韩国译学源流考

本文考察了韩国译学创立初期的历史、朝鲜朝译学制度的建立以及译事的兴起。从韩国译学的肇始、译学机构司译院状况、当时译学的学术形式(四学、译学与吏学)等几个方面,论述了韩国译学史所具有的独特特点。结论是朝鲜译学研究的兴衰、对翻译实践的需求程度、对外文化交流的深度,与当时政府的重视程度密切相关;梳理韩国古代译学发展史,可以同时摸索中韩文化交流史的历史脉络。

On the representation of elegance in EST translation

Scientific and technical literature and information focus on scientific truth, explaining natural phenomena objectively, probing into scientific issues, communicating research achievements and summarizing the experience. The language of technical articles should be concise and accurate. High-quality technical translation should also have aesthetic value, literary grace and elegant style. Many technical translators think that faithfulness and smoothness are the primary principles in technical translation, while elegance is just an ornamental standard which values little. The author considers elegance in EST translation should be the perfect unity of faithfulness and elegance. This paper analyses the criteria for technical translation, explores the representation of elegance in technical articles, and emphasizes that the literary value should be thoroughly appreciated.

Assessing Sexual Function amongst Hong Kong Chinese Patients with Gynecological Cancer： Translation and Validation of the Sexual Function-Vaginal Changes Questionnaire （SVQ）

OBJECTIVE The study aims to translate the Sexual FunctionVaginal Changes Questionnaire （SVQ） into Chinese and to establish its psychometric properties.METHODS A Chinese SVQ was developed by the use of the Brislin model of translation. The content validity and semantic equivalence were assessed by an expert panel. The translated version of SVQ was administered to 75 Hong Kong Chinese women who were suffered from gynecological cancer to test its psychometric properties.RESULTS The Chinese version of SVQ was compared to the original study for factor analysis. Internal consistency, itemtoscale correlations and test-retest reliability were high. The convergent and divergent validities supported the Chinese SVQ to CONCLUSION We conclude that the Chinese SVQ appears to be a valid, reliable and feasible disease-specific tool for the assessment of sexual function among Chinese patients.

Out-of-core clustering of volumetric datasets

In this paper we present a novel method for dividing and clustering large volumetric scalar out-of-core datasets. This work is based on the Ordered Cluster Binary Tree (OCBT) structure created using a top-down or divisive clustering method. The OCBT structure allows fast and efficient sub volume queries to be made in combination with level of detail (LOD) queries of the tree. The initial partitioning of the large out-of-core dataset is done by using non-axis aligned planes calculated using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A hybrid OCBT structure is also proposed where an in-core cluster binary tree is combined with a large out-of-core file.

New Ideas on Teaching Translation

With the rapid development of the society, some new questions of how to teach translation more scientifically have been put forward to the traditional translation teaching in the new century, which is characterized with high informationization and rapid development of science and technology. This paper aims at a general analysis of the characteristics of the modem society and its impact on translation teaching. Meanwhile, this paper provides the translation teachers with some teaching methods and concepts. Finally, this paper points out that translation teachers must take the characteristcs of the modem society in the new century into consideration, and tries to follow some new ideas when teaching translation so as to adapt to the social changes and achieve the goal of translation teaching in the universities.

What Is Going on in the Minds of Translators？ A Review of Studies on Translation Process

Border areas have provided significant new research questions as well as fruitful insights and hypotheses. The cognitive and neuropsychologic study of translation process is a good example of this kind. This paper has surveyed various researches on translation process. Studies related to ＂the black box of translation＂ are divided into two categories, i.e., studies adopting think-aloud protocols, and studies from the physiology and neuroscientific perspectives. It has been noted that those studies on translation process have made some progress in the past years Firstly, the participants have undergone a change from language learners to professional translators or interpreters Secondly, the purposes of the studies have a tendency of gradually becoming specific. Thirdly, more rigorous methodologies have been developed, with more and more new technological approaches being applied

Translation Study on Figurative Rhetoric in Folding Beijing From the Perspective of Skopos Theory

