Regional warming induced by urban surface expansion in Shanghai

To detect the impacts of urban surface expansion on surface air temperature at 2-m(SAT) in Shanghai, China, nested numerical integrations based on satellite-derived urban data between the 1980 s and 2010 s were performed using the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF) model. Urban surface expansion induced an annual-averaged warming of 0.31 °C from 1980 to 2016 across the whole of Shanghai, showing the greatest intensity between 2010 and 2016. The values were 0.36, 0.78, and 0.75 °C over grids that were classified as urban in both time periods(U2 U), landuse grids that changed from non-urban to urban(N2 U), and urban areas(including U2 U and N2 U), respectively, and revealed weak warming over the inner-ring areas because the urban surfaces had been there since the 1980 s, whereas warming areas were coincident with the outward expansion of the urban surface. Meanwhile, marked seasonal variations could be detected, which were greater in spring and summer but less in autumn and winter. The approximately homogenously distributed SAT maximum(weaker) and heterogeneously SAT minimum(stronger) contributed to the decreased diurnal temperature range. Regional warming induced by urban surface expansion was approximately 0.12 °C per decade, which accounted for 19% of the overall warming across the whole of Shanghai. The values were 0.11 °C per decade and 0.39 °C per decade over U2 U and N2 U, which accounted for approximately 17% and 42% of the overall warming, respectively, and resulted in approximately 41% of the overall warming over urban areas. 展开更多

Aiming to effectively solve the problem of deep mining with safety and high efficiency, according to geological conditions, production and stress analysis in roadway surrounding rock, experimental studies on roadway supporting of workface 103 under three types of roof conditions with different supporting technologies and parameters were carried out based on the theory of supporting technology of gob-side entry. The results show the supporting of gob-side entry retaining is successful, and the deep surrounding rock is effectively controlled by field monitoring and drilling-hole photos. After stress in surrounding rock of roadways restores stable, the final roadway deformation of surrounding rock of haulage roadway and air-roadway are both about 300 mm; width of gob-side entry is 3.8-4.0 m and average height is 2.0-2.2 m; roadway section is above 8.0 m^2, which solves the problems of gob-side entry retaining support strength and safe mining; necessary conditions of mining safety in workface 103 are met. 展开更多

This paper introduces the idea of a framework for the implementation of novel downhole probes. A couple of examples (e.g. a tracer detector, a casing smear test probe or a casing repair probe) demonstrate that many components can be reused. These are the "bricks" of the ZWERG toolkit which is developed to match the environment in boreholes. Two "bricks" are described in detail: The housing (1) has to resist the pressure and other mechanical stress in deep holes. The selection of the material and the calculation of the wall thickness are the main interests. In many applications, a thermal management (2) of the inside of the probe is absolutely necessary. A dewar vessel can uncouple the heat of the geothermal reservoir and the temperature in the probe. It is important to understand the physical heat flow mechanisms. A set of formulas allows a good estimation of the quantity of heat that warms up the probe. The toolkit contains some immaterial "bricks" like blueprints of proven designs or support for the logistic process of finding and purchasing compatible components. The intention to drill near magma chambers calls for a common eflbrt of the geothermal community to gather compatible components, assemblies and knowhow and makes it widely available. The comparative research on the seismic performance of grouted sleeve connected pier(GS)and prestressed precast segmental concrete pier(PC)is mostly carried out by numerical simulation.In this study,the GS pier and the PC pier of the new railway project from Hetian to Ruoqiang are taken into consideration.Two kinds of 1/5-scale assembled double-column specimens are made,and the quasi-static tests are carried out.The overall seismic performance of the two spliced piers is studied,and compared in terms of failure mechanism,bearing capacity,ductility,stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.The results show that the failure modes of both GS pier and PC pier are characterized by bending.However,the specific failure location and form are different.The GS pier presents a complete hysteretic curve,large equivalent stiffness and strong energy dissipation capacity.The hysteretic area of the PC pier is small.However,it has good self-reset ability and quasi-static residual displacement.Finite element models are set up using DispBeamColumn fiber elements and ZeroLength elements.The models that are calibrated with the test data can effectively simulate the damage development under monotonic loading.The load−displacement curves are in good agreement with the backbone curves of the test results. 展开更多

Locating arrays are of interest in generating software test suites to cover all t-way component interactions and locate interaction faults in component-based systems.Recently,Tang,Colbourn and Yin made an investigation into optimal locating arrays in the case where a single fault is to be located.They pointed out that when two or more faults were considered,matters would become rather complicated.To handle those cases generally seems challenging,but is well worth further research.In this paper,we establish a lower bound on the size of locating arrays with at most two faults,and then prove that optimal locating arrays meeting this bound can be equivalently characterized in terms of orthogonal arrays with prescribed properties.Using this characterization,we develop a number of constructions of optimal locating arrays.Two infinite series of optimal locating arrays are then obtained. 展开更多

This paper proposes the corrected likelihood ratio test (LRT) and large-dimensional trace criterion to test the independence of two large sets of multivariate variables of dimensions P1 and P2 when the dimensions P = P1 + P2 and the sample size n tend to infinity simultaneously and proportionally. Both theoretical and simulation results demonstrate that the traditional X2 approximation of the LRT performs poorly when the dimension p is large relative to the sample size n, while the corrected LRT and large-dimensional trace criterion behave well when the dimension is either small or large relative to the sample size. Moreover, the trace criterion can be used in the case of p 〉 n, while the corrected LRT is unfeasible due to the loss of definition. 展开更多

Post-J test inference means that the inference problem is considered by taking the first stage J test into account. We first propose a post-J test estimator and derive its asymptotic distribution. We then consider the test problem of the unknown parameters, and a Wald statistic based on the post-J test estimator is proposed. A simulation study shows that the proposed Wald statistic works perfectly as well as the two-stage test from the view of the empirical size and power in large-sample cases, and when the sample size is small, it is even better. As a result,the new Wald statistic can be used directly to test the hypotheses on the unknown parameters in non-nested linear regression models. 展开更多
