Applications of transliteration editors in the context of Universal Digital Library (UDL) include entry of meta-data and diction- aries for Indian languages. In this paper we propose a simple approach for building transliteration editors for Indian languages using Unicode and by taking advantage of its rendering engine. We demonstrate the usefulness of the Unicode based approach to build transliteration editors for Indian languages, and report its advantages needing little maintenance and few entries in the mapping table, and ease of adding new features such as adding letters, to the transliteration scheme. We demonstrate the trans- literation editor for 9 Indian languages and also explain how this approach can be adapted for Arabic scripts.展开更多

Because of the large computation complexity, it is usually implemented with ASIC chips, FPGA chips, or optimized hardware accelerators. With the rapid development of the multicore technology, multicore platforms become a reasonable choice for software radio (SR) systems. The Cell Broadband Engine processor is a state-of-art multi-core processor designed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM. In this paper, we present a 64-state soft input Viterbi decoder for WiMAX SR Baseband system based on the Cell processor. With one Synergistic Processor Element (SPE) of a Cell Processor running at 3.2GHz, our Viterbi decoder can achieve the throughput up to 30Mb/s to decode the tail-biting convolutional code. The performance demonstrates that the proposed Viterbi decoding implementation is very efficient. Moreover, the Viterbi decoder can be easily integrated to the SR system and can provide a highly integrated SR solution. The optimization methodology in this module design can be extended to other modules on Cell platform.展开更多
Polar codes have become increasingly popular recently because of their capacity achieving property.In this paper,a memory efficient stage-combined belief propagation(BP) decoder design for polar codes is presented.Fir...Polar codes have become increasingly popular recently because of their capacity achieving property.In this paper,a memory efficient stage-combined belief propagation(BP) decoder design for polar codes is presented.Firstly,we briefly reviewed the conventional BP decoding algorithm.Then a stage-combined BP decoding algorithm which combines two adjacent stages into one stage and the corresponding belief message updating rules are introduced.Based on this stage-combined decoding algorithm,a memory-efficient polar BP decoder is designed.The demonstrated decoder design achieves 50%memory and decoding latency reduction in the cost of some combinational logic complexity overhead.The proposed decoder is synthesized under TSMC 45 nm Low Power CMOS technology.It achieves 0.96 Gb/s throughput with 14.2mm^2 area when code length N=2^(16)which reduces 51.5%decoder area compared with the conventional decoder design.展开更多

As the result,cell-to-cell interference(CCI) becomes more serious and hence causes an increase in the raw bit error rate of data stored in the cells.Recently, low-density parity-check(LDPC)codes have appeared to be a promising solution to combat the interference of MLC NAND flash memory. However, the decoding complexity of the sum-product algorithm(SPA) is extremely high. In this paper, to improve the accuracy of the log likelihood ratio(LLR) information of each bit in each NAND flash memory cell, we adopt a non-uniform detection(N-UD) which uses the average maximum mutual information to determine the value of the soft-decision reference voltages.Furthermore, with an aim to reduce the decoding complexity and improve the decoding performance, we propose a modified soft reliabilitybased iterative majority-logic decoding(MSRBI-MLGD) algorithm, which uses a non-uniform quantizer based on power function to decode LDPC codes. Simulation results show that our design can offer a desirable trade-off between the performance and complexity for high-column-weight LDPC-coded MLC NAND flash memory.展开更多

In this respect, this paper will generalise the fundamental knowledge of the advertisement including its definition, objective, and writing principles. This is followed by an analysis on language features based on vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and rhetorical devices. However, the main thrust of the thesis is not devoted to a purely linguistic study. Rather, building on the theoretical reflections of equivalent theory and cultural conversion, this paper attempts to find the joint reflecting the similar functions of both English and Chinese. Therefore, This thesis will not confine itself simply to a list of language features but rather go further and crack the "hard nut"--how to tackle translation in advertisements. Little ink, as the case stands, has been spilled over this crux. Taking into consideration the distinctive functions and stylistic features of advertisement, general principles that highlight the qualities of awareness, understanding, conviction, and action will be offered. Based on these general principles, tactics both regular and strategic are tentatively offered. As is often the case, a translator walking on a tightrope plays dual roles: a submissive servant and a defiant master. In this sense, it is proposed that a blend of regular and strategic tactics should be employed in pursuit of an optimum transfer of information.展开更多

