Unlike some previous algorithms, which require pure horizontal camera panning, this algorithm doesn't require constraints on how the image is taken. The algorithm can determine the matching regions of the two adjacent images by finding out the feature points and can piece up images bath horizontally and vertically. Experimental results show that this algorithm is effective.展开更多

Archetypes are the images or patterns recurring again and again in literature through the ages. It also focuses on the minute difference between archetype and archetypal image as discussed by Jung with special reference to the characters and other images in the play beating relevance with the universal archetypes. This article also highlights the play as a connective link in the series of the different pieces of literature via the unique use of the psychic remnants. It emphasises on the different use of those remnants interwoven in the mosaic of the characters and plot of the play.展开更多

Nepal, with its multitude of forests, is one of the most forest fire-prone areas in the region. This study examines the possibility of averting forest fires, minimizing their frequency and the damage they cause, through advanced mapping of forest fire prone areas using a VHSR (very-high spatial resolution) satellite image of GeoEye-1, DEM (digital elevation data) created from topographic maps and additional data layers (e.g., precipitation, settlements). The study was conducted in Kayer Khola, Chitwan district, Nepal. The classification of the satellite image has been performed using OBIA (object-based image analysis) techniques taking into account spectral, spatial and context information as well as hierarchical properties. The land cover classification result was thereafter combined with additional data in ArcGIS, where the input layers were reclassified and all classes of the input layers ranked according to their proneness to forest fires. Fire prone areas were delineated in five classes ranging from very high to very low. The study revealed that 82% of fires occur in forest areas. This case study in Kayer Khola shows that OBIA and GIS modeling techniques can be used to successfully identify forest fire-prone areas. The mapping of forest fire-prone areas will enable forest departments in countries of the Himalayan region to delineate forest fire prone areas, which can guide the forest departments set up appropriate fire-fighting infrastructure in these areas and thus help, minimize or avert forest fires.展开更多

Firstly, this method tracked the video object based on motion history image, and obtained the co- ordinate-based track sequence and orientation-based track sequence of the video object. Then the pro- posed hidden markov model (HMM) based algorithm was used to analyze the behavior of video object with the track sequence as input. Experimental results on traffic object show that this method can achieve the statistics of a mass of traffic objects' behavior efficiently, can acquire the reasonable velocity behavior curve of traffic object, and can recognize traffic object' s various behaviors accurately. It provides a base for further research on video object behavior.展开更多

The total cost of intervention represents a suitable measure of the expected deterioration risk and its evolution obviously depends on the damage process which buildings are subjected to. That damage phenomena affecting masonry buildings pleased into an aggressive environment are suitably modelled by renewal processes: this happens both in the case of catastrophic events, or in the case of the so-called "natural aging", in which damage comes off gradually in time. In the hypothesis ofa Markovian renewal process (Mrp) describing the damage process, the total cost of all the future damage is evaluated taking into account both the damage aspects: damages due to catastrophic aspects and damages due to aggressive environment, supposing different maintenance and/or rehabilitation scenarios. A semi-Markov process (s-Mp) is defined to model the damage rehabilitation history of buildings in presence of seismic events, natural ageing and rehabilitation strategies. The expected rewards connected to the process are defined; they represent a significant measure of the risk.展开更多

The new difference scheme not only retains the advantage of good resolution of high wave number but also avoids the Gibbs phenomenon of the original upwind compact difference scheme. Compared with the classical 5th order WENO difference scheme, the new difference scheme is simpler and small in diffusion and computation load. By employing the component-wise and characteristic-wise methods, two forms of the new difference scheme are proposed to solve the N-S/Euler equation. Through the Sod problem, the Shu-Osher problem and tbe two-dimensional Double Mach Reflection problem, numerical solutions have demonstrated this new scheme does have a good resolution of high wave number and a robust ability of capturing shock waves, leading to a conclusion that the new difference scheme may be used to simulate complex flows containing shock waves.展开更多

We explore the images of Xun Zi as a great Confucian (大儒) that emerge from these texts, as well as their authors' motives for writing. These texts are understood within three contexts: first, the self-identification of a Confucian; second, the dispute between Confucianism and Daoism; and lastly, the distinction between the classics and the annals and biographies. Due to their different discourse environments, Xun Zi's great Confucian image project a different significance in each: in one, he is a model of action who can act in accordance with perfected morality; in another, he is a model of "private words," who can counter the philosophers of his day and become the teacher of kings; and finally, he is a model of "official learning," able to use his knowledge of the classics in practical statecraft and elucidate the kingly Way. Overall, these three texts represent three types of discourse on a great Confucian. At thesame time, they also exhibit their writers' consciousness of their times and their views of the genealogy of daotong, or transmission of the Way; hence their significance for intellectual history.展开更多
