We propose and analyze a novel Si-based electro-optic modulator with an improved metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) capacitor configuration integrated into silicon-on-insulator (SOl). Three gate-oxide layers embedded in the silicon waveguide constitute a triple MOS capacitor structure, which boosts the modulation efficiency compared with a single MOS capacitor. The simulation results demonstrate that the Vπ Lπ product is 2. 4V · cm. The rise time and fall time of the proposed device are calculated to be 80 and 40ps from the transient response curve, respectively,indicating a bandwidth of 8GHz. The phase shift efficiency and bandwidth can be enhanced by rib width scaling. 展开更多

This paper introduces a novel digital transceiver for the cordless telephone zero (CT0) standard,which uses a digital modulation and demodulation technique to handle the signal instead of the traditional analog meth-od. In the transmitter,a fractional-N phase locked loop (PLL) is utilized to realize the continuous phase frequency shift key (CPFSK) modulation,and a 2 Ts raised cosine (2RC) shaping technique is used to reduce the occupied bandwidth. In the receiver,a novel digital method is proposed to demodulate the 2RC CPFSK signal. This chip is fabricated using an SMIC 0.35μm mixed signal CMOS process with a die size of 2mm × 2mm. With an external low noise amplifier (LNA),the sensitivity of the chip is better than -103dBm. 展开更多

The multi step control laws given can exponentially stabilize the dynamic system and make the distance between two robots be greater than or equal to the collision free safe distance. Compared to other compensation methods,the technique proposed here is relatively simple and easy to implement. Key building blocks for realizing the noise cancellation,including the delay variable PFD and compensation current source, are specially designed. An end-effector for a flexible drilling robot is designed, and a novel four-point algorithm of normal attitude regulation for this end-effector is presented. Four non-coplanar points can define a unique sphere tangent to them in spatial geometry, and the center point of the sphere and the radius can be calculated. The shape of a workpiece surface in the machining area is approximately regarded as such a sphere. A vector from the machining point to the center point is thus approximately regarded as a normal vector to the workpiece surface. By this principle, the algorithm first measures four coordinates on the curve in the drilling region using four sensors and calculates the normal vector at the drilling point, then calculates the error between the normal vector and the axis of the spindle. According to this error, the algorithm further figures out the angles of two revolving axes on the end- effector and the displacements of three linear axes on the robot main body, thus it implements the function of adjusting the spindle to be perpendicular to the curve at the drilling point. Simulation results of two kinds of curved surfaces show that accuracy and efficiency can be realized using the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

All-optical regeneration based on self-phase modulation in microstructured fibers is studied. The effects of pulse peak power into the fiber, pulse width and filter parameters on the performance of the regenerator are investigated. The effects of normal dispersion and anomalous dispersion of the microstructured fiber on optical regeneration are compared. The nu- merical results show that optical regeneration can be achieved by using microstructured fibers with normal dispersion or anomalous dispersion, but the normal dispersion decreases the oscillatory structure in the broadened spectra and obtain a better regenerator transfer function. In order to achieve optical regeneration, the input peak power into the microstructured fiber and the filter parameters need to meet certain requirements. By optimizing those parameters, a better regeneration result can be obtained. 展开更多

The alignment coupling between optical waveguide chips and optical fiber arrays is the basis of the alignment coupling of planar optical waveguide devices, and the precise position detection with angle and spacing adjustments is one of the key steps of alignment coupling. A methodology for position detection, and angle and spacing adjustment was proposed for optical waveguide chips and optical fiber arrays based on machine vision. The experimental results show angle detection precision levels higher than 0.05°, line detection precision levels higher than 0.1 μm, and detection time less than 2 s. Therefore, the system developed herein meets the precise requirements necessary for position detection, and angle and spacing adjustments for optical waveguide chips and optical fiber arrays. 展开更多