One example is William Tyndale's pocket-size New Testament translation, which underwem destruction including the burning of its manuscript, the published translation texts, and even the printers and possessors of these materials. This article reviews the legal history and the religious significance of the censorship, which further influences the appearance of the Authorized Version (1611 ). Related facts are parliamentary policies concerning imports of foreign priming, book licensing and the use of the Bible. The latter part of this paper reviews evems organized by Wolsey, Tunstall and Warham, and the launch of scholarly based Bible-translation. This paper concludes by re-emphasizing the significance of these parties in sustaining the divine preservation and development of Biblical literature-readers, translators, printers, traders, clergy and legislators. They made the Phoenix rise from the heap of ashes to heaven, and inspired the work of the King James Bible.展开更多

Unfortunately, the huge complexity keeps transcoding from being widely used in practical applications. This paper proposes an efficient transcoding architecture with a smart downscaling decoder and a fast mode decision algorithm. Using the proposed architecture, huge buffering memory space is saved and the transcoding complexity is reduced. Palletizing robot technology has been applied more and more extensively in logistics automation field.But there are some limitations in the current single-arm palletizing robot that it cannot do effective work in the ...Palletizing robot technology has been applied more and more extensively in logistics automation field.But there are some limitations in the current single-arm palletizing robot that it cannot do effective work in the process of moving back to the taking-end and the mechanical arm has so many freedoms that its control system is relatively complex.Based on the translating cam principle,a novel palletizing robot is designed.The horizontal movement of the palletizing mechanical arm is controlled by changeable outer slides,and the vertical movement is controlled by partitioned up-and-down spindles.To improve palletizing efficiency,the single palletizing mechanical arm is changed into multi-arm.Moreover,to improve its kinematic properties,the acceleration operating performance,joint driving force and palletizing trajectory are optimized through the multi-objective delaminating sequence method.According to the optimization results,the 3D model of the multi-arm palletizing robot is built in Pro/E,and the kinematic simulation is made.The simulation results show that the novel mechanism and optimization parameters are rational and feasible.This novel palletizing robot has the advantages of cam mechanism,so it simplifies the driving mode of palletizing movement and can lower the requirements for controlling system.At the same time,it can increase palletizing efficiency further by adding mechanical arms.展开更多

Meanwhile, research efforts have been made in the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) into interpreter training. Chinese researchers have explored a wide range of pedagogical factors in this regard, including training models, principles, materials and strategies as well as autonomous learning, assessment and trainer/trainee roles. This paper reviews the major studies in this field and may serve as a reference for international interpreting practice and research. It argues that more attention should be focused on micro-perspectives, more empirical research methods are to be adopted, and more professional training tools are to be developed and tried out.展开更多

My goal here is to fl...In the history of medicine, relatively little attention has been paid to the way medical illustration circulated globally---or to the issues raised by the cultural "translation" of such images. My goal here is to flesh out some of the history of this circulation and translation by exploring the aesthetic and medical connections be- tween two specific anatomical collections, both housed at the Gordon Pathology Museum at Guy's Hospital, London. The Joseph Towne collection of anatomical waxes and the Lam Qua paintings of the patients of medical missionary Peter Parker were both produced in the nineteenth century. Significantly, the two collections were part of related but culturally specific shifts in the way bodies (and diseased bodies) were viewed, represented, understood and treated. I explore some of the convergences and divergences between Western and Chinese medical and artistic priorities and will address some of the issues raised by them. These two collections are important, I argue, because they demonstrate how aesthetic considerations shape medical knowledge and wider attitudes about the human body.展开更多

