历史语用学研究现状与展望

历史语用学是历史语言学内部一个相对年轻的分支学科。因其对历史语料的处理借鉴了语用学理论和分析框架以及社会语言学的调查分析方法而具有一定程度的跨学科性。本文围绕几次国际语用学重要的学术会议和《历史语用学杂志》的创办,综论历史语用学的兴起和发展、历史语用学的两大范式(语用语文学研究和历时语用学研究),以及历时语用学研究的不同取向与主要课题,展望历史语用学的未来发展。

Analysis of English literary works based on face theory

Brown ＆ Levinson＇s face theory is an important theory in Pragmatics and it is an influential theory in expounding the phenomenon of politeness. Through an analysis of the functions of ＂face＂ in English literary works, this article intends to shed new lights on literary pragmatics.

A Study on the Word-formation of Chinese Coordinative Compound Words Denoting Kinship＊

In Chinese, compound words denoting kinship axe frequently used. This paper classifies such words into two categories： coordinative and non-coordinative. Each type has subcategories. Under the framework of Distributed Morphology, this paper focuses on the coordinative compound words. They consist of two roots which finally form a NP with the category-giving morpheme. Besides, there are some idioms and infrequent uses which can be explained in the Encyclopedia.

Silence in Conversation

Types of communicative behaviors consists of verbal communication and non-verbal communication. It is generally believed that the latter refers to concrete language people use to produce an utterance, while the latter mainly refers to body language as well as silence in a conversation. Silence is another way of communication and is part of a conversation. In different culture, silence may have different representative meanings and intentions, because of the various cultural background of each country or nation in the whole world. From the perspective ofpragmatics, silence plays an important role in a particular situation, and it has its own functions in communication.

Literature and the Teaching of Stylistics： An Investigation Into the Pragmatics of Community Formation in the Educational Context of Namibia

The author＇s paper is an attempt to investigate the success of the pedagogy of stylistics and pedagogical stylistics in the Namibian context. As an applied linguistics course, stylistics is eminently suitable for study and analysis of literature, because it clearly explicates literary effects through linguistic analysis. Many scholars have illustrated the use of stylistics analysis for the purposes of studying literature and teaching it, which is, pedagogical stylistics. However, this paper combines both the study of Stylistics as a discipline, which is the pedagogy of Stylistics, and the use of stylistics for teaching literature in general and poetry in particular. Namibia adopted English as its official language 22 years ago. Since then, both teachers and students have been struggling with the analysis of poetry. This study is an empirical one using qualitative methods in the author＇s research to determine the impact of the study of Stylistics on the understanding and teaching of literature in Namibia. The author uses traditional British poetry from the 16th century up to the 20th century alongside postcolonial poetry to assess the importance of culture in understanding poetry and examine the advantage of using stylistics to teach the poems that the author selects.

An Investigation of the Misuse of English Articles of Chinese English Learners

English articles belong to a category of high frequency words. However, they also have been considered as one of the most difficult part and latest part to be fully acquired by non-native speakers. Because of this reason, a lot of efforts have been made to research into the acquisition of them. In China, researches on the article system were mainly focused on the analysis of functions and description of the usage. This essay intends to explore the distribution and features of English article errors made by Chinese EFL （English as a Foreign Language） learners both horizontally and longitudinally with the hope to find the possible factors which lead to the errors, so as to throw some light on English articles learning and teaching

The Application of English Songs in Higher Vocational College English Teaching

Due to the arrival of the era of globalization, English has become an important foreign language in China. People with high English proficiency have more opportunities and better competitiveness in the global job market. Therefore, more and more people attach importance to learn English. English songs play an important role in English teaching and they have been used as teaching materials in the field of language learning for a long time They can not only effectively stimulate students＇ interest in learning but also improve the quality and efficiency of English teaching. This instruction can enhance learners＇ motivation, learning attitude, and the comprehension of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Some linguists believe that they can affect one＇s language learning abilities. Thus, more and more teachers and researchers try to find out how the English songs can improve the learners＇ English level. So, this paper aims to explore how to apply English songs to higher vocational English teaching.

English Cultural Introduction Teaching from the Perspective of Applied Linguistics

In the process of learning a language, the language communication from the perspective of applied linguistics cannot exist without certain cultural tendency. Practice proves that an appropriate introduction of the background culture having a certain relationship with language environment can enrich the knowledge structure of students, and effectively remove the obstacles in the process of English language communication, so that the cognitive ability is improved. In this paper, applied linguistics as well as the concept of cultural introduction teaching theory is briefly elaborated, and the necessities of cultural introduction teaching and the signiflcances of English cultural introduction teaching are analyzed, and also some rules necessary to follow in the introduction teaching of English culture are introduced, and then the implementation strategies are discussed, so as to provide a reference for a large number of educational workers.

On Dilemma Analysis and Reasonable Measure Construction of Higher Vocational College English

English is used an important course of higher vocational colleges, which can greatly improve stuctents＂ language application ability to a great extent and it can also make students understand western culture knowledge through foreign language learning. But in current higher vocational colleges, it faces many dilemmas. Only by correctly analyzing these dilemmas will it propose corresponding reasonab!e solutions, which is good for English education development of higher vocational colleges and improving English level of higher vocational college students.

The Pragmatics of Pronoun Choice in China English： Corpus Evidence from Advanced English Students＇ Oral Proficiency Exam

China English is defined as a developing variety of international English spoken in China with some characteristic features at the level of phonology, grammar, lexis and pragmatics. The authors present the analysis of the use of the first-person plural pronoun we by Chinese senior English majors in spoken English as a way of illustrating how the pragmatic features of these students＇ choice of first-person pronoun manifest according to their social positions. Analysis finds that for these speakers we is used in ways that are consistent with wo-men, first person plural pronoun in Chinese, which is often used ambiguously for non-specific reference. Findings indicate that speakers lacking social power will use the pronoun to reproduce a mainstream or generic discourse. The authors conclude by arguing that Chinese university students＇ use of we can simultaneously be seen as an expression of their English language proficiency and as an adherence to Chinese cultural and pragmatic norms.