HAO Jing-fang, a Chinese writer with her novel Folding Beoing, was awarded the 2016 Hugo Award, the top award in global science fiction community, the second for Chinese science fiction writers after LIU Ci-xin for his The Three-Body Problem, which stroke a strong shockwave to the science fiction community around the world. It cannot be denied that Ken LIU＇s translation has played an irreplaceable role in the success of Folding Beijing Unfortunately, there are a few studies on LIU＇s translation of Folding Beoing, let alone with Skopos theory. This paper refers to massive studies on it by scholars at home and abroad and is based on a careful reading of Folding Beifing, its translation counterpart and concludes that the translator adopts Skopos theory in translating figurative rhetoric by linking the three basic roles with the LIU＇s ideas on translation. This paper studies the translation on the figurative rhetoric in Folding Beijing and extracts so many typical sentences as to certify the flexible strategies and methods adopted by the author under Skopos theory, which conforms to the reading habit and taste of the target audience and provides a paradigm for the future translation of Chinese science fictions

Teaching Cultural Strategies for Undergraduate Chinese-English Translation in Chinese Context

Although in China, ordinary translation theories favor the foreignizing strategy in translating culture, and outside China, there are opposing strategies between the cultural studies school and deconstructionist school, translation teachers should be fully aware of their respective revelations and limitations to translation teaching. This paper holds that in undergraduate C-E （Chinese-English~ translation teaching, the linguistic strategy is assimilation rather than alienation, thus, idiomaticness and preciseness should be emphasized. In teaching cultural translation strategy, first, we should promote students＇ cultural competence, which includes culture perceptive competence, culture comparison competence, culture evaluation competence, and culture mediation competence. Second, we need differentiate cultural strategies to translate literary and practical materials. In translating practical materials, functionality determines adaptation or exoticization; in translating literary materials, when cultural factor is the topic of writing, exoticization is employed for the main except that part of politeness system in institutional culture, abstract concrete conversion and description affection model in spiritual culture are adapted. When cultural factor is the background of writing, it is the target text aestheticality and readership intertextuality that determine adaptation or exoticization.

Query Expansion Using Wikipedia and a Concept Base in Cross-language Information Retrieval

The present paper describes the use of online free language resources for translating and expanding queries in CLIR （cross-language information retrieval）. In a previous study, we proposed method queries that were translated by two machine translation systems on the Language Gridem. The queries were then expanded using an online dictionary to translate compound words or word phrases. A concept base was used to compare back translation words with the original query in order to delete mistranslated words. In order to evaluate the proposed method, we constructed a CLIR system and used the science documents of the NTCIR1 dataset. The proposed method achieved high precision. However~ proper nouns （names of people and places） appear infrequently in science documents. In information retrieval, proper nouns present unique problems. Since proper nouns are usually unknown words, they are difficult to find in monolingual dictionaries, not to mention bilingual dictionaries. Furthermore, the initial query of the user is not always the best description of the desired information. In order to solve this problem, and to create a better query representation, query expansion is often proposed as a solution. Wikipedia was used to translate compound words or word phrases. It was also used to expand queries together with a concept base. The NTCIRI and NTCIR 6 datasets were used to evaluate the proposed method. In the proposed method, the CLIR system was implemented with a high rate of precision. The proposed syst had a higher ranking than the NTCIRI and NTCIR6 participation systems.

Lack of correlation between aristolochic acid exposure and hepatocellular carcinoma

Besides upper tract urothelial cell carcinoma(UTUCs),a recent study published in Science Translational Medicine has indicated that liver cancer may be associated with the exposure of aristolochic acids and similar derivatives(collectively,AA).However,according to our research,this study needs more number of samples for further verification which should be sampled from a wider range of people.

From Pygmalion to Confucius Saw Nancy

Translation is not just a tool in knowledge learning and cross-cultural commtmication but also an apprenticeship or respiration for writers. Writers use translation to prepare themselves for their own work, or to seek distraction or alternative voices in the works of the writers they admire. This paper attempts to nxake an interdisciplinary study of the relationship between translation and imitation by performing a case study of Bernard Shaw＇s Pygmalion and Lin Yu-tang＇s Confucius Saw Nancy, both translated by the writer Lin Yu-tang. The article argues that by reading and translating works in other languages, a writer can not only enrich his own writing but also use another language and literary system to examine his own work.
