This paper uses three size metrics,which are collectable during the design phase,to analyze the potentially confounding effect of class size on the associations between object-oriented（OO）metrics and maintainability...This paper uses three size metrics,which are collectable during the design phase,to analyze the potentially confounding effect of class size on the associations between object-oriented（OO）metrics and maintainability.To draw as many general conclusions as possible,the confounding effect of class size is analyzed on 127 C＋＋ systems and 113 Java systems.For each OO metric,the indirect effect that represents the distortion of the association caused by class size and its variance for individual systems is first computed.Then,a statistical meta-analysis technique is used to compute the average indirect effect over all the systems and to determine if it is significantly different from zero.The experimental results show that the confounding effects of class size on the associations between OO metrics and maintainability generally exist,regardless of whatever size metric is used.Therefore,empirical studies validating OO metrics on maintainability should consider class size as a confounding variable.展开更多

S...In this paper, five national meteorological stations in Anhui province are taken as typical examples to explore the effects of local urbanization on their thermal environment by using Landsat data from 1990 to 2010. Satellite-based land use/land cover(LULC), land surface temperature(LST), normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) are used to investigate the effects. The study shows that LULC around meteorological stations changed significantly due to urban expansion. Fast urbanization is the main factor that affects the spatial-temporal distribution of thermal environment around meteorological stations. Moreover, the normalized LST and NDVI exhibit strong inverse correlations around meteorological stations, so the variability of LST can be monitored through evaluating the variability of NDVI. In addition, station-relocation plays an important role in improving representativeness of thermal environment. Notably, the environment representativeness was improved, but when using the data from the station to study climate change, the relocation-induced inhomogeneous data should be considered and adjusted. Consequently,controlling the scale and layout of the urban buildings and constructions around meteorological stations is an effective method to ameliorate observational thermal environment and to improve regional representativeness of station observation. The present work provides observational evidences that high resolution Landsat images can be used to evaluate the thermal environment of meteorological stations.展开更多

Using DSP can avoid the hea...This paper gives a practical schema for using DSP boards to construct Vehicle License Plate Recognition (VLPR) modules that could be embedded in any Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Using DSP can avoid the heavy investment in dedicated VLPR system and improve the computational power compared to PC software environment. Low cost, high computational power, and high flexibility of DSP provide the License Plate Recognition System (LPRS) an excellent cost-effective solution to execute the major part of the recognition tasks. This paper describes a successful implementation of VLPR system based on Texas Instruments (TI)'s TMS320DM642. The DSP board acquires video (which could be output to a monitor for surveillance) from a camera, captures images from the video, locates and recognizes the license plates in images, and then sends the recognized results and related images after compression to a host PC through the network. Finally, the overall software is optimized according to the features of DM642 chip. Experiments showed that the DSP VLPR system performs well on the local license plates, and that the processing speed and accuracy can meet the requirement of practical applications.展开更多

A novel working condition identification method based on the dual-tree complex wavelet transform(DTCWT) is proposed for process monitoring of zinc fast roughing.Three-level DTCWT is implemented to decompose the froth image into different directions and resolutions in advance, and then the energy parameter of each sub-image is extracted as the froth texture feature. Then, an improved random forest integrated classification(i RFIC) with 10-fold cross-validation model is introduced as the classifier to identify the roughing working condition, which effectively improves the shortcomings of the single model and overcomes the characteristic redundancy but achieves higher generalization performance. Extensive experiments have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.展开更多

Main challenge was to develop a mobile system capable of moving on various field surfaces, equipped with very reliable N20 gas analyser （Los Gatos Research Inc.）, electrically autonomous （with batteries） and enough robust to face up to field conditions. In this paper, we report the major features of this prototype studied during two field campaigns. The N20 flux IPNOA prototype was compared with other methodological implementations： first, during an INGOS （integrated non-CO2 greenhouse gas observing systems） campaign on a grazed grassland at Easter Bush （Scotland） by Eddy correlation method, and then after on an arable crop at Grignon （France） using automatic and manual chambers fitted with QC-TILDAS （Quantum Cascade Tunable Infrared Laser Differential Absorption Spectrometer, Aerodyne Research Inc.）, with the 46C model of thermo-instrument analyser or with a GC （gas chromatography） analysis.展开更多
