The study is conducted to examine the differences of gender perception among educators who are teaching in local higher learning institutions in Malaysia, in viewing their roles as the '~teacher". Several higher learning institutions were randomly targeted. Several researchers were involved in the data collection by means of using questionnaires in the survey over a period of several weeks. The questionnaires were used to fred out about their academic and professional backgrounds, requiring them to list their roles pertinent to their experiences in teaching, ranked them and provided the rationale behind the choices made. Twenty-five samples were collected to scrutinize the data by categorizing the information according to gender and teaching experiences and recording the frequencies of answers. From the study, it is found that regardless of gender and teaching experiences, most participants would consider themselves as "Provider of knowledge", followed by "N^r", especially those who are relatively new in teaching. There is also an indication that teacher's experiences and gender might affect their perception in mirroring themselves. A larger scale of study is needed in validating the findings of this study for it to be empirical, thus promoting in-depth investigations in viewing whether gender and cultural background may be vital factors that has profound effects towards their professionalism. It is hoped that future studies will shed some light to this rather controversial claims. 展开更多

The main objective of this work was the construction of a Multidisciplinary Learning Object as a tool for teaching, enabling the use of information and communication technologies for use by teachers acting in elementary school, based on Discourse Analysis, Theory Cybernetic-systemic, the Multiple Intelligences and Collaborative Learning. All of them are informed by Foucault, Pecheux, Bakhtin, Gardner, Levy, and others. The theoretical contribution is justified to the extent that the student is above all a being inserted into a user company tool created by it over time, to act on the world. Theoretical principles underlying the construction of learning objects as tools for teaching are related to teaching and learning. The developed learning object establishes the link between the fields of pedagogy and usability, the step by step construction of each of them and their purposes, characteristics, and all detailed in the development of research. The construction of the learning object follows the steps of a methodological construction for the development of a computerized product, followed by a systematic planning and the design and construction. 展开更多

Lived Music Multi-dimensional Musical Experience: Implications for Music Education

Within the field of music education, there is a need of approaching the holistic view of musical experience from different angles. Therefore, the aim of this article is to investigate the phenomenon of multi-dimensional musical experience from a life-world-phenomenological perspective and indicate its benefits to music education. The analysis is informed by Dufrenne's philosophical writings regarding the phenomenology of aesthetic experience and also draws on Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger, interpreted by Benson and Ford, together with Schutz. These philosophers provide tools for understanding musical experience from a bodily, existential, and sociological perspective, and their complementary ideas about being and learning can be applied to musical experience in the first case and secondly its influences for music educational praxis. Firstly, the concept of lived music is defined through a discussion of dimensions of musical experience; the phenomenology of aesthetic experience; the use of several senses; the heard and the hear-able; apperception; and musical dwelling. Then, the sharing of experience in musical dwelling and its relevance to the concept of imagination is highlighted. I will also emphasize the importance of the view of human beings as holistic bodily subjects. Finally, the article includes a discussion regarding the implications of a life-world-phenomenological view of musical experience to music education. 展开更多

Philosophy in school, on the one hand, is a progressive discussion about our future educational system so that it can provide safe training about how philosophy can be performed and mixed in school classes and auditoriums. Therefore, philosophy for children explains that how each teacher in each subject is able to accept a model of philosophical search and adapt it to the class situation. Philosophy is much better understood if considered as a public activity and a conversation according to what Socrates did, than just considered as an education subject which should be inserted in child's memory. On the other hand, philosophical opening, questioning, and surprising toward the word--the characteristics which are undeniable, admirable, and comprehensive----can be remained superficial and even bare. Unless, it founts from Socrates' dialectic insight: "I know that I don't know." Philosophy for children is a program which involves them in every class discussion in the field of philosophical subjects. The aim of this program is the improvement of children though via introducing them numerous "Big Question" and enables them in considering these questions. Using this program, teachers encourage children to think more deeply on ideas about their schoolwork. This strategy mainly takes place in project community of classes. Children will deeply concentrate on their thoughts and skill and then improve them while considering and reinforcing their own and others' ideas in response to philosophical puzzles. Based on the system engineering context consisting of "Human, Machine and Environment", human factors at sea, i.e., those factors relevant to the seafarers, are consistently underlined. STCW convention is the unique but systematic international maritime legislation looking after the "professional competency standards" of seafarers. The amendment thereto is of great significance for the Maritime Education and Training (MET) systems, which should be fully understood so as to respond to it effectively.
