As an approach to developing the theory, an imaginary physical model called 'rigid body's kinematics model' has been creatively initiated to simulate the real physical phenomena of both image formation and image motion for reflecting prisms. Such a method of treatment has been successfully making the evolving theory more complete, more systematic, more generalized, and unique as well.展开更多

METHODS: Ninety-five patients underwent capsule endoscopy (CE) by easily swallowing the capsule. They were divided into three study groups according to the preparation used: group A (n = 26) by polyethylene glycol (PEG) liter or with sodium phosphate (SP) 12 h prior to the CE study; group B (n = 29) by erythromycin 1 h prior to the CE study; and group C (n = 40) without any preparation. Visualization ranged from good to satisfactory to poor. RESULTS: The gastric emptying time in the group prepared with erythromycin was shorter but without statistical significance and the small bowel transit time was unaffected. In elderly subjects prepared by PEG or SP, the gastric emptying time was significantly longer (163.7 rain, P = 0.05). The transit times of the three sub-groups were not affected by gender or pathology. The grade of cleaning of the entire study group was 3.27±1.1. The erythromycin group presented significantly the worst quality of images (P = 0.05) compared to the other sub-groups. Age, gender, and pathology had no effect on the quality of the cleaning of the small bowel in the sub-groups. One (1.05%) case had no natural excretion. CONCLUSION: Erythromycin markedly reduces gastric emptying time, but has a negative effect on the quality of the image in the small bowel. The preparation of elderly subjects with PEG or SP has a negative effect on the small bowel transit time.展开更多

The degree of inflammation as assessed by conventional colonoscopy is a reliable parameter of disease activity. However, even when conventional colonoscopy suggests remission and normal mucosal findings, microscopic abnormalities may persist, and relapse may occur later. Patients with long-standing, extensive ulcerative colitis have an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer. Ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal cancer is characterized by an early age at onset, poorly differentiated tumor cells, mucinous carcinoma, and multiple lesions. Early detection of dysplasia and colitic cancer is thus a prerequisite for survival. A relatively new method, magnifying chromoscopy, is thought to be useful for the early detection and diagnosis of dysplasia and colitic cancer, as well as the prediction of relapse.展开更多

Using examples of award-winning young authors--Bojan Krivokapic, Mirko Bozic, and Sima Majic, different types of so-called engaged poetry are indicated. This kind of poetry is used to subtly, critically, or in a very subversive way relate to the existing world, but also a new postmodern identity is formed through specific and carefully chosen poetic lexis, deprived of any kind of structure or limitation. The poetry of mentioned authors is used as a provisory example in order to indicate that post-war period (as well as postmodern time) changes the perception of identity, from nationally and politically oriented structure to individual and subversive, conventions-free comprehension of Oneself. Although the three authors are very different in style and expression, what brings them together is tendency to escape conventional and traditional cultural images in order to emphasize the importance of Being Different, but Equally Rightful.展开更多

Methods A prospective randomized double-masked comparative study was conducted in 180 eyes of 90 patients scheduled for LASIK, including 92 eyes of 46 patients with previous SCL wear. The patients were divided into four groups: no SCL-conventional group, SCL-conventional group, no SCL-wavefront group and SCL-wavefront group. Preoperative and postoperative examinations included uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), contrast sensitivity and HOAs. Results The UCVA and BSCVA were 20/20 in all patients at 6 months postoperatively. And 36.3%, 22.7%, 18.1% and 35.4% gained one line or more of BSCVA in no SCL-wavefront group, SCL-wavefront group, no SCL-conventional group and SCL-conventional group, respectively. Both the safety index and efficacy index surpassed one in 4 groups and were highest in no SCL-wavefront group. The increase in root-mean-square (RMS) values of HOAs was significantly lower in no SCL-wavefront group and higher in SCL-wavefront group. At 6 months postoperatively, the increase in RMS of HOAs (RMSh) were 0.67, 1.58, 1.17 and 1.28 in no SCL-wavefront group, SCL-wavefront group, no SCL-conventional group and SCL-conventional group, respectively. Conclusion Preoperative contact lens wear has significant influence on the efficacy of HOAs correction in wavefront-guided LASIK. Patients with contact lens wear preoperatively should be cautious when scheduled for wavefront-guided LASIK.展开更多
