高校英语教育专业要求本专业学生拥有扎实的语言知识,并且能够熟练使用英语进行沟通交流,在开展语法教学时,传统的单一口述式方法过于枯燥无聊,学生在学习时很容易产生厌学心理,大大降低学习效率。虽然教育学者采取了一定的改革措施,但... 高校英语教育专业要求本专业学生拥有扎实的语言知识,并且能够熟练使用英语进行沟通交流,在开展语法教学时,传统的单一口述式方法过于枯燥无聊,学生在学习时很容易产生厌学心理,大大降低学习效率。虽然教育学者采取了一定的改革措施,但是都不能从根本上提高英语语法教学效率。对高校英语教育专业语法教学进行研究,基于高校英语教育专业语法教学现状给出了教学改革措施,分别为塑造真实的语言学习活动、教师和学生共同构建语法知识、促进学生将语法知识应用到现实生活中,并研究了语法教学创新方案,集中归纳创新法和重点强化突破法。通过本文的分析可以发现本文给出的教学改革措施以及创新方案能够有效提高高校英语教育专业语法教学效率,强化学生的学习,是未来必然的发展方向。 展开更多

Every day communication is an event in which there is an interactional relationship between interlocutors. This interaction needs whole language in which language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing; associated knowledge of vocabulary, meaning, syntax, etc.; and also, thinking skills are interwoven. This means that language should be kept whole and "if language isn't kept whole, it isn't language anymore" (Rigg, 1991, p. 522, cited in Richards & Rodgers, 2001, p. 109). In English as a Second Language/English Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) learning settings, improvement in one skill can affect the development of other skills. A particular course may highlight certain skills, but if the teacher is creative or specific tasks and problems are used in language learning settings, learners are provided with the opportunity to improve multiple, integrated skills. This paper aims at elaborating on critical thinking approach to language learning and introducing practical ideas for helping teachers to integrate language and thinking skills. It introduces 3 critical thinking activities (Dialogue journals, reading logs and literacy portfolios), and also discusses how implementing them can serves as a way to integrate language skills. It also maintains that engaging learners in these activities helps them use authentic materials and solve problems of their own interest that in turn has a positive effect on student's motivation. 展开更多

Spelling errors can be classified into whole word errors, faulty graphemes and faulty phonemes in which graphemes are deleted, added, reversed or substituted. They can be used for identifying phonological and orthographic problems; spelling strategies that EFL students use in spelling English; spelling error causes or sources and relationship between spelling and decoding weaknesses. The paper gives examples of spelling errors and shows how spelling errors are quantified. Recommendations for remediation are also given. 展开更多

This study aimed to examine some coursebooks of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to see whether they involve any cross-cultural topics belonging to different cultures from different countries in the world. Assuming that EFL coursebooks written after the communicative movements in foreign language teaching and learning in the 1970s and the 1980s would have a plenty of cross-cultural elements, it was expected to see these coursebooks would also have a lot of cross-cultural elements, especially regarding their publication dates. This study aimed to investigate to what extent teaching materials used in EFL setting involve intercultural elements. Accordingly, 5 coursebooks were evaluated, and topics and number of cross-cultural elements were presented. The coursebooks used in the study were published in 1998, 1999, 1999, 2001 and 2006 namely. However, as the results displayed, the frequency of cross-cultural elements were not mutually related to their publication dates. The distribution and frequency of cross-cultural elements were not balanced with the dates chronologically. 展开更多

In the present era of job-oriented education how the accurate language learning and strengthening of skills facilitate one's career building is discussed here. The present paper focuses on independent, collaborative and supportive learning environment in the class to mould the reluctant learners. It also brings out the differences between conventional learning and technology assisted learning. In the midst of thousands of soft ware available, it is difficult for one to choose which is most suitable, to use friendly English learning process and which will be specific, more and more learners center and the need for such soft wares is given specific high light here.
