In order to improve the surface performace of epoxy asphalt pavement (EAP) for steel bridge deck, an epoxy asphalt chip seal ( ECS) covered by a cationic emulsified asphalt fog seal (i. e., fog-sealed chip seal) isproposed and a laboratory study is conducted to design and evaluate te fog-sealed chip seal. First, the evaluation indices and methods of te chip seal on steel bridge deck pavement were proposed. Secondly, the worst pavement conditions during te maintenance time were simulated by te small traffic load simulation system MMLS3 and the short-term aging test for minimizing the failure probability of chip seal. Finally, the design parameters of fog-sealed chip seal were determined by the experimental analysis and the performance of the designed fog-sealed chip seal was evaluated in thelaboratory. Results indicate that the proposed simulation method of pavement conditions is effective and the maximal load repetitions on the EAPslab specimen are approximately 925 300 times. Moreover, the designed fog-sealedchip sealcan provide a dense surface with sufficient skid resistance,aggregate-asphalt aahesive performance and interlayer shearing resistance. 展开更多

[Result] The liver functions of some transgenic sFat-1 gene pigs were hurted lightly,and the reproductive performance also decreased lightly. The manifold physical signals including micro resistance,infrared thermal signal and acoustic emission signal in the tensile test for double-material friction welding normative samples were monitored and collected dynamically by TH2512 micro resistance measuring apparatus,flir infrared thermal camera and acoustic emission equipment which possesses 18 bit PCI-2 data acquisition board.Applied acoustic emission and thermal infrared NDT(non-destructive testing) means were used to verify the feasibility of using resistance method and to monitor dynamic damage of the samples.The research of the dynamic monitoring system was carried out with multi-information fusion including resistance,infrared and acoustic emission.The results show that the resistance signal,infrared signal and acoustic emission signal collected synchronously in the injury process of samples have a good mapping.Electrical,thermal and acoustic signals can more accurately capture initiation and development of micro-defects in the sample.Using dynamic micro-resistance method to monitor damage is possible.The method of multi-information fusion monitoring damage possesses higher reliability,which makes the establishing of health condition diagnosing and early warning platform with multiple physical information monitoring possible. 展开更多

Characterization of Placic Horizons in Ironstone Soils of Louisiana, USA

Placic horizons, defined as thin, wavy, hardened layers of iron and organic matter, are rare within the United States, occurring only in Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. While ironstone is common in many soils of the southeastern United States, it is not known to contain appreciable organic matter. As a pilot study evaluating the justification for a larger study on ironstone in Louisiana, a 40 m lateral exposure with suspected placic horizons was evaluated in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. Results of laboratory analysis show elevated levels of iron and organic matter in the suspect horizons that meet the criteria of placic horizons as defined by the Soil Survey Staff. Based on the results of this study, additional evaluation of multiple pedons with similar features is warranted. Should additional pedons demonstrate similar properties, a new great group of 'Petrudepts' would be needed to describe both the placic horizons in the pedon and the udic moisture regime in which they occur. 展开更多

Reduced-intensity conditioning allogeneic stem cell transplantation in malignant lymphoma: current status

Myeloablative conditioning allo-SCT is associated with high mo... stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) is a potential cure for patients with malignant lymphoma that is based on the graft-versus-lymphoma (GVL) effect. Myeloablative conditioning allo-SCT is associated with high mortality and morbidity, particularly in patients older than 45 years, heavily pretreated patients (prior hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or more than two lines of conventional chemotherapy) or patients affected by other comorbidities. Therefore, conventional allo-SCT is restricted to younger patients (〈50 to 55 years) in good physical condition. Over the last decade, allo-SCT with reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC-allo-SCT) has been increasingly used to treat patients with lymphoma. This treatment is associated with lower toxicity and substantial decrease in the incidence of transplant- related mortality, and has the potential to lead to long-term remissions. Therefore, patients who are not suitable to undergo conventional allo-SCT can benefit from the potentially curative GVL effects of allo-SCT. Although RIC-allo-SCT has improved the survival of lymphoma patients, high post-transplant relapse rates or disease progression mainly results in treatment failure. Thus, further improvement is clearly needed. The role and timing of RIC-allo-SCT in the treatment of lymphoma remains unclear. Therefore, more prospective studies should clarify the effectiveness of this method. In this article, we review the recent literature on RIC-alIo-SCT as a treatment for major lymphoma subtypes. Areas that require further investigation in the context of clinical trials are also highlighted. 展开更多

Description of the Health Status of Colombian Indigenous Communities Through Basic Laboratory Tests

Colombia enjoys considerable ethnic diversity, although its indigenous population, part of the world's shared cultural heritage has been reduced by various factors, including displacement, poverty, and poor access to timely and quality healthcare. The present study is focused on diagnosing health problems, particularly anemia, through a description of hematological findings amongst men and woman aged 18 to 50 years, living at various altitudes, and belonging to several different indigenous communities: the Huitoto and Embera of Caqueta, Florencia; the Born, Muinane, Okaina, Huitoto communities of La Chorrera, Amazonas; and the Yanaconas of Bogota, D.C. Tests performed included automated hemogram tests, ferritin, c-reactive protein, and parasitological assessment to correlate the presence of anemia and parasitism. The authors used a quantitative and transversal, structured, non-experimental, correlational, stratified sample design with 105 samples (51 men, 54 women). The results showed that 7.8% (4/51) of the men had anemia, compared with 29.6% (16/54) of the women--more than triple the incidence of the male population. Moreover, we found a higher incidence of anemia in rural areas, where the majority of the country's indigenous populations live. In the parasitological study, 87.7% (50/57) of the participants tested positive for intestinal parasites. These findings are expected to help authorities implement more effective responses to health issues in these communities. 展开更多