文摘Palletizing robot technology has been applied more and more extensively in logistics automation field.But there are some limitations in the current single-arm palletizing robot that it cannot do effective work in the process of moving back to the taking-end and the mechanical arm has so many freedoms that its control system is relatively complex.Based on the translating cam principle,a novel palletizing robot is designed.The horizontal movement of the palletizing mechanical arm is controlled by changeable outer slides,and the vertical movement is controlled by partitioned up-and-down spindles.To improve palletizing efficiency,the single palletizing mechanical arm is changed into multi-arm.Moreover,to improve its kinematic properties,the acceleration operating performance,joint driving force and palletizing trajectory are optimized through the multi-objective delaminating sequence method.According to the optimization results,the 3D model of the multi-arm palletizing robot is built in Pro/E,and the kinematic simulation is made.The simulation results show that the novel mechanism and optimization parameters are rational and feasible.This novel palletizing robot has the advantages of cam mechanism,so it simplifies the driving mode of palletizing movement and can lower the requirements for controlling system.At the same time,it can increase palletizing efficiency further by adding mechanical arms.
文摘The journal Truth, Beauty, and Goodness was the main field where ZENG Xu-bai published his literature works; in response to the miscellaneous "revolutionary literature" at that time, he put forward the idea that literature should be a combination of unity and artistry, and emphasized self-expression of literature on the basis of popularization of literature. With these literature views, his works also had shown his pursuit for the specialty and artistry of literature, as well as a transition from technique-oriented writing to a balance of emotion expression and technique usage. Anyway, during his translation of French literature and creative practice, the rich literature nutrition he received led to his unclear and complex thoughts which he neutralized with carefulness, and hence his unique literature views.
文摘Impact of Internet Technologies increases importance of changes in the system of social communication creating a stressful situation for the functioning of traditionally established social institutions. New phenomena such as priest's and saints' online pages, represent significant deviation from historical practice, bring certain dissonance to the activities of the church. On one hand, church has to use modern communication channel, on the other hand, effects of online translation of confessional relations are not predictable. Open global socieW requires certain universalization of education, but professional communications are faced not only with a problem of language barrier, but also with national culture. School of thought, formed in traditions of particular cultural outlook, risks losing its face to the loss of national characteristics of the education system. Institute of Administration is also experiencing certain amount of stress.

文摘The technological breakthroughs in generative artificial intelligence,represented by ChatGPT,have brought about significant social changes as well as new problems and challenges.Generative artificial intelligence has inherent flaws such as language imbalance,algorithmic black box,and algorithmic bias,and at the same time,it has external risks such as algorithmic comfort zone,data pollution,algorithmic infringement,and inaccurate output.These problems lead to the difficulty in legislation for the governance of generative artificial intelligence.Taking the data contamination incident in Google Translate as an example,this article proposes that in the process of constructing machine translation ethics,the responsibility mechanism of generative artificial intelligence should be constructed around three elements:data processing,algorithmic optimisation,and ethical alignment.
文摘The past decade has witnessed dramatic changes and impressive progress in interpreter training in China due to technological innovations, policy support from the Ministry of Education, increasing demand for qualified interpreters in the market, and ceaseless efforts from interpreting trainers and researchers. Meanwhile, research efforts have been made in the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) into interpreter training. Chinese researchers have explored a wide range of pedagogical factors in this regard, including training models, principles, materials and strategies as well as autonomous learning, assessment and trainer/trainee roles. This paper reviews the major studies in this field and may serve as a reference for international interpreting practice and research. It argues that more attention should be focused on micro-perspectives, more empirical research methods are to be adopted, and more professional training tools are to be developed and tried out.
文摘In the history of medicine, relatively little attention has been paid to the way medical illustration circulated globally---or to the issues raised by the cultural "translation" of such images. My goal here is to flesh out some of the history of this circulation and translation by exploring the aesthetic and medical connections be- tween two specific anatomical collections, both housed at the Gordon Pathology Museum at Guy's Hospital, London. The Joseph Towne collection of anatomical waxes and the Lam Qua paintings of the patients of medical missionary Peter Parker were both produced in the nineteenth century. Significantly, the two collections were part of related but culturally specific shifts in the way bodies (and diseased bodies) were viewed, represented, understood and treated. I explore some of the convergences and divergences between Western and Chinese medical and artistic priorities and will address some of the issues raised by them. These two collections are important, I argue, because they demonstrate how aesthetic considerations shape medical knowledge and wider attitudes about the human body.
