Methods: After SPE column purification and liquid-l...A highly sensitive SPE-liquid/liquid extraction RPLC method has been developed for the analysis of 6β-hydroxycortisol and cortisol in the urine of cancer patients. Methods: After SPE column purification and liquid-liquid extraction, the sample test solutions were analyzed with RPLC using a C18 analytical column. This improved analytical method has been validated for linearity, accuracy (recovery from urine), repeatability (within-day and between-day precision), specificity, sensitivity, and stability. This SPE-liquid/liquid extraction-RPLC is rapid, simple, accurate and reproducible. The technique is particularly useful for monitoring the CYP3A activity of cancer patients in clinical settings. The results are expressed as the ratio of 6β-hydroxycortisol to cortisol. Results: The CYP3A activity from a total of 153 samples was measured using this improved method. Considerable variation in the CYP3A activity of different cancer patients has been documented. Thus, personalized medical treatment based on the individual metabolic enzyme activity level is necessary. Conclusion: This new analytical method facilitates such individualized medical treatments.展开更多

AHP (analytic hierarchy process) is a struc...The purpose of this study is to design a tool, adapted to students' individual contexts and to enable students to reflect on their understanding of media characteristics. AHP (analytic hierarchy process) is a structured technique for organizing and analyzing complex decisions. Using AHP, students have to define appropriate criteria and priorities for using media. It is expected that students" understanding of the characteristics of different types of media will emerge through reflection. Seventy two university students took part in this research. They were asked to prioritize their ways.of obtaining information about current affairs using sets of media such as TV, books, newspapers and web pages, Twitter and Facebook. AHP enables us to visualize a "real" understanding of media characteristics and students can reflect on that basis. As far as "information sources and media" is concerned, a few students indicated that it was the information source itself that was important rather than the type of media. Our tool fulfils the role of encouraging this type of reflection.展开更多

An apparatus based on supercritical fluid chromatography was established and the experiments were performed at temperatures of 298.15-318.15 K and pressures of 7.5-17.8 MPa. The two methods have been compared. The results show that for the systems studied here the moment method can give reasonable values for both adsorption equilibrium constant and mass transfer properties, but the time-domain analysis only can obtain the adsorption equilibrium constant. The dependence of adsorption equilibrium constant and mass transfer properties on temperature and pressure was investigated.展开更多

In this study, the amorphous forms of ketoprofen and flurbiprofen were obtai...Formulation of poorly water-soluble crystalline drugs in their amorphous counterpart is a common approach to enhance their biodisponibility. In this study, the amorphous forms of ketoprofen and flurbiprofen were obtained by supercooling of the melt in a DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) apparatus and then investigated, especially under the stability point of view. The average rate of molecular motions at any given temperature is probably the most important parameter to know for amorphous pharmaceutical materials, and it was used to explain and predict the stability of ketoprofen and flurbiprofen. A quantitative estimate of the product's behaviour upon storage is obtained with additional data, such as the heat capacity of crystalline and amorphous samples and the distribution of molecular relaxation times. Amorphous flurbiprofen demonstrated greater physical stability at any aging temperature tested, when compared to ketoprofen and a different dependence from aging temperature. When evaluating Nuclear Waste DGR Safety, it is necessary to confirm its safety in a long run and above all its safety towards the biosphere which is more precisely that the biosphere will not be in any hazard caused ...When evaluating Nuclear Waste DGR Safety, it is necessary to confirm its safety in a long run and above all its safety towards the biosphere which is more precisely that the biosphere will not be in any hazard caused by radioactive substances, With the aid of geologists, a model of a hypothetical area was elaborated and described with the use of geological and hydrogeological parameters. The volume of isotopes released out of the massif at the borderline of the near/far field from the DGR was determined. The paper results showed that ground water flow and transport of substances within the area were first to be determined. The Flow123D SW was used for the determination. The resulting outcome represents a determination of transported substances concentration depending on time. The disadvantage of the model is the fact that all the input parameters were set deterministically. The problem is solved by using the sensitivity analysis (changing the input parameters) or using the Monte Carlo Method. The major results are: calculations of the radionuclide concentrations in the elements depending on time and determination of parameters that have the biggest impact on the sensitivity of the whole model.展开更多
