Forest disturbance plays a vital role in modulating carbon storage,biodiversity and climate change.Yearly Landsat imagery from 1986 to 2015 of a typical plantation region in the northern Guangdong province of southern...Forest disturbance plays a vital role in modulating carbon storage,biodiversity and climate change.Yearly Landsat imagery from 1986 to 2015 of a typical plantation region in the northern Guangdong province of southern China was used as a case study.A Landsat time series stack(LTSS) was fed to the vegetation change tracker model(VCT) to map long-term changes in plantation forests' disturbance and recovery,followed by an intensive validation and a continuous 27-yr change analysis on disturbance locations,magnitudes and rates of plantations' disturbance and recovery.And the validation results of the disturbance year maps derived from five randomly identified sample plots with 25 km^2 located at the four corners and the center of the scene showed the majority of the spatial agreement measures ranged from 60% to 83%.A confusion matrix summary of the accuracy measures for all four validation sites in Fogang County showed that the disturbance year maps had an overall accuracy estimate of 71.70%.Forest disturbance rates' change trend was characterized by a decline first,followed by an increase,then giving way to a decline again.An undulated and gentle decreasing trend of disturbance rates from the highest value of 3.95% to the lowest value of 0.76% occurred between 1988 and 2001,disturbance rate of 4.51% in 1994 was a notable anomaly,while after 2001 there was a sharp ascending change,forest disturbance rate spiked in 2007(5.84%).After that,there was a significant decreasing trend up to the lowest value of 1.96% in 2011 and a slight ascending trend from 2011 to 2015(2.59%).Two obvious spikes in post-disturbance recovery rates occurred in 1995(0.26%) and 2008(0.41%).Overall,forest recovery rates were lower than forest disturbance rates.Moreover,forest disturbance and recovery detection based on VCT and the Landsat-based detections of trends in disturbance and recovery(LandT rendr) algorithms in Fogang County have been conducted,with LandT rendr finding mostly much more disturbance than VCT.Overall,disturbances and recoveries in northern Guangdong were triggered mostly by timber needs,policies and decisions of the local governments.This study highlights that a better understanding about plantations' changes would provide a critical foundation for local forest management decisions in the southern China.展开更多
Snowmelt is an important component of any snow-fed river system.The Jhelum River is one such transnational mountain river flowing through India and Pakistan.The basin is minimally glacierized and its discharge is larg...Snowmelt is an important component of any snow-fed river system.The Jhelum River is one such transnational mountain river flowing through India and Pakistan.The basin is minimally glacierized and its discharge is largely governed by seasonal snow cover and snowmelt.Therefore,accurate estimation of seasonal snow cover dynamics and snowmeltinduced runoff is important for sustainable water resource management in the region.The present study looks into spatio-temporal variations of snow cover for past decade and stream flow simulation in the Jhelum River basin.Snow cover extent(SCE) was estimated using MODIS(Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) sensor imageries.Normalized Difference Snow Index(NDSI) algorithm was used to generate multi-temporal time series snow cover maps.The results indicate large variation in snow cover distribution pattern and decreasing trend in different sub-basins of the Jhelum River.The relationship between SCE-temperature,SCE-discharge and discharge-precipitation was analyzed for different seasons and shows strong correlation.For streamflow simulation of the entire Jhelum basin Snow melt Runoff Model(SRM) used.A good correlation was observed between simulated stream flow and in-situ discharge.The monthly discharge contribution from different sub-basins to the total discharge of the Jhelum River was estimated using a modified version of runoff model based on temperature-index approach developed for small watersheds.Stream power - an indicator of the erosive capability of streams was also calculated for different sub-basins.展开更多

The impact of human activities on marine bacteria was primarily studied and characteristics of bacteria communities ...Bacterial diversity of 14 sites of the East China Sea was investigated by culture-dependent methods. The impact of human activities on marine bacteria was primarily studied and characteristics of bacteria communities in different areas were analyzed. A total of 396 strains were obtained. These strains belong to 4 phyla, 9 classes and 146 species according to 16S rDNA sequences alignment. For 32 strains, the 16S rDNA sequences similarities between isolated strains and their most closely related species were lower than 98%. The result indicated that there are abundant microbial diversity and a large number of unknown microbial resources in the East China Sea. Isolated strains were dominated byy-proteobacteria (64%), ct-proteobacteria (18%) and Firmicutes (15%). Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes were less than 3%. Microbial community composition, diversity and abundance among areas with varies distances from land were different. The far the regions from the land, the lower the Shannon index (H') and the Margalef index (DMg) values were.展开更多
Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) always is grown for using its flowers in nutrient industry, color industry and healthy compounds due to its flowers and specially stigmas. Because of its expensive flowers, surveying and ...Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) always is grown for using its flowers in nutrient industry, color industry and healthy compounds due to its flowers and specially stigmas. Because of its expensive flowers, surveying and recognizing on effective genes for flowering is very important and its results can help us to control rate and timing of flowering at an early stage of flowering. The gene and gene state meant Pistillata like MADS box (PIC2) were surveyed for recognizing its molecular mechanism. The molecular sequence at the genes has high similarity to members of family MADS that is a factor for controls of protein at flowering stage. PIC2 gene was studied by bioinforrnatics resources. Primers were designed for replicating the gene and DNA and RNA were extracted from saffron's leaves. The gene's eDNA was built by recopying enzyme and used such a pattern for replicating gene PIC2 at polymerase chain reactions (PCR). Segments were replicated such 900 eDNA pair-nucleotides and a segment such 2,100 of DNA's pair-nucleotides. The gene codes a protein that was composed of 210 amino acids that has MADS sequence box. Analysis of protein's molecular structure and homological modeling of the protein indicated that it has a regular structure.展开更多