Optical Time Division Multiplexing (OTDM) is known to be capable of transmitting single channel high bit rate data stream with low speed electro-optical components. A cost-effective, compact and stable short time window with low insert loss, low phase noise, low timing-jitter and high speed performance is essential for ultra-high speed OTDM systems using phase and amplitude modulation formats. In this paper, we review three promising methods to obtain 40 GHz short time window including Electro-Absorption Modulator (EAM), Dual-Parallel Mach-Zehnder Modulator (DPMZM) and Fiber Loop-Polarization Modulator (FL-PolM). Sub-picosecond short pulse source generation, optical time division denlaltiplexing and clock recovery are realized respectively by using the short time window based on the three methods. By using DPMZM based pulse source and EAM based Clock Recovery (CR) and dermltiplexer, error free transmission of 640 Goit/s (160 Gbaud/s Pol-Mux DQPSK) single channel signal over 400 km single mode fiber is proven to be experimentally successful. 展开更多

This paper mobile robot's driving algorithm of unknown dynamic envirormaent in order to drive intelligently to destination using ultrasonic and Global Positional Systern (GPS). Sensors adjusted the placement dependment on driving of robot, and the robot plans the evasion method according to obstacle which are detected by sensors. The robot saves GPS coordinate of complex obstacle. If there are many repeated driving, robot creates new obstacles to the hr, ation by itself. And then it drives to the destination resolving a large range of local minirmnn point If it needs an intelligent circtmtantial decision, a proposed algorithm is suited for effective obstacle avoidance and arrival at the destination by performing simulations. 展开更多

This paper presents a new approach to alleviate the harmonics and to enhance the power factor of the ASD (adjustable speed drive). A conventional ASD with 2-level PWM (pulse width modulation) inverters generate high dv/dt and high frequency common mode voltages which are harmful for the drive applications. It reduces the motor bearings life and conducted EMI (electro magnetic interference) deteriorates the insulation. In this paper, a diode clamped multilevel (3-level) inverter is used to perform dual task. It generates HF (high frequency) current to be injected at the input of the three-phase front-end rectifier thereby improving the harmonic spectra and the power factor. It also drives the induction motor. The salient feature of this paper is that it does not require separate converters for improving power factor and to drive induction motor. Furthermore, inverter switches operate with ZVS (zero voltage switching), thus reducing the switching losses substantially, The voltage stress of the switches also has been reduced to half of the conventional 2-level converter. The inverter is operated with SPWM (sinusoidal pulse width modulation) technique. The simulation results for a prototype of 2.2 kW are presented. 展开更多

The electric vehicle charging stations communicate with the grid. In V2G (vehicle to grid) mode, electric vehicles can be used as energy storage units and transfer power to the grid. The electric vehicles charge at night to reduce the cost and the grid load, simultaneously to fill the valley. When grid load increases, electric vehicles' batteries discharge to the grid to improve the stability of the grid. As distributed storage units, electric vehicles are important components of the smart grid. In this paper, the three-phase PWM (pulse width modulation) rectifier used for smart charging and discharging system of electric vehicles are analyzed and designed. This paper includes the principle of PWM rectifier-inverter and direct current control strategy. Also, the SVPWM (space vector pulse width modulation) and system design of three-phase PWM rectifiers are analyzed. A 10 kW prototype is developed. Simulation and experiment results show that the three-phase PWM rectifiers reach the unit power factor. From the experimental results, PWM rectifier implements the sinusoidal grid current and achieves the unit power factor. 展开更多

The sinusoidal phase modulation technique was introduced into the fiber laser self-mixing interference measurement system to improve the measurement resolution. The phase could be demodulated by the Fourier analysis method. Error sources were evaluated in detail, and the system was experimentally applied to reconstruct the motion of a high-precision commercial piezoelectric ceramic transducer (PZT). The displacement measurement resolution was well beyond a half-wavelength. It provides a practical solution for displacement measurement based on all optical-fiber sensing applications with high precision. 展开更多

The multi-tap characteristics of the filter are realized by slicing a broadband source using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) which results in a high MSR of 25 dB. The tunability of the filter is realized by an optical variable delay line (OVDL) in one arm of the MZI, which changes the wavelength spacing of the sliced broadband source and results in a tunable free spectrum range (FSR) of the filter. The central frequency of the bandpass filter is tunable from 10.7 GHz to 27 GHz by changing the wavelength spacing from 0.145 nm to 0.054 nm. 展开更多
