we briefly summarize the design and synthesis of SDPs with aimed structures, properties, functions as well as their present diagnostic and theranostic applications. These developments on the preparation and applications of SDPs for diagnostic and theranostic purpose promote interdisciplinary research fields of chemistry, material and biomedical science.展开更多

These multifunctional theranostic platforms include carbon-based nanomaterials(e.g., carbon nanotubes), drug conjugates, aliphatic polymers, micelles, vesicles, core-shell nanoparticles, microbubbles and dendrimers bearing different contrast agents and drugs, such as cytotoxic compounds in the oncology domain. Dendrimers emerged as a new class of highly tunable hyperbranched polymers, and have been developed as useful theranostic platforms. Magnetic resonance imaging, gamma scintigraphy, computed tomography and optical imaging are the main techniques developed with dendrimers in the theranostic domain in oncology. Different imaging agents have been used such as Gd(Ⅲ),19F, Fe2O3(MRI),76Br(PET),111In,88Y,153Gd,188Re,131I(SPECT),177Lu,gold(CT) and boronated groups, siliconnaphthalocyanines, dialkylcarbocyanines and QDs(optical imaging dyes).展开更多
