Much debate has surrounded the question of whether middle-school students can learn academic content if they do not yet have a high level of proficiency in the English language, but content-based instruction has already been used to promote both the linguistic and academic development of CLD (culturally and linguistically diverse) students in the grade K-12 in Western countries. This proposal discusses the issues and dilemmas about the curriculum implementation in the EFL (English as a foreign language) education in China’s middle-schools and examines the nature of integrated contend-based (ICB) instruction by providing its rationale, definition, evolution, and delivery, and based on the above, it explores an excellent venue that the ICB could provide for Chinese student’s EFL learning and calls for the application of the curriculum of ICB into the EFL instruction in China’s secondary education. 展开更多

From the perspective of the sociology of knowledge, the teacher professional development is a process of transformation of the role of teachers, and role transformation and the way of actors involved in the knowledge are associated. Participating in knowledge in different ways, role types are also different. Thus, changing the way ofparticipating in knowledge is the basic way to participate in the transformation of the role. Classification of roles is not the classification ofhumans.A social may might play many roles of many types in his life andmay have the function of a variety of roles at the same time. Meanwhile, it can be transferred between characters, especially in the case of depending on the same knowledge system.As long as the ways of involvement are different,the functions and types of roles are also different. University teachers are those who play a variety of roles of knowledge and society, some being the teaching teachers of organization and dissemination of knowledge, some being scientific and teaching teachers who focus on organizing and disseminating knowledge as well as knowledge creation, and knowledge creation and heavy teacher teaching and research, while others are knowledge creation based research teachers. In the field of the sociology of knowledge, university teachers should be scientific teaching roles depending on a deep knowledge and participating in knowledge in a variety of ways. From the perspective of the sociology of knowledge, according to Eph · Znaniecki' s role classification, university teachers participate in knowledge in three ways: teaching, learning and researching. Teaching, learning and researching are relative but different ways of participating in knowledge. State they are relative because itshows teaching can promote learning, learning can promote researching, researching can also promote learning and teaching. Empowerment in learning has been a topic of discussion for the last two decades. Empowered learners are not only believed to achieve greater content learning but are also thought to better demonstrate competencies such as communication, teamwork, and problem solving. These competencies are becoming increasingly important as the role of professional accountants evolves and diversifies. This paper examines first-year accounting students' perceptions of empowerment based on two different learning styles: cooperative learning and traditional classroom instruction. A quantitative research design was used to survey 279 first-year business degree students studying at institutions in Libya. The results indicated that students who attended cooperative learning classes were more empowered in terms of the impact they believed they could have on class discussions and the meaningfulness they attributed to the tasks being discussed. In addition, students taught by cooperative learning methods recorded significantly higher end of term exam results than those students who received traditional classroom instruction. In conclusion, this research indicates that the teaching method used in classroom instruction may impact an accounting student's levels of empowerment and subsequently their critical thinking, problem solving, writing skills, and technical accounting competencies. 展开更多

Background:There is little information describing the perceptions of gastroenterology fellows and attending gastroenterologists of what constitutes effective teaching of endoscopy.We sought to identify common themes regarding endoscopy training methods and their impact among fellows and attendings.Methods:Focus group exercises and surveys were conducted among fellows,about educational resources,teaching techniques and ways of improving the teaching of endoscopy.The fellows identified the‘best’teachers of endoscopy,who were interviewed regarding their training in endoscopy,their teaching methods,key points of information,and opinions on endoscopy curriculum.Results:Nineteen fellows(68%)had attended the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy First Year Fellows’Endoscopy course and found it very helpful.Thirteen fellows(46%)had exposure to an endoscopy simulator,but their median duration of use was only 1 hour.Only two out of five fellowship programs used a formal endoscopic skill assessment tool and none of the programs had an endoscopy curriculum of which the fellows were aware.Fellows reported that they learned endoscopy best by performing procedures.They also volunteered that attending gastroenterologists used variable teaching methods,and might benefit from instruction on how to teach endoscopy.Ten attending gastroenterologists(77%)had received training in advanced procedures;none received formal training on teaching endoscopy:they all felt that such training would be beneficial.Conclusions:A standardized endoscopy curriculum may be beneficial to fellows,who prefer to learn endoscopy by performing procedures—but they want explicit and specific instruction.Both those attending and the fellows thought that formal instruction for attending gastroenterologists on how to teach endoscopy would be beneficial,indicating a role for a‘teachthe-teacher’curriculum. 展开更多
