The relationship among the lignite quality parameters has been investigated using a response method that is the logistic regression method. The analysis determines the effect of multiple predictor variables such as moisture, ash and sulphur presented simultaneously to predict membership of the two calorific value categories. By this way, a reliable binary response regression structure was constructed considering all the lignite fields in Turkey. Both the experiments on identifying the influential measurements and the measure of goodness of fit indicated that the overall model has a big capability to exhibit the relationship among the parameters of the Turkish lignite.展开更多

The following indexes were discussed such as organic indexes (TOC, CODM,, BOD, COD), nutrient salts (TN, NH4^+, NO3, NO,, Kjeldahl Nitrogen, TP, PO4^3- ), etc. It is shown that water quality of the mining subsidence lake during the initial stage ( 2 years to 7 years) can stay relatively stable with a fluctuation during different quarters in a year, which can reach class Ill or IV of the Surthcc Water Environmental Quality Standard.展开更多

Exp. 1: The effect of cecal ligation on nitrogen utilization and excretion was investigated in chickens fed 5% to 14% protein diet. Irrespective of dietary protein level and different protein sources, the ligation of cecal decreased uric acid excretion and tended to increase nitrogen utilization and balance with the exception of urea-added 10% protein diet. Exp. 2: The effect of cecal ligation on nitrogen utilization and excretion was investigated in conventional and colostomized chickens fed a 5% protein diet or 5% protein diet plus urea. Total nitrogen excretion and uric acid excretion increased by colostomy were depressed by cecal ligation in chickens. Therefore, nitrogen utilization and balance decreased by colostomy were increased by cecal ligation. Urinary nitrogen excretion was significantly decreased by cecal ligation in colostomized chickens, but the cecal ligation did not change fecal nitrogen excretion in chickens fed either diet. Exp. 3: This experiment was carried out to examine the effects of removal of cecal contents on nitrogen utilization, balance and nitrogen excretion in cecally ligated chickens. Total nitrogen excretion was significantly decreased by washing out the cecal contents with saline or antibiotics. The cecal ligation and the removal of cecal contents significantly decreased uric acid excretion in the excreta. There was a highly inverse relationship between microbial counts in the ceca and an excretory amount of uric acid. Exp. 4: In order to examine effects of cecal ligation on microbial activity, microbes were counted and products of microbial fermentation were determined. The ligation of caeca decreased microbial counts, concentrations of acetic, propionic and butyric acids and ammonia concentration of cecal contents. These results suggest that nitrogen metabolism in chickens is affected by possible changes in cecal fermentation caused by preventing the substances from urine and digesta from entering into the ceca.展开更多

The aim was to incorporate Guazuma leaves (Guazuma ulmifolia) in the diet of growing calves and evaluate its effect on weight gain. Twenty-four Cebu × Swiss calves (approximately live weight 250 kg) were used during all the experimental period (64 d). They were assigned to a completely randomized design under two treatments (n = 12 for each treatment): control (T1) consisted of commercial feed based on 15% crude protein (CP) + cut Taiwan grass and the treatment (T2) consisted of a formulated diet containing 14.7% CP including Guazuma. The composition of the formulated diet consisted of: Guazuma (60%), rolled corn (12%), ground sorghum (9%), oats in grain (7%), wheat bran (9%) and vitamins and minerals. The feed was offered twice a day at a rate of 3% of live weight for 64 d. The mean daily gain for T1 and T2 was 1.15 g/animal and 1.52 g/animal, respectively (p 〈 0.05). Results indicate that Guazuma-based supplements resulted in greater productive yield in growing calves.展开更多

Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is grown world-wide as a protein source for food and feed. The importance of nutzients (micro and macro) for human growth is universally recognized. An investigation was camed out to select the most successful faba bean genotypes to estimate for seed yield and some of agro-morphological traits. Effective interpretation of the dataon breeding programes is important at all stages of plant improvment. The GT (genotype by trait) was used for two-way faba bean genotypes with multiple traits. For this purpose, six faba bean genotypes with specific components were tested and the GT biplot for genotype data explained 83% of total variation of the standardized data. The polygon view of GT presented for five traits of faba bean genotypes showed three vertex genotypes as Goryaka, Karcacaoglan and Seher. Genotype G0ryaka had the highest values for most of the traits. It was demonstzaited that the selection of high seed yield will be via hundred seed weight and planth height. These traits should be considered meanwhile as effective selection criteria developing high yielding faba bean genotypes because of their large contibution to grain yield. The genotypes Goryaka and Karacaoglan could be well-considered for improving of desirable candidate in selection of improvement studies.展开更多
